Chad Reed Goes Down Hard


A few minutes ago in the first AMA Supercross class practice, San Manuel Yamaha's Chad Reed went down hard in a technical timing section and crawled off to the side of the track. The practice was red flagged and they had to take Reed off the track on an Asterisk Medic Mule.

He looked to be favoring his right arm or wrist. Here's hoping he's okay.

RacerX Update


Word now is that Chad Reed was taken in an ambulance to a local hospital for a possible rib injury and breathing problems. Supercross Live!'s Jim Holley saw Reed being loaded into the ambulance and said he was coughing up blood. Stay tuned as we learn more.

question is what will be said if it was a Mechanical issue and not rider error ?

He could sit out this week and still win the title@ 90%.

Due to the blood issue even something minor I'd be surprised to see him tonight unless he simply bit his tongue and that's what was coming out when he was coughing.

1: You're assuming KDub will win, he hasn't been finishing second every week. I think Hill and Milsaps both have the advantage over Windham with Reed out.

2: The blood doesn't sound good, but if it was minor and it is strictly a pain issue Reed seems to do OK with that.

3:Windham still hasn't had his bad race, odds say he will in 16/17 rounds( whatever it is)

I do not believe you can miss (DNS) all of the day practices/qualifiers and then use the mulligan.

I think you have to have at least participated in them, and in the event of a problem, you can use it.

He has the fastest lap in first practice/qualifier so he has a spot in the night show, but I don't know if you can DNS your heat and LCQ and use the mulligan.

Agreed, Im pretty sure the provisional is only available if you miss qualifying through the night heats/LCQ. I don't think it works that you can just show up for the first time at the line of the main event. Maybe a moot point though if CR is beat up enough to sit in the hospital for a while. If he went in the ambulance, it can't be just a bit tongue and some bumps & bruises.

Yeah, doc doesn't just send anything and everything out by ambulance, so that makes it more concerning. Hopefully just a precaution. Hate seeing anybody out of the series like that.

If Reed is out... KW '08? Long over due.

If there was any chance of riding the main all he'd have to do is roll over the gate at most. I'm not holding the rulebook in my hand but I think the provisional would include a mechanical prior to the gate dropping.

My son was talking to me on the phone sitting in front of that rythem section when it happened. Yes reed laid there a long time. But, Andy said that when he got up ( not kidding) he did 10 push ups on the face of the jump and got on the mule....We'll have to see what happens tonight.
