It is nice that he came out and said that, but it is still possible to dislike the man.

Not to the point that i would wish harm on him or those that share his views.

Fair point. Likability is highly subjective.

Trump said a minister who is involved with law enforcement spoke with Robinson's dad and was able to turn him in to the police."

So it's being reported this guy told his dad he did it and his dad turned him in. If that's true good for the dad, tough decision but the right thing to do. Big contrast to the parents of the guy that killed Gabby Pettito.

Dad was a sheriff's deputy.... probably knows the only way his kid isn't executed is with plea and cooperation.

One of the things, and it got played out here, is that a certain segment of the population has stated that it is acceptable to use violence against those they disagree with.

https://ocpathink.org/post/independent-journalism/kirks-death-comes-as-more-college-students-support-violence-over-speech

"...The survey of 68,510 college students at 257 universities nationwide found that 34 percent now say using violence to stop someone from speaking on campus is acceptable, at least in rare cases. That is an increase of 10 percentage points over the last four years..."

If you accept that words are violence, then retaliating with actual violence becomes justified.  That's where we're at. Need to get back to sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me so this kind of actual violence is never considered justified.

Probably not a secret based on my presence on here that I enjoy a good debate, being challenged, arguing, learning and modifying views based on all of that.... so this one has bothered me much more than it should. Just makes me sad.

A simple principle: It is wrong to harm another person, but offense is not a harm. That was broadly accepted in philosophical literature on free speech when I was a student. That's no longer the case, and I think that's unfortunate. The current sense of entitlement to not be offended by anything is, in my view, the result of overly permissive parenting that has turned way too many people into unapologetic narcissists. That's not based on anything much other than that's the general sense that I get, so take it with a grain of salt.

There's a guy that I went to college with who's s a pretty extreme leftist, and I've had the odd conversation with him on Facebook. I'm constantly astonished at the stupidity he's willing to support. To the point about violence, he likes to say that punching Nazis is commendable behavior. Now, I don't like Nazis any more than he does. My problem with his attitude is it seems that there are Nazi's everywhere - pretty much anyone who disagrees with him is a Nazi, it seems to me.

To this point about Nazis, a prominent atheist posted something that I thought was in really bad taste on Facebook in response to Charlie Kirk's murder (a guy named Matt Dillahunty, if anyone cares - he has a show called the Atheist Experience where he treats people like shit when they call in - he's really quite an asshole). One of the comments in response to his post was:" "Killling Nazis is an American tradition". The comment now has 925 likes, 112 hearts, 4 angry faces, and 1 hug - by far the most reactions of any comment to the post. That's where a whole lot of people are at, I guess. But MAGA people are the deplorables. These people are so fucking self-righteous and completely devoid of self awareness that it's pointless to try to reason with them. I'm an atheist and probably by most standards pretty liberal (probably more libertarian but I really don't care to label myself) but I don't want to be associated with these twits.

The guy from MSNBC that said the stupid comment about they didn't know if it was someone shooting their gun in celebration for Kirk was fired.

https://thearchivist24.com/2025/09/12/bullets-used-in-charlie-kirk-assassination-found-with-disturbing-messages/

"...Disturbing Messages Engraved on Bullets
Authorities confirmed that several casings bore handwritten or engraved words, appearing to taunt or mock their intended target. Among the recovered evidence:

One casing read: “hey fascist.”

Another had the single word: “catch.”

A live round bore lyrics from the famous Italian resistance song, “Bella Ciao”: “oh Bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao.”

Perhaps most shockingly, one unfired round included a crude message: “if you read this you are gay lmao.”

Law enforcement sources described these writings as “disturbing” and “juvenile,” yet also potentially indicative of the shooter’s mindset and ideological influences. Investigators believe the messages may have been intended both as personal statements and as a twisted form of psychological warfare..."

Fuck you bet. I’ll buy the bullets.

That is what’s needed to show any criminal how the law works.or used to work. And should work.

Ones admission to a serious crime is a good guilty plea. No reason for appeals to tie up the court system.

