There are some riders that have badass nicknames that come from how they ride. It’d be cool to have a full list. Some examples:
Eli Tomac - Beast Mode
Jeffrey Herlings - The Bullet
Ryan Dungey - The Diesel
Blake Bagget - El Chupacabra
Tim Gasjer - Tiga (borderline, since it’s not stemming from his riding style, but it fits because tigers are badass and so is Tim)
Jeremy McGrath - Showtime
David Bailey - Little Professor
Is The Dogger a nickname inspired by Ron Lechien’s riding style? How about Bob ‘Hurricane’ Hannah?
Note that many elite racers don’t have nicknames like this (Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart, Chad Reed, Ryan Villopoto).
Also, many racers have nicknames that don’t come from their style (e.g. Bubba, Kroc).
so who am I missing as far as riding-inspired nicknames?
The Bomber Mark Barnett
The flying freckle. Jeff Ward
O-show. Johnny Omara
Too Tall. Mike Bell
Cowboy. Kent Howerton
K Dub. Kevin Windham
Forgot about Justin Barcia - Bam Bam.
Dangerboy...
I always assumed Lechien’s nickname was Dogger because “chien” is French for dog.

Man, back in the days riders had real nicknames, instead of the stupid "HD38", "RD5", "JL18",... abbreviations nowadays.
Holeshot Donnie Hansen
I think Howerton was Rhinestone Cowboy
That is the reason for it.
I actually preferred Mr 875 for Geboers. Showed that displacement didn't matter, he was just a badass on a motorcycle.
Ricky Bad Boy Johnson
Damon Beast from the East Bradshaw
Guy Airtime Cooper
John Junkyard Dog Dowd
Mookie ? I honestly have no idea what Mookie means lol.
Jimmy Weinert, Jammer
Broc Glover , Golden Boy
John Desoto , Fliyin Hawaiian

Good list here but missing Alex Ray - Sketchy

Not a nickname, but Nate Thrasher is just a badass name for moto!
Clint Hardick - Mic drop
Pit Row
Yeah, but he didn't get that nickname until the end of his career (obviously). He was widely known as The Kid since the beginning.
"Magoo" Chandler
David Vuillemin , Le Cobra
Phil Lawrence: Factory Phil
Mike Kiedrowski: MX Kied
1st name should have been Hugh
Le Chien = The dog
Many iconic nicknames in the 70's & 80's were from Larry Huffman, otherwise known as "Supermouth"
During the early LA Superbowl of MX events, Larry would call attention to the fast guys on track and label them with an affectionate nickname based on something relevant and catchy to their name or background.
He was the best race announcer getting the crowd excited about the race action and color commentary on the rider personalities.
If the Supermouth gave you a nickname, boy you made it in the sport!

It's been thrown around a few times, let's see if it sticks
Thanks for the list. I was trying to remember Kenny Zahrt's nickname.
This is a really fun thread to read through, lots of awesome nicknames through the years!
However it made me realize we missed a good one with RV, with his 100% effort, steer with the rear, amazing style on the bike I feel like he should have earned a badass nickname. The era of initial based names is just so boring.
El Chupacabra is probably my favorite one. It's engraved in my brain as a Kenny fan that thought he'd go over there and smoke everybody only to get picked up by El Chupacabra every single moto with 5-10 min to go.
