Kevin has admitted he didn't train nearly enough and relied on his natural talent too much. Chase is definitely a head case. He's my favorite current rider but I'm just over the roller coaster of cheering for him. My brain couldn't even process what he was thinking at the Arlington triple crown. He finished sx strong and I thought he would start out mx on fire. The bottom dropped out one moto into the mx season.
Gotcha. Everybody posting like it’s a done thing lol.
Its called stock. Stock options. One way to offset liquid cash.
Pretty common. Probably not in the moto industry but always that option.
Chad Reed did it with Boost Mobile stock.

Chase is 25, he has a lot of racing left in him. There was a point when people said Eli was a head case too. Then he came out and won multiple championships and was labeled FMOTP at times. The reality is, Chase isn't a head case. He's purely a racer and wants to win. He hasn't learned how to "Cooper Webb" a championship. I think he gets there. Eli went through a similar stage in his career as well.
At the first of the year Anderson had some podiums and top ten finishes so the bike seemed plenty competitive for a while. So what went sideways? The bikes? The riders?
Chase and Windham are nothing alike. Outside of getting burned out for a while mid career, Kdub rarely made mental mistakes or crashed out of a race. He just ran into McGrath, Ricky, Chad Reed, and Stew his entire career. 8 times he finished runner up to one of those. 8!
Chase should have at least 1 more title at this point that he's thrown away.
That being said, Windham probably would give every win he has away for one of Chase's 2 titles.
In regards to the down votes on my post, I see your point. KTM is in a great financial situation, with no Indian influence. Yeah, and Kawasaki's race team is killing it.
Yep, it's a sad state of affairs for true fans of the sport that SX is where all the emphasis, and money, is directed. This is why you have that fat burger munching turd Cooper Webb able to either not show up outdoors or say he's just there to 'have fun'. And he's not the only one. Stew and Reed did it, and so is Roczen now also.
No. Someone as elite as Chase will always have a factory ride.
Yes, Chase could personally murder every single family member of every single team member on every factory team - and he'd still get hired.
Except Chase has multiple titles.
I don't know Herr Lich. Chase is an elite rider, but everywhere he goes he bitched about the bike. I don't see him as a positive for a manufacturer. Even when he wins he states the bike needs work. Not a good look for any maker.
SX and MX are two different animals.
It is done. When insiders say 'the rumour is so and so has signed' that means they have signed. It's just the weird gymnastics everyone has to do because the teams have an incomprehensible policy of not announcing contracts when they're signed.
Chase is going to Kawi.
Eli is going to KTM.
I see your point but teams care about nothing but winning. Even if a rider spent all day every day slamming a bike this would be offset by them winning.
Correct me if I'm wrong but did Chase talk down the KTM that much? The entire world has shit on the new chassis since it came out in '23. I dont think Chase has done anything but make KTM look good by winning on it
he had an interview a while ago with Lewis and had nothing but bad things to say about the KTM. Video got taken down but audio is still floating around.
Pit Row
Gotcha. Not that it surprises me whatsoever. But I didn't think there was anything blatant. I stand corrected
This. The KTM won 8 SX races (9, counting Mookie) AND it's been on the 450 podium outdoors consistently. Eli signed because he sees this happening. I really don't think this is a bike thing with Chase. I think it's more than that and even if it is a bike thing, it's still a good enough platform to win over half the races in SX which is pretty awesome.
another one he isnt the happiest

RC won on every bike he straddled, even handily winning championships on a 250 despite a 450 dominated field.
RC was the opposite of Chase. Less talent, but way more heart and did whatever it took. He had problems with bikes too but made them work for him and thats all that mattered.
Too bad he is the opposite in the booth.....
Ricky had some of the most out in left field bike setups of all time and he crushed everybody anyway.
You're still missing the point: Jordan didn't have to build anything for Nike but interest in shoes.
It wouldn't have been a smart move for Jordan as a top prospect and Olympic gold medalist to go play for a brand new Nike basketball team instead of the Chicago Bulls, regardless of the financials.
What are you talking about?
Company X could offer Chase a 2 year deal worth X amount. On top of that they could offer him so much in stock, lets a million dollars worth of stock wherever the value is when his contract starts. More of a risk for Chase but if felt Ducati as a whole, will continue to grow as a company the next 10-20 years, that dollar amount of shares will grow.
There is no Team Nike. Nike wantes Jordan to endorse their ahoe brand. They offered him $500,000 a year for ao many years and also was offered stock options, which he took. The brand took off and his stock shares made him a lot more money than taking “all” the money in liquid form.
Charles Barkly did the same thing after Jordan himself advised him to. It works out well in both situations.
thats that.
can we lay this hypothetical business contract option to rest?
Someone a few posts up mentioned Chad Reed doing something similar at one time.
Peace
Yes,
Chase could ask for an insane amount of stock, or better yet, 10 gajillion dollars, but under any competitive compensation structure, he will still be going to an undeveloped bike and program. Of course it was a good idea for Michael Jordan to negotiate a bunch of possible future compensation for something that would not effect his athletic career trajectory in any way.
But even if we were to mindlessly remove the risk of such a deal for Chase vs Michael, it still doesn't financially pencil. Ducati is not an upstart brand trying to take over a massive global market like Nike was when they signed Jordan, just three years removed from their IPO. Ducati is a division of the largest motor vehicle company in the world trying to branch into another tiny segment. VW stock doesn't show the potential for meteoric rise. It is a solid, dividends-paying blue chip, with hundreds of billions of dollars in shares in circulation. If Chase wants to invest in it, he can regardless of which manufacturer he rides for.
The last time kawasaki won a championship I think was 2020 with tomac. I wish ET3 would go back to Kawasaki but Chase apparently doesn't like the KTM
Ducati upstart in the mx market but seem oretty aggressive. Chase is young. Maybe the bike is close. Idk.
Just saying there are many ways to get creative when negotiating a deal.
I should know well. I do plenty of this sort of thing. Just not with moto. 😊
I just don't get what you are saying.
In Nike's case, it was clear why they offered Jordan a portion of the company: they were a new company with limited liquidity, but poised for growth, and that's what they could offer instead of whatever deal established companies like Converse and Adidas had: "If you believe in the vision, we'll give you a piece of it."
It doesn't matter that Ducati is upstart in our tiny segment. They are a division of one of the biggest corporations on the globe. It is a rock solid stock. It is not an upside lottery ticket. Chase will never be a significant holder in it under any circumstance.
I could see it if you were maybe talking about Chase riding for Stark, but that would be an even more speculative career gamble. Once again, Jordan was just wearing Nike shoes while actually working for the Chicago Bulls. He was not working directly for the company as an athlete.
