Yeah looking back continuously to gauge where his competition is solely to take them out is bull$hit
And then acting on it repeatedly !
I agree with dv934. There were numerous times in full view, 3 I believe. The AMA’s call like always was weak, very weak. Back when I was with TwoTwo, sure Chad was my main focus. At 1 race, Canard was literally riding like a spaz. Chad got caught up in it as it was directly affecting him. Chad retaliated & was Black Flagged.Sure we argued it out with at the time the FIM as it was a SX, but in reality it was a fair call. Deegan’s deal was 3 times. Stevie Wonder would’ve seen the other 2 coming. The AMA should’ve thrown him a Black Flag. Their 5 points deal is a joke. Seems some things never change. For as much as Deegan looked foolish the AMA once again did too.
Yes, Deegan should have been black flagged!
Chad should NOT have been black flagged. Canard was riding like a pinball goon that night.

And had his girly little ass kicked!
There’s no question he should have been black flagged. He wasn’t racing. He was trying to wreck his opponent.
If anything even just to save him from further embarrassment.
Yes, because:
1. Multiple dangerous attempts with clear intent
2. Slowing down deliberately, which is now clearly against the rules
3. If Deegan was successful in taking out Shimoda, he would have tried to then take out Hammaker for the title.
There is no good outcome for the sport otherwise, unless Deegan isn't successful at takeouts and hurts himself first.
He would be champion if he was successful at both takeouts.
I find it hard to believe that Cooksey loved Deegan's antics - here's what he said:
- One of the coolest things I've ever seen
- Deegan is a gift to the sport
- What he did out there was amazing
- This is what I've been asking and wishing for to take this sport to the next level
- This is what the sport needs

I don't understand why the AMA didn't DQ him, especially since he was already on probation. Giving him a 5 point penalty is barely a slap on the wrist, and certainly won't discourage such behavior moving forward.
People wonder why dirt bike racing isn’t taken seriously. Imagine a F1 or MotoGP rider trying that 😂🤦🏻♂️
In case you thought I was making shit up.
It would have been very interesting to see what would have happened had he succeeded in parking Joe in the last altercation and went on to technically win the championship . I don’t think there a chance in hell they give it to him due shit storm that would follow.
That assumes he would have respected the black flag. Seems unlikely to me.
If the AMA had black flagged him team USA would still have a 250 rider for the nations.
Indeed, very good argument. The kid thinks he's one of the world wonders because he can ride a dirt bike. He's lucky that his dad made big bucks with FMX in that sports hay-day and that he created his own brand. I've also heard rumors that Brian bought a big stock package from Monster Beverage Corporation.
If Brian Deegan started to invest in 2002/2003 in Hansen Natural (Previous name for Monster Beverage Corporation) after tasting and seeing the potential in the new product: Monster Energy (launched in 2002) it would explain their good relationship. Being an 'early' investor and it would also explain their enormous wealth (Stock price was under 0.50$ till the end of 2005 and we all know that it is now +/-65$ that is 13000% profit. Because I don't see the same big ass houses at Travis, who've done more sports at high level then only FMX and has also a part in the Nitro Circus brand.)
Anyone who knows something about that rumor?
The thing that makes me question the AMA’s actions (inaction) most, is that this was all very predictable.
Surely the AMA race officials had to have met and discussed the likely scenarios pre-race? And had a plan on how they’d manage it?
As the delegated officials at any professional event would, right???
Pit Row
AMA is still a joke and always will be
The right answer is of course he should've gotten the black flag.
Im kinda worried that the current people at AMA has completely lost the track. It seems like they have a mission to make everything black and white so that they don't have to judge anything and can always point to a really barebones penalty table in the rule book during the aftermath.
It's insane that they have one row that is called Aggressive/reckless riding and put everything from a misjudged blockpass to the most extreme dangerous shenanigans that we saw by Deegan. And just think about the scenario if Deegan wouldn't have had an warning earlier this season? He would've gotten a written warning for his riding and nothing more.

This to me is really, really worrying. And definitely not good enough for a multi-million dollar series like Pro MX and SX.
I would love to see a rule similar to F1 about double defensive moves. You can move to block the inside to defend but then can't swerve out when the opponent switches to the outside without penalty. If enforced with 1st offense = warning, 2nd = event place penalty or ride through, 3rd = Black flag, I think it prevents the scenario we watched from ever happening.
If they're not going to throw the black flag for that then why even have it.
Would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall in race control when they were discussing whether or not to throw the black flag on the series title sponsor’s #1 rider.
Is it ridiculous to think star may not have been stoked on this at some level? Or are they pumped??
I fully support trying to rattle Jo once or maybe even twice, but he was absolutely too blatant and did it too many times, he definitely should have seen the black flag.
Everyone keeps comparing Deegs moves to what Tomac did in 2017. I just went back and watched because I felt like I didn’t remember it being that bad, and it is not even close to the same thing.
These teams pay a lot of money to have these riders on the track, someone out there playing moto demolition derby is utter bullshit.
It seriously turned out the best way it could have with Deegan hurt from his own idiotic riding but if it had caused a serious injury (he did receive a leg injury) to Jo it would have been a HUGE shit show the like of which this sport has never seen.
The black flag should have been thrown and the AMA and Deegan got off easy. Deegan should have paid a much higher penalty.
Biggest shame of it is he was HAMMERING in moto 1 to make up for the crash which has been forgotten already. Clearly the kid has the talent and drive but douchebag shit like this will be his legacy.
I'm anxiously waiting on Yogi's explanation of this on Pulp tonight...
I was disappointed that Thor made the Metal Melish gear. Shows they knew he was going all demo derby. I always said if guys would race him hard he would implode.
