I finally saw the last race last night. When the dust cleared and Hunter didn't win the title, he looked gutted. Basically upset with Jett it seemed to me. Jett really didn't need to win this SMX title and Hunter wanted it bad. I just sense some bad vibes there. Jett didn't even seem happy he won...almost like he fely guilty for taking away from Hunter. Just an all around strange atmosphere with Jett and Hunter after the second 450 moto.
Hunter was a little under the weather they said. If he had held Eli off in the first moto, he would have won the title. Jett even seemed gutted for his brother.
I think he would be more upset if Jett took a dive. Nothing in this world is a given, if the win is there, you take it. They both know that.
I agree , but do you honestly think hunter would be happier knowing that Jett held back and let him win? I sure wouldn't be
Jett was clearly going for the win at the end. Maybe trying to push Hunter, maybe not. But, something seemed off. Nobody was happy. Not every race needs to be balls out. I think Hunter was hoping Eli could hold off Jett or Jett wb ok finishing third. When Jett got by, he started going after Hunter and clearly closing the gap at the end it seemed. I'm not sure all is well in Lawrence land.

2nd place pays good also. Props to Hunter for really stepping it up this year.
Every championship should be earned and not deserved.
I think he was upset with the situation, not with Jett. He doesn't want a gift from Jett, but he probably tired of being second (as good as that may be given Jett's performances).
It was definitely an odd victory "celebration".
So what your saying is that he would have felt better about getting second if Tomac had beat him?
Hunter seems to be a very grounded individual. I’m sure he is more than aware that had he held Tomac off in the first moto, and the second moto results could’ve remained the same, he would have won. I also don’t think he would be happy if Jett “handed” him a win. The boys are racers, and racers race.
With that said, with him being sick and getting beaten by his brother, I’m sure it sucks to a degree but I bet when they get to training for MXdN it’s business as usual.
Not that I get the vibe from this thread but it seems like people want these two to hate each other. I just don’t see that happening. I feel for Hunter, if the alien that is Jett didn’t exist he’d probably be a champion. But would he be as good as he is without Jett? And vise versa?
Hunter has GT3 RS money, he’ll be just fine.
Hunta was probably pissed at the moment as a competitor. If he wasn't I'd be more concerned with his drive to win. You have to have that kind of passion to ride at their level.
Kinda bugged me that Tomac and Hunter were both putting in great rides and we just saw Jett on the screen in 3rd for 1/4 of the race.
Hunter knows he has no reason whatsoever to be unhappy with Jett.
And last year aswell
The second moto seemed to be Jett struggling with the decision to let Hunter win or not. He clearly had the speed to run everyone down but was sitting 4 seconds behind Tomac for much of the moto.
I think in the end he realized that it wasn't in the spirit of honor or competition to let his brother win. Im not sure what the best decision is, but if my brother let me win I wouldn't feel that was right. I think Jett was in a lose/lose position in terms of his emotions, but he was the best rider that day and all season even despite his knee injury. I think the decision he made was the right one even if it hurts.
What a pussification. Jett shouldn’t win boohoo.
It was like watching the end of Warrior, Tommy vs Brenden, brothers had to fight, the older brother didnt want to win but needed the 5 million dollars, Jett did the right thing, no matter how hard it hurt :beerscheers:
I just have never seen a team with a rider that just won a championship, his teammate get second in the championship and it looked like both ended 10th and 11th. I still think Hunter's only thought was...really, you just HAD to pass Tomac??? Seriously?? You cost me $500k. And Jett was like...why did I pass Tomac...why. Nobody seemed happy at all.
To me, that's what it seemed to be.
Hunter is rightfully upset with himself. This needs to stop lol. Jett is never going to hand him anything and Hunter would be pissed if he did.
For real. All these posts about about the Deegan situation and racer's just want to win no matter what, everyone is soft, I'd park my grandma for $500K. But we think a racer at Hunter's level wants his brother to let him win? Not a chance in hell
Pit Row
Jett was really upset under the tent behind the podium. You can see on the broadcast his GF was doing her best to console him.
Hunter knows that Jet is earning all these titles. Hunter is happy for his brothers success. Hunter is partly responsible for Jetts success as Jett is a big part of Hunters new found speed.
Not only regular people but some of the media do their best to try to create some false rivalry between them.
”Will Hunter take Jett out for the SMX win” etc. It’s just classless behavior from both the fans and the media that refuse to acknowledge that they will always be brothers and the racing part will come second hand.
Regarding that Hunter would be a champion if Jett not existed, who knows? I never believed in that if you just removed the best guy the rest of the standings would look the same.
Often when the best guy goes out, some other riders realize that it could be their time to shine and rises to the top, like Cooper Webb for example.
I think Hunter was more composed than Jett. Jett had empathy for beating his brother yet again, but Hunter didn't need it.
FWIW, I think Hunter would not be as fast without his brother to chase during the week.
This is what is right with the Lawrence family. Imagine how gutted Hunter would have been if Jett laid up on national TV, this forum would have blown up calling it a farce and ruining the sport.
Jett was genuinely sad for his brother, they were open and honest with the media.
The real MVPs are their parents, raising two strong athletes under one roof and keeping the train on the tracks somehow.
Do you not think the rest of the top five/ ten feel the same as Hunter? Wonder how many have a jet doll to stick pins in.
I hope they all use this as motivation to come back and try and be that tick faster next year, at that level the tiny differences end up making a massive difference
The relationship between those two isn't like anything they have with the rest of the competition. "If not me then you" is the vibe I get. Jett seems to understand that Hunter is the reason he's as good as he is. The Dynamic Duo.
The only problem with that is Jett is still getting faster.
Who waits till 2 laps to go and 4 seconds down then says, yeah I better go pass Eli freaking Tomac!
I am sure Hunter is a big part of Jett's success. But, you gotta feel for the guy. I mean, he'd be a multi time champ most likely if it weren't for his brother. Maybe this is best case scenario for him or for both, IDK. But, he looked like...WTF do I have to do just to get ONE frigging little big bike title. I mean, he has everyone covered it seems...except Jett.
That's what I'm saying! Dude just decides to turn it on and eats up chunks of time like its nothing. Amd yes, he's getting better.
Why would Hunter be upset with anyone? If he wants to win, ride faster. Should any rider feed him a win? Should his brother feel bad that Hunter is slower? It's nobody's fault that Hunter didn't do better than Hunter didn't do better.
TM
And who should Hunter be mad at in the series where Jett didn't compete? Hunter might be disappointed in himself but mad at Jett? Highly doubt it.
