This happens just about every year at Loretta’s. Heck, go to your local night race series and it is happening. It’s not that big of a deal. The only reason it’s even a thing is because of who got caught. Otherwise you probably never hear a word about it

They do it because no other class gains more from even small “cheats” than the shaft 50 class.  Sad that they feel the need…  Punishment needs to be more severe.

I remember back in the mini cycle boom days of late 70’s to late 80’s, the stock class was a shit show at World Mini, etc.  Measuring port chamfer angles, etc.

Good grief…how is it so hard to understand that Star wasn’t breaking any rules with that bike?! They fought the claim because they didn’t want their race engine (and its secrets) in private hands.

The way they/the Deegans/Cotter HANDLED the whole thing was questionable, no doubt, but the bike itself broke no rules. I guess this will have to be explained until the end of time…

If they didn't want their parts in private hands, they shouldn't have run it.

The rule is there to prevent exactly that. And, if the bIke gets claimed and you don't hand it over, then you're cheating. How hard is that to understand? Good grief

I wouldn’t say I’m very good friends. Have t talked to them in years. I just know how the PW class is. Happens almost every year. My dad builds a ton of them and it’s a thing at every national and local race. The PW dads are the worst when it comes to cheating for their kids.

Word on streats was

60 Kit, QT Gear, Ceramic Bearings, Different drive shaft, different head

Basically anything you could change was. The "teammate's" bike was torn down too but was legal.

My opinion is they didnt think they would get top 10, ripped holeshot, bike got put in lock down and they had no way to escape.

And plenty of kids were on legal bikes, our buddy ran fastest lap in moto 2 and I know his is legal because we have same motor builder.

Imagine being so fucking desperate that you blatantly cheat in a 4 to 6 year old class.

I’d definitely send my kid to a training facility owned by folks that make those kind of decisions….

Shaving a "tad" off the cases really wakes up a PW as well......  Drilling out jets, slowing down the oil injector pump to where it barely functions, taking a torch multiple times to the spark arrestor to where it is basically useless, but still intact, storing your fuel in a ice chest, using baby oil mixed with Witch Hazel in the drive shaft.......  God I saw all kinds of shit back in the NMA days.  Parents were totally stupid trying to be clever.    The shaving of the cases has to be one of my all times favs though....boosting compression, all while the head and cylinder remained stock.  Nobody ever measured the cases for stock height.  Oh, and the grinding of the welds on the exhaust flange bolting to the cylinder.  Some of the factory beads were  a 1/8" thick.  A die grinder, with an arrowhead, and 5 mins can remove a shit load of excess material.  I've seen a bunch......  That is just the start of the list

I think Seth Dennis on 65's got done for chamfered ports in stock class.

Never seen a class taken so seriously

Because the bikes have the most to gain from cheating.

So Patterson, who has multiple championships, and eddie ray, who has at least one LL title, are race promoters and they run the training facility, NXT LEVEL 101 along with several other tracks.

What a nice look for them to get caught blatantly cheating.

"Duh!...I grabbed the wrong piston off the work bench".

on the other hand, They are in good company.

James Stewart got protested at gatorback when he was on a PW for running an illegal pinion gear off a Yamaha scooter.

When presented with the protest Big James admitted it was true and took the dq.

His career never recovered.

This whole class is a cheater class.  Only an idiot would put a 60 kit and win though. But its pretty crazy overall.

The honest reality is a stock PW wouldn't even make it a lap around the track.  With a fine tooth comb (and someone who knows what they are looking for) every bike would be DQ'd.  Most are subtle with mods and don't overdo it.  The rest are blatant all out cheaters. Ive seen and heard it all now. Its by far the most cheated in class of any moto.  Only the few handful of dads who have been at that level recently truly realize how off the rails it is.

If you take a stock PW and put a kid on it that is 15 lbs heavier than another kid.  They are 2 different bikes.  Interestingly at any areas, regionals or LLs.  These large kids that could almost ride a 65 (some already owning and practicing on 65s even) can pull a start.

I know every class cheats but the reality a Cobra is a fast bike already.  Sometimes even when you add more power the kid doesnt go faster.  its not like that in the PWs.  The bikes are so terribly slow that each little mod is highly significant.  You can double horsepower

It's a weird class. If you are truly one of the fast kids you go to Cobra Jr.  It's really a class for the kids who cant make on Cobra yet and the parents that want to drop $4-5k on a bike you can buy used for a grand.  Dont get me wrong, I love the racing and enjoy watching it.  Just wish Yamaha would sponsor the whole thing and pit crew up a fleet of random stockers like KTM does at Junior SX.  That would solve all of this.

You can take the fastest kid in the world on a 50cc and put him on a stocker PW and he has a zero percent chance of winning.  No other class is like that.  And thats the problem summed up.  Maybe back in the day it was different, i dont know, but today thats the way it is.

I just do not get how you have the face to show up to the next race as a parent after something like that. Shameful, and absolutely horrendous parenting.

This whole conversation is absolutely hilarious to me. The fact that PW-class cheating is so rife tickles me even more than the holier-than-thou pearl-clutchers complaining that it’s the end of Western civilization. Personally, I don’t condone cheating, but I am quite aware that it takes place everywhere. Entire industries have been formed to help people cheat on things.

I've seen this one before,
Ray family blames the engine builder, saying they didn't know.
Engine builder blames the Ray family, saying it was legal when it left his shop.

With public consensus split, this slides under the rug and everyone forgets about it by next week.

Since we're talking LL drama, were any convicted pedophiles there this year?
Been a minute since I've heard any Kevin Walker updates, but he served his time and is cured now (lol).

Was he a pedo or “just” a degenerate that recorded people in the bathroom?

The hidden camera in the backpack was in the bathroom that children were using to change into bathing suits.

Ya got to run a worn-out left side crank bearing and seal before drilling them jets out!

Why didn't they take the Protester into a private room and talk him out of protesting? or only the big scary Metal Mulisha can do that LOLOL

Like others have said, PW class is the biggest cheater class in the history of MX. Been that way for literally 30 years. Not a good look for facility owners and known personalities within the sport to have been caught with a bike with every cheater part you can have on it though lol.

Really its not up to the builder to decide what to do to the motor-thats up to the customer.  No builder will just build a cheater and not have the customer know about it.

WOW!

I agree that cheaters  should receive  a 2 year ban or more from ANY racing ANYWHERE.

G. Gordon,

Please see the following revisions to your rule in the interest of fairness…

“I agree that the ‘Cheater Parents’ should receive a 2 year ban or more from going to or participating in ANY racing ANYWHERE.”

Thank you,

The Management
