Guess I’m just different, and probably a bit biased. Steve does seems to poo poo on Tomac every chance he gets tho.

Isn’t Eli entitled to his own opinion just like Steve?

I think what Eli is saying is, at last I’m out here doing my job unlike Steve who doesn’t even shown up to the “press” conferences. The fireworks jab is just a shot at him for shi…. on American patriotism, again Elis opinion.

He also said he wasn’t feeling well, I for one get salty well when I feel under the weather as well.

Not entitled to your own opinion unless it agrees with the vital cabal. They'd shit on Tomac in a second if he said something they didn't like.

And yes, Tomac was taking a jab at Matthes because Matthes doesn't like American patriotism, and flag waving (which is why I loved Eli's tweet). Like many, he's bought into the idea that being proud of your own country, waving a flag, etc. is ethnocentric. Of course, that only applies to America.

If Mikkel Haarup won the 250 class and flew a Danish flag, Matthes would be all about it.

I think the motivation for most of you guys is that “if Eli Tomac ages out that means he and I are similar”. Just because you were washed in your 20’s doesn’t mean everyone else is.

I'm a Tomac fan and am holding out hope he comes alive in SMX, but Matthes seems to be spot on. The hero rides come few and far between, not often enough to beat the hot new thing over a full series/overcome poor bike setup by just riding through it.

He's definitely against it. In 2023, Danger Deegs destroyed the competition at Washougal, and in one of the coolest podium interviews in all of moto, holds up an American flag proudly displaying the red, white, and blue.

But Matthes (and apparently the Lawrence's as well) didn't like that and cried about it on pulpmx, and also didn't like the crowd chanting USA, USA, USA, even though there were 2 Aussie flags being displayed in the crowd.

Heck, this was on the podium at a national in 2022.

I happened to catch the tweet a couple minutes after he posted it, I was dying laughing. I don't even vcare the subject matter, the fact Eli comes up once a year to hurl some shit is incredible to me. I'm here for it all.

Maybe I'm optimistic because I respect Tomac so much, but I feel he's going to level up next year on the new bike. I believe KTM can really custom tailor that bike to him. It's going to have all the power he wants, maybe a little more options for engine and chassis than his Yamaha, and I feel the KTM might have a bigger window that it works really well. He hasn't actually had a ton of time on the Yamaha since they changed the chassis in 2023.

KTM has always been able to make changes very quickly, and since working with Chase it seems they are willing to go great lengths to make a rider happy.

In addition, I believe he's still not 100% after multple years in a row of injury. I believe there will be more frequent rides where he is firing on all cylinders.

Maybe I'm just hoping, idk.

This is a bad take. Steve has an issue (as do I) with Deegan cosplaying Captain America during the season and then making excuses not to race MXoN for Team USA for 2 years in a row. I don’t mind when guys opt out of racing MXoN for a variety of wide known reasons that they do, but don’t claim to bleed Red, White, and Blue and then duck the biggest international race that our sport has.

In my eyes, Deegs waived the flag to divided fans against the Aussies… it’s all antics for clicks and I just feel like it’s lame as shit.

While I agree with you. Tomac was the next guy next to Jett in SX. Is he going to beat Jett straight up for a title? No, but he can beat everyone else and Steve doesn’t portray he believes that.

Simple fact, Tomac, Degan or any other racer doesn't need or owe Matthes anything.  Not the other way around.

That's a very poor take. Very poor. Steve was crying about the flag waving and crowd chanting USA 2 days later on pulpmx, long before the team was announced.

It was also Haiden's rookie season, his first 1-1 in a national (the first 1-1 that season in the 250 class), so the kid can be happy about it and wave the flag. The Aussies brothers were cleaning up, and Deegan gets a win which injected a bit of patriotism into the crowd, especially when that awesome Stars and Stripes was raised up. That wasn't to divide fans. Another poor take on your part. Very poor. It was to celebrate the very heart of competition, which is to win.

Both times Deegan didn't go, his reasons were legitimate. Perfectly legitimate. Only losers don't accept that. If it had been any other racer, people would have a different tune.

Tomac's tweet was 1. not even related to anything Matthes said and 2. wasn't even an honest critique of Matthes.

Honestly the whole calling Steve a lib thing is so tired.

The dude is pretty center in most things and a live and let live minded guy if you actually listen to his takes instead of getting triggered.

It’s funny that our sport is so dominated by upper middle class white people and we have probably the single most conservative sport by a long shot.  It’s ok to have people with different perspectives.  Alienating anyone with a differing opinion does not help the sport grow whatsoever.  I like lots of people with different opinions than mine.  And if we both like dirtbikes then that’s cooler than talking about some dumbass hot button news article.  Let alone fireworks? Like bro cmon.

He is a lefty.

He might have been a little too low on Tomac before SX, but unless I'm forgetting something, he seems pretty spot on now. As far as I can remember he's not making any outrageous claims other than he won't win the title. Still says he's going to keep winning races (even though it looks like he will go winless for overalls this outdoor season)

I think he is a lot feistier in SMX and is tied for 2nd favorite with Sexton after Jett.

The fact that Chase’s bike is as dialed as it is gives me a lot of hope for Eli riding it next year. They have that thing dialed for him in SX and MX. To have that as a base to work from will hopefully help them get him dialed in real quick. His biggest gripe is always the rear being too low. I think if they get that shock dialed they can adjust anything else they need to. I agree anout the power too. KTM has zero issue squeezing power out of those motors.

It's accurate in your opinion.  Your opinion is not fact.

Steve complains about alot of little things - that's part of his persona like it or hate it but most complaints are funny or interesting. When he complained about fireworks going on for too long, nobody heard "too long". They heard what they wanted to hear "from a liberal" and attacked his patriotism. I just hear an old guy like me complaining about noise. It just happened to be fireworks and Steve isn't conservative so he got blasted.
