I do think Steve comparing Eli to what Deegan did is a reach. But Eli definitely would not have minded if he caused Dungey to tip over. Maybe it wasn’t the sole intention but could have easily been a result regardless. Eli is obviously just not a fan of Steve lately. I don’t even think he fully believes what he’s saying, he just wants to prove Steve wrong.
I take it more as giving Steve 💩, but maybe I’m not reading enough into it

I see no problem with it but Eli’s tweets just don’t make sense. Like, he’s saying he doesn’t regret what he did to Dunge because it was $2m on the line, but the ends don’t justify the means to me. If he did take Dungey out, he still wouldn’t have given a fuck. Nobody in their right mind believes he would have.
He tried like twice to bump him off the track. Not a full blown takeout like Deegan was doing, over and over. Similar concept, but one was mild, the other was not.
How can anyone not love the guy.

If, if, if.....only thing relevant, Deegan did a take out on Jo, and injured himself. Trying to compare anything in the past that did not result in a take out and injury is a reach for content and try to make something out of nothing for views.

I'm not saying I wouldn't, or that I blame him for doing so. I'm saying it's a reasonable take to call it out for being gimmicky and lame. Tomac tweets... OMG HE OWNED STEVE!
As a fan, I want to see good hard racing for the win. Tomac's wasn't nearly as egregious as what Deegan did, but it's definitely in the same vein. At least Deegan's was in a three race series where he had it taken away from him by another rider and he otherwise dominated (I dislike Deegan, and he deserved it imo).

He is just amusing himself and poking fun at Steve. This is light hearted banter, and it totally works because Eli mostly keeps to himself, thus it is more funny.
I could see Eli sitting in the co-host chair next year during one of Steves Monday shows for sure. Show 500? That's too far off, we need Eli in studio before that. 😁

I actually rewatched this race last night to see if it was comparable to Lil Deegz.
Tomac did bump him twice. But both times Dung just didn't know how to defend. Like the outcome was bigger than the move. So I don't think it is comparable. The little bumps Tomac did, if made on Shimoda we won't be talking about it. But I am not sure why Dung was effected so much.
The first one early he ended up having to reverse down the berm. But he didn't need to turn right like that...
I am not sure you can't compare the two.
I read Deegans statement and like the race it made no sense. Tomac was trying to effect one guy. Deegan seemed to only want Jo not to win it. No problem with Seth winning it. But than all the goon riding into kitch and seth. Obviously the rest with shimoda. Its been days and a couple rewatchs later. I still have no idea what Deegan's goal was.

Sorry if I'm missing it here, but is the Eli and Mathes beef an inside joke between the two of them? I thought they were buddies? It has been a while since I listened to Pulp but Eli used to be on the show and they seemed cool with each other.
Hard to tell if the context of this is playful but it seems not. I know folks love Eli and I’ve become a fan but I did not like when he tried to stand dungey up. He had all season to beat the dude heads up and didn’t have the points lead. Heads up racing is better and classier for all of us.
Deegan got taken out by kitchen and made Jo his punching bag for it.
Both are classless moves but the Deegan one was 10/10 wack and Eli was 6/10 wack. Doesn’t mean either were respectable. Oddly enough in both situations you have 2 of the nicest guys ever in our sport on the receiving end.
