I most certainly haven’t. I’ve never tried, nor will I ever try.

The bibs are ugly, that’s all. That’s the whole point of this thread. They look like shit in photos and videos and prevent supporters and sponsors of the riders from being shown.

Anyways, since you are in this thread and didn’t answer this question several months ago, I’ll ask again.

Can I ask what percentage of your product is made in the USA, and which parts specifically? There isn’t much there, really. Is it the hose? Is it the bag it’s packaged in? Is it the cardboard attached to the bag? Is it just the clamp?

Thank you.

Yes on ugly .  Why a bib ? I never figured that out.  I hear they don’t breath. Why not not a mesh bib ?  Hotter the better for me but if it restricts my movement on my ovr the jersey old school HRp chest protector.  That bitch is coming off .  What’s the penalty for not wearing it.  I think everyone knows what event where at right ?  This is not track & field .  My sponsors pay big money Yo for a spot . Not to get covered up by a rodeo clown bib, Yo. Haha .  What next a corn cob pipe with mismatching hillbilly cowboy boots & a event tshirt that has to b worn in staging ?

Think it just stemmed from being a staple at the event to now them promoting the title sponsors on there and leaving little room for personal sponsors. Used to be a “cool” tradition being as Loretta’s was the biggest and “only” race for Am’s. Think it’s still cool for people trying to collect one by earning it but seems kinda played out.

The OP is not wrong.

Whether they should remain or their sentimental value is another discussion.

"Ugly is in", used to be on the side of a TLD hat back in the day. Wish I had a pic.

8/5/2025 7:22pm

So I gather it is ubiquitous badge of honor to wear something so ugly?

Actually Loretta’s was never the “only” mature race for amateurs…

World Mini GP started in 1972, as well as Mini O’s, which was called the Winter Olympics back in 1972.
Then came Lake Whitney in 1973 and Ponca City in 1975.

Loretta’s started in 1982 and Oak Hill followed in 1986.

They should do away with bibs. Zero reason in 2025 to have them. We have transponders and backup hand scoring. It’s fine.

Ugly and you have to pay for them, and you have to pay EXTRA to get your name on it

I’m not looking for a pissing match, but you’re still not giving accurate info…

(The “till now” part is confusing)

While Loretta’s and Mini O’s are the only original amateur nationals still running. (Ponca has restarted racing, but its glory ended in 2014.

Lake Whitney went until 2010

Ponca raced until 2014

Oak hill went until 2015

World Mini GP went until 2016

Maybe you meant the last 10 years (or so…) ?

What I am trying say is Loretta’s was the “most prestigious” out of them all and still runs.

That’s because a lot of people sign up then don’t show up to race. They have to be able to give the bib to the next in line. Alternates are filling spots on race day.

Just to set the record straight...

There is only 1 AMA Amateur National, is the AMA National Championship at Loretta Lynn's. All the other so called AMA Amateur Nationals are NOT Nationals. They are either Featured Events or Major Events. Lots of riders and even the industry call Mini O's, Freestone, Spring A Ding and Mammoth nationals but they are not. You will not find the word National on any of their advertising or awards. The only way to become an AMA Amateur National Champion is to win Loretta's.

Ask the riders who have bibs on their wall if they like them. It is a great part of the event and if you ever rode the event you would agree. It is not easy to make it to Loretta's and making it is an accomplishment that is honored in many ways, the best Amateur event in the world, world famous and coolest venue and the list goes on. The bib goes on to make the event unique and special and you can always tell a photo from Loretta's. I think they started as in Europe they used to have to wear bibs years ago.

I was curious as to when and why LL started using them? Yes they’re ugly, yes it’s mostly just a way for MX sports to slap their sponsors on every rider, yes I bought two, one for his room and one for the bike shop 😂.

The Winter Olympics started in South Jacksonville, FL and then moved to Newberry, FL.  The original format was a motocross track, a TT track and a hare scramble course. I raced those on a 60 and 80 in late 70's to '81 then I took a break for soccer since I was one of the star players, when I got back to racing in the later 80's it was only MX and SX, so I don't know what year it changed.

You get 1 with just the number with your entry, up to you if you want your name on it or if you want to buy more for souvenirs. Nobody putting a gun to anybody's head here.
