Wouldn’t they just ride that track backwards to prepare?
I’m all for it just because I want to hear all the parents who paid for their kid to train at a replica track bitch about it.
Would be awesome. Mxsports would never do that tho
A left-handed start there would be fun to watch. As long as it wasn't my kid in it. Lol.

That makes no sense.???
someone already died there a few years ago because the first turn is too fast as it is.
They ran it backwards before. I rode it backwards and liked it better. I think it was 94 or 95.
They need to make track changes and not tell anyone. This whole replica track thing is ridiculous.
Time to build a real track instead of a county fair layout suited to mini cycles.
Does that make it ridiculous that Star Yamaha builds a replica SX track every week for the round they are racing?
Motocross is outdoors and natural terrain. It needs to be raced on a track that has elevation, something that cant be replicated. A flat track in a field is not a national motocross track.
Do the replica tracks come with mini parents throwing hats and cussing at their kid for getting 3rd?
Beer cans are much more effective than hats in this situation.
In the old days when parents could prep the gates one parent threw their shovel or (spade) out on the track at their kid when he wasn't going fast enough. We had to avoid it while racing.
Track is so bad. It's clearly an issue when a Supermini is putting similar laptimes that 250A is putting out. They need to do something but it's "tradition".
I don't think Star was the only one, but yes it does. SX shouldn't be putting out track maps until the week of the race so no one can have it built before race day. I get dirt being different is a factor no matter what, but SX tracks being spec and layouts being released so early is stupid.
As far as LL, ya the layout needs to change every year so replicas can't be built. Saw MTF and Club had replicas, and I'm sure there are others. I'd bet next year there will be even more.
Stu Baylor has one at his place and I'm pretty sure that Greg Albertson has one at his facility as well.
There are a lot of changes that could be made to make LL better, but nothing will change.
Tim Cotter is 150 years old and obsessed with keeping everything the same as it was in 1987 when "the world was a better place" and men were men. Amateur motocross is absolutely plagued by this mentality, especially all the mx sports events.
Tell me why you are required to sign up online prior to these events but still spend 3 hours standing in line with 200 other people to "confirm" your sign up at the tracks. You could go on the list is long. The powers that be are old and rigid, they are deffinitely not going to change a track thats been largely the same for the last 40 years.
“SX shouldn't be putting out track maps until the week of the race so no one can have it built before race day.”
That would suck. We spend several thousand dollars every year to attend multiple races (SX,MX and SMX) and we always look at the track maps to decide which seats to purchase. If it was a crapshoot, we would probably just watch from home rather than roll the dice on crappy seats/viewing.
Pit Row
I've never bought seats off of track maps, so I didn't think about it that way. That's fine though, release the track map, list where the triples, finish and whoops will be, but don't show what the rhythm's will consist of. That should solve the problem
You have to sign up online because you have to set the field ahead of time. You have alternates waiting for any racer to drop out so they can get in. There are power rankings to determine which alternate gets in.
The issue isn't signing up online, the issue is standing in line for hours at the event itself (after signing up online, prior to the event) to 'check in' and go through the signup process a second time. It's incredibly stupid.
Yes, it could be faster. You would still have to sign in even though you entered online to get you bib and to make sure you showed up. If you didn't show there is an alternate chomping at the bit to take your spot. Other than getting more people to help sign up, they have down as well as they could. I've qualified and raced there 8 times (qualified 9 times), so I am familiar with what goes on.
That sounds like an argument to go back to separate mini and big bike amateur nationals.
I have never really understood the argument here.....everyone rides the exact same track. It comes down to starts & conditioning for the most part, and everyone has an equal chances before you draw the pins for the first motos.
Always seems to be great racing despite the smaller feel to the track.
I know that it not ever happening, but that track is not a track the biggest amateur race in the world should be run on. I've only been once but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't really shocked/disappointed when I saw it in person. The facility is great and traditional, and I had the time of my moto life but just blocked out how I felt about the racecourse.
Quote of the month....... Hands down. Nothing like pissing away months of little Jonny go fast training at X facility on a surveyed, built to spec, Loretta track, all for the glory of being the absolute best. God forbid, we HAVE to have a reason to justify our Freightliner family truckster for his millionaire career ahead, plus our 4th mortgage that is behind...... I say, change that fucker every year. The track doesn't cover very much ground to begin with, plus the cash MX Sports rapes out of folks year in, and out, they could very easily afford it. Change it! Nothing like opening the same Xmas present every year huh? Get with the times Cotter and crew.... The track from 1982 really could use a handjob...... Bikes, athletes, and times have changed. It seems, greed has not though...... You preach the utmost importance of proving your sports worth here, give them a track that at least says, this is the year 1999.
It could/should be LOTS faster. No reason to stand in line and sign in again, it should be done once - online. Let me state my name, they check a list, scratch my name off the list, give me a bag of goodies, and I'm on my way. Should be a 30s process per person, not a 10 minute process.
Superminis were 5-9 seconds a lap slower than Open Pro Sport
The days of 3 hour lines to sign up are long gone. They now do multiple sessions depending on class, online waivers and pre reg makes sure your AMA membership is current. It moves pretty quickly. You are there to get practice stickers, mechanics pass which has to be signed for, make sure frame #s haven't changed, confirm transponder number and get your bag of goodie and bib. I was in that 3 hour line for 10+ years. It is much better now.
Depends on the time of day, Superminis on a damn nice track can frighten folks with their speeds. The horse field takes an absolute beating for a solid week, and gets rougher than hell at times between preps. Full size bikes, vs big wheel minis isn't really a fair game. Put them both motos back to back on a equally prepped track at that shit hole, you would be very surprised at the outcome. That track as it sits, is built for minis, fast 125"s tops. Even Jett was quoted in saying, that you put it in third, and for the most part leave it there for the entire moto. Track is a joke.
