Ahh yes Thrasherland i was always out there for thursday night practice. In the mid 70's there was an abandoned trailer park right across glendale ave from where TL would one day be. Was a big riding area, several ridden in tracks dotted the landscape and the old concrete pads where the mobile homes sat made a nice pit area.

Don't forget Nomads in Sierra Vista!  😁   Yeah, it's "rough and ready" sometimes..  haha  But it could really be something good if we had the membership/money.   The problem is people want something good first.  I am hoping we get there someday.  In the meantime, we try to do what we can to keep it going.  Lucky as heck to have a club track like this.

Looks prime time! I would definitely support this if I was in the area. Hoping the best for you AZ bros. Is it only open in the winter?

Open year round.  We are high dez at 4500ft so generally about 15-20 degrees cooler than the ridonkulous temps you see in Phoenix.   Dirt is a mix of orange clay, sand, and DG so it takes water very well and our best riding is during the monsoon season when the other tracks get flooded out.

I just followed the track on Instagram, I’m on the NM/TX border. Moto scene is quite rough here, I drive to AZ, California and Dallas/Houston/SA to put in good laps.

I hope to make it out whenever you are open next!

Cool, thanks.  We've had a few people from that area over before.   Right now we are tentatively targeting  Nov 17th to do a public ride day.  Updates will be posted on the IG page.

I need to get on and find the page asap! I’m out in Scottsdale from upstate wester ny. I would love to know if a local race to drive two hours to. Set up. Camp out. Meet people and then watch motos the next day then drive home.

Drove out to Speedworld today since I don't live too far from it. Haven't been out there in probably 14+ years. Sad to see it so dilapidated. Not much left, but the front step up and the big tabletop in the back still remain.

That's sad. Seems like there's a lot of good infrastructure leftover at these abandoned tracks that could still be used if someone put the effort in to reopen vs starting from scratch. Even getting one old track back would awesome for you guys. Someone make it happen!

The problem is a large percentage of our tracks that have closed are now basically neighborhoods. Phoenix has expanded so much and what used to be in the middle of the nowhere is now neighborhoods. Speedworld is not far off from being devoured by the big home builders. Glad I got out there...it probably will cease to exist within a few years. ET is the same way. Used to be in the boonies. Now there are neighborhoods right next door. Motoland and ACP have survived (at least to some extent) due to the fact they are still way out there. Because of ACP's location they will probably never have to worry about neighborhoods encroaching.

Speaking of the infrastructure...Speedworld got in trouble and shut down due to building infrastructure without permits. So stupid how the county just bends these track owners over a barrel.

ACP is probably safe from neighborhoods, because most builders don't want to build next to a prison...

A prison, with the added bonus of a major (City of Phoenix) landfill just across the highway....

Actually probably the best case scenario for long term viability of any MX track- a prison and landfill are not good neighbors for residential but a great fit for MX track isolation. I guess Bobby White planned that right when he made the deal for ACP. Perfect neighbors.

I get it. That's an issue happening to motorsports parks worldwide unfortunately. The influx of people from CA moving to AZ doesn't help your guys' situation either. I see there's a new housing development right next to the old Speedworld site. I would buy a house in that neighborhood tomorrow if the track reopened and was as good as it looked in its prime.

Yea I am very close to Speedworld (hard to believe as I remember driving out to Speedworld as a kid and thinking how far out it was). Half my neighborhood is Californian's

And if you're like me and drive in from the south, you get to hold your breath and darn near pass out from the smell of the cattle operation on Hwy 85... haaa

Until Waste Management's landfill has no more room and there is an existing massive hole in the ground across the highway, and WM offers Bobby $25M for his land.........That's probably the biggest threat to close ACP down.  I think both ACP and Motoland are safe for the next 10 years.  Beyond that, who knows.  Both tracks are doing really well financially, thankfully.

Nomads is a nice track raced there a few times in the 90's. I have a private track other end of the state 4600 ft same orange clay and sand mix. My best riding is fall and spring. Monsoons have been pretty weak the past few years here so summers i work on the track.

Too far to attract any Phx riders 2 hour+ drive but get a lot of riders from Lake Havasu and a few from Prescott.

Pretty strong rumors that grinding stone is opening again in October. I’ll believe it when I see it though. Cost of property and the population growth in AZ makes it difficult to put the money into a new place. Verde has no chance of opening again unless the owner sells the property which he hasn’t been willing to so far. Canyon is on state trust land and the lease was not renewed and the state has no plans to open it for rent again.

Can you let the cat out of the bag on where you heard this rumor? 😲

And what about the percentage of this being true and really happening?

Grinding Stone was one of my favorite tracks and about 15 minutes away. Sheeesh, I might break the 06 CRF450 out and ride moto again for the first time in about 15 years!

Rumors probably came from AEO and the percentage of it being true and really happening are at about 98%.  "Maybe" a December opening.  Stay tuned....

Ever been to Chino, CA? The prison is surrounded by residential and strip malls.

The Grindingstone deal really sucks.  It seems like a reopening gets teased every few years, but I thought this one might actually happen.

Grinding stone is such a cool track. It's so unique and would be a nice change. Sucks they couldn't come to a deal over fkn water. Giant data centers using billions of gallons are fine though!

I lived in Gilbert from 1976 - 80. Mostly rode for fun out in the desert but raced at Canyon Raceway a few times a year. Raced at night there during the hot months. Lights were pretty sketchy. They had good turnouts back then. I remember they had a race in like October called the Bosch Classic. It was really big. A lot of good guys would come for that. They even had a National there I think in 1979. I. missed that one for some reason I don't remember.

First time I rode there was back in 1976. I was still on my 73 Suzuki TM250 at the time. I got the 76 RM250 and stepped up to the long travel bikes finally in 1977. How about the bike transport? 1969 Camaro with bumper racks. I was styling.