This wreaks of a young man who was failing in life and not living up to his expectations.

Probably not doing well in college or with women he lashes out and blames society and others rather then continue to work on himself.

The picture of who he was and who he had become and why will come out in the next few days.

Curated and narrated and delivered by the same people that drove our society to where it is.

So yeah you’ll get the story, the story they want you to get.

Here’s what AI currently states:

Utah state voter records indicate he was registered to vote but unaffiliated with any political party. Family members told investigators that Robinson had become "more political in recent years" and expressed strong dislike for Charlie Kirk, describing him as "full of hate and spreading hate" during a family dinner before the shooting. He mentioned Kirk's upcoming event at Utah Valley University and voiced opposition to his conservative viewpoints. However, his family's Republican affiliation and the conservative cultural context of St. George, Utah, suggest he may have been radicalized toward left-leaning or anti-conservative extremism (e.g., references to "fascist" and anti-fascist slogans on the casings), but not formally as a liberal. Some online commentary speculates he was influenced by anti-fascist or ANTIFA-like ideologies, but this is unconfirmed by officials. The investigation is ongoing, and no manifesto or explicit political affiliation has been publicly released.

I just heard he was "admitted to Utah State University on a prestigious scholarship in 2021. He served only 1 semester."

Here is a huge issue that I think a lot of you don't see as an issue. A lot of you, including the PRESIDENT of the United States, came out instantly with "the radical left/democrats need to pay" before even any facts were presented.   I figured it probably could have been a radical that is leaning left but I sure as hell wouldn't call for blood before any facts were out there, that's stupid and ignorant. This is a good example of why our country is in such turmoil. Now isn't the time for incompetent leadership and forcing more division. More division leads to this violence.

Look at the statements by Sanders, Obama and Trump. Be honest and think to yourself which ones represent real leadership.  I wish everyone here the best but I also wish a lot of people would get their heads out of their ass.

Sorry but the words "radical left" do not incite violence. You're delusional to say that Trump was calling for blood. All he's saying is that the cable news channels need to stop calling Trump voters and the administration "Nazis".

Just to add. The left has truly radical ideas. Supporting the trans-ing of minors is radical. If you refuse to believe that there's not much left to say. This will be common knowledge at some point when we get through this era.

Mystery’s over. They’ll bury this guy and that’s it. I doubt he’ll talk, if he was put up to it.

Well in Trump's case, all you have to do is not bow to him and you'll be labeled "radical left", so you're not wrong there. I think you are gravely mistaken for how this era will be looked on, I'll leave it at that.

This whole situation and family is bizarre. His dad is a brass in the Sheriff's Department but then the kids are anti-trump?

Kid had everything going for him (as far as we could see).

I really wish I could read minds to see how people think...

Good conservative kids go to college and become infected with woke propaganda?

Geez, I just don't understand how quickly you guys turned hateful on a longtime member of this moto community.

This shows how broken our society and our ability to have a discussion has become.

I can see how that first line can come off a little harsh, but some of these replies just seem a little overboard.

Lumpy expressed an opinion. He did not celebrate that he was killed like some have done. He did not point out ironic things Kirk said, taken out of context.

You may not agree. But damn, it seems like there is so much bad shit happening all the freaking time it is hard to rank one shitty thing over another one.

Society does seem a little jaded. Kirk's murder is a tragedy. His wife losing a husband and his kids losing a father is terrible, and they have my condolences and sympathies, but should we feel worse for them than the families of the children killed in Colorado?

One of the things I really liked about Charlie Kirk was that he often really listened to someone's statements and tried to find common ground. It is admirable thing.

Maybe there is some room to do that before forming a lynch mob or wishing ill will on someone that we at least share one common interest with.

Like I said, that first line does seem a little harsh. I am the type that often has to edit my posts because I realize that it sounds different than I intended.

I prefer to give someone the benefit of the doubt and perhaps let them clarify or explain than forget that we have shared in a lot of good discussions and throw them under the bus and ask the bus driver to backup and go over them again.
