Im disappointed like many others, the racing is so good in this format and most of the top guys are all healthy...... BUT I do agree with the call once all the facts have been presented and I would have made the same call.

How can people take our sport serious lol

Reasonable people understand that there are a myriad of factors that play a part in difficult and unpopular decisions having to be made when things that are out of your control happen. It's an anomoly.

Well, thanks to this being a four-wide drag strip, each lane has massive concrete barriers in between them to land on.

I know many of us have raced mudders during our times in motocross or some form of off-road race. I can't imagine few if any of us have every race a SX mudder, though. That is its own beast.

Can they not race tomorrow morning what is stopping them?

A host of items such as venue rental/limitations on when it has to be cleaned up and everything moved out. Rescheduling all of the TV crew, track staff, operations and more to stay another day. All the teams staff, riders, media etc.

Big one is probably TV staff, the cost to keep them here another day and if it’s even logistically possible with their timelines.

This is telling in itself.... those in control see this as a TV product, not a sport. A sport that takes itself seriously plays their playoff games one way or another whether or not they're on TV or have fans present.

It would have been a great mudder with tTV highlights for years to come.

On the safety aspect…cut the lips of the large jumps so they’re un-jumpable or have a quick riders meeting and inform the riders there will be red cross flagged jumps for the remainder of the event.

Oh well.

Millions for a championship in the 450 half a million for the 250s and they can’t pay the people overtime to run two motos Sunday morning!? What about the people that spent hundreds if not thousand to attend the race?

My problem is your acting like it’s okay and will defend Feld and mx sports to save your ass

Why are you being an asshole towards me about this? I don’t have to answer your questions, I’m taking time out of what could be my four hours of sleep before I get on my morning flight. For what? A disgruntled (drinking?) fan to come at me because he’s not happy with the sport?

They can not fix the track. You can't build a new track out of mud and you can't race on this layout. I know you don't believe it and liviing in SOCal you never see rain like this. YOU have 4 concrete walls to go over. There is a chance of rain tomorrow morning also. And this is clay not dirt you are not easily moving it around when it is this wet.

The race is supposed to consist of two moto combined scores

Ever heard of Formula 1? They're kinda mainstream.

They canceled the 2021 Belgian race after a few laps behind the safety car, and awarded points based on qualifying position.

Thr rules got changed so they must run at least 2 laps under green now to award points but they still don't  run make up races on Monday.

There are still my original points about safety and rider concerns that aren’t going to really be solved much by a first thing in the morning race. Our sport is beyond not perfect, I get it, I deal with it first hand everyday.

Cancellations in major motorsports for extreme weather aren’t that uncommon. It sucks, but it happens. You don’t see F1 racing on Monday if weather makes racing unsuitable and unsafe. There are so many logistics, costs, and other factors to take into accord.

On top of what I said about most riders and teams not being into containing in such conditions.

I get it, it’s a massive bummer and not everyone is going to agree with the decision. No sport is perfect or always has the perfect answer.

You seem to think adding a day is a relatively small expense. Clearly, it’s not.

I get all of that. My gripe is mostly that this decision totally contradicts the playoff story they're shoving down everyone's throat. If they believe the things they're saying about this being a playoff, you have to run the race.

Watching the Matty B video now. I get that back section was blown out. But the part in front of the stands looked workable for sure. Why didn’t they reroute that back section out? This could have been an easy fix. That also solves the lighting (💡not⚡️) issue. Still can’t believe 2nd motos got scratched.

Go read ML's first post on page 1, he covers why they didn't cut out the back section.

One issue I heard in passing, about ten minutes before the cancellation came out, was how Dirt Wurx was going to deal with re-routing the "motocross section". Everyone had agreed that section was beyond gone and needed to be cut out to keep racing, which might seem simple to re-route the track right before it left the grandstand area... However, they mentioned they would have to build a section to circumvent over the walls again, and with very muddy dirt. There were talks of running one section the wrong way to re-route a lane, and some other comments. Either way, they mentioned it would take them at least 30 minutes or longer to make the changes needed once we left the lightning delay. (30 mins after each lightning strike before they're cleared to work on the track or lineup riders). Some radar trackers that teams showed me displayed another possible cell hitting us soon as well.

On top of that, I was in the pits for a bit before the cancellation. The majority of teams and riders I spoke to were pushing for a cancellation. A few commented about how sketchy the track was before the rain, and not a lot wanted to go back out there. Including a couple of podium-level 450 guys commenting on it...

I think it's a combination of factors. Running late into the day, issues with the outdoor section, needed time to get the track usable, pressure from teams and riders to cancel, disagreements on track re-routes, etc.

It’s racing.  The moto section was the deciding factor.  What a joke.  This sport blows my mind.

There's quite a few grown-ass men posting in this thread who have the emotional intelligence of a 3 year old throwing a tantrum because things didn't go the way they wanted. Probably a lot of the same guys who were bitching about the SF race actually being held in the mud last year, too.

Thanks I missed that part. I skipped over long post from ML because apparently people were attacking him.

Even after reading I still think it would have been possible. Sounds like they gave up before making a good decision. 30 min isn’t shit if you can illuminate that area in front of the grandstands. Build a wooden ramp for them to cross the barrier if that was the main issue. Races could have proceeded at 8:00pm for all any of the fans care.

If we had any rider seriously injured because they ran it anyways in sketchy conditions we’d be looking for a head to hang. This is not an outdoor mx track where there is experience managing these conditions without venue limitations. Agreed not happy but stuff happens and it’s the right call.

By the way did you ever happen to ride a Suzuki a few years back by any chance?
