Tony Lorusso attempted to qualify at last years Southwick national on a 250F. He missed it by a 1/2 second I believe.
This year 450B is first out for qualifying first and Tony may attempt one more time. He’s got little prep as he’s been rebuilding both of his tracks all spring but we’re 50/50 he’ll show up. I’d like to think he has a better shot on the 450 where power isn’t such a factor but we’ll see.
We convinced him to spin three laps on a two stroke a few weeks ago. Filming doesn’t do it justice but he still rips at his age. I hope he lines up to attempts to qualify. What do you think his chances are?

First crack at a smooth track might be the ticket.
I agree, I think if he drops the hammer and gets out there at the front he’s got a good shot.
A few years ago local rider Mike Sotille set fastest quali time from 450B and it lasted all day. Might happen again.
So if it was a bone stock 250F it would have a bone stock ECU, Piston and Fuel...

Surely they give him the Jimmy D glory lap.
Fair point, though nobody is showing up to a national these days at the wick with a stockish bike…most have extensive motor work. Hence why I think the 450 is actually more favorable.
Give em hell Tony!
I think rain helped with that as well. Still, being first out in qualifying at Southwick is a pretty big advantage. I think a couple top 450 guys have had to use the Top 10 Automatic Qualifier rule a few times there.
LOL agreed, and he being 53 years old is all the thread needed for him to get respect and the "bone stock" comment was just cheerleading fluff.
Dont let these old experienced pro vet racers fool you. They may say they have a stock bike but always have something up their sleeve. The old guys tend to be clever time to time.
Hard to beat the racecraft and grit these guys like Tony have
This sport is the absolute worst when it comes to bone stock. When people say that now it usually means no factory unobtanium, huge pet peeve
Bone stock with full Akrapovic, GET ECU, A kit suspension and scoop tire. No graphics kit so it’s basically off the showroom floor.
Yup, just like Shortys win in SX at Seattle on the bone stock crf
RJ's older than 53.
Wait. So what is a privateer?
i like how everyones idea of BONE STOCK in usually not bone stock lol
Well, if he qualifies then I hope the usual gang doesn't crucify him for getting lapped a good few times. We all know how the lapper threads turn out.
The only time you find a bone stock bike is typically on the showroom floor.
Pit Row
....and of course the titanium parts, high-compression piston, flow porting, high-lift cams, electric water pump and race-light wheels. But it's bone stock!
I'm 48 and about to attempt my first colonoscopy
48 next month. Let me know how it goes 😂
Get the bottom and top end checked. Just make sure they do the top end first.
In his lifetime, I would be willing to bet that Tony has completed about 250,000 laps at Southwick. Absolutely the most of any human being. I can remember seeing him race there as long ago as 1981. Grand Marshall worthy?
Danm! Just checked Racer X and that was all the way back in 2011.Time really flies when you get older.
Qualifing is sprinting that’s all I would focus on getting ready . I can’t post pics to show ya the drop off from the elite guys at the age group comps. But a 55 yr old can run fast enough to get a d1 scholarship. I don’t think he would beat too many people with a 11.30 in d1 though . I think at 58 I could crack a high 10 with no training. Jump out 1st in timed practice & let your best lap in ya go. I think he could do it , if he gets a clean lap . Tough yr though to qualify
I had my first earlier this year...I'm 66. I shit like an atomic clock and zero other gut related issues. (The wife and her nosey sister made me do it). They removed 3 small polyps that were benign.
That wasn't the problem. It was the "cleanse". It stripped my gut biome. Took six months for digestion and poop routine to return to normal. I ain't kiddin' fellas. No shit.🙃
I go to some local races to hang with a bud and his boys, who are building quite a rep. It's still the same as when I started in the '70's. The big talk in the pits is the local legend that has signed up. Dudes are in their 40's or 50's but still bring dread if he's in your class. I ain't as good as I once was but....😉
2011 was only like 4 years ago
