I think the press conference was a perfectly good time to ask this hypothetical question... I loved it!
Unbelievable. Answered as good as he could. As far as Tomac “if looks could kill” bro was pissed. I think it’s time for MX Sports to give out a list of questions that are not allowed. Also think it’s time to stop being so secretive about things like this. #ProMotocross pic.twitter.com/rZgbJjb0Qs

Hopper is the reason why its nearly impossible to get a media pass. Dumbest question to ask when these guys cannot talk about contracts. Such a dumbass. Revoke media pass please.
Just heard the RacerX review pod where they spoke on it, and I’m going to disagree with those guys on this one. The press should be allowed to ask questions about contracts, it’s up to the riders to address them appropriately, in my opinion.
This one is also pretty uncomfortable to watch.. Also from this weekend. Prado clearly didnt want to say it, yet he still continued to ask him. Have some respect dude
Time & place. Not the appropriate platform for that question. AP would likely have had the same answer during a 1:1 interview. No need to put Eli on blast like that.

If they can’t ask questions beyond what the teams release, what would be the point of media? This sport is uniquely weird about not discussing contract talks. As far as I am concerned they should ask. Nobody is being forced to answer. AP could have simply said something to the effect of no comment, and that would have been fine too. The really weird part is some of the moto media does seem to know things like where Chase and Eli are going and plays along saying these questions shouldn’t be asked. What’s the point of them knowing? Then they say they won’t be trusted if they share, but by not sharing it is pointless. I’m sure there is some nuance there but it seems biased to them just wanting to be in the boys club.
Why ask a stupid hypothetical question like that one. Garbage media. Hopper is a Youtube jackass!
Other sports talk about contracts and switching teams, why is it such a forbidden topic with MX? For how gnarly this sport and racers are, they sure get their feelings hurt easily when asked anything besides the typical questions
The AMA doesn't have a riders union where everything is public, that's why. And thank god. A union would ruin this sport. Keep it privately owned!
I saw a comment to a video fo this on IG and it said “hopper is the reason they have instructions on shampoo bottles” 🤣
Yes, let's only give the riders softball questions, and if they are asked a question we are all curious about, revoke their media pass!
How absurd.
Eli has a gnarly poker face.
Vital member: The press is too worried about being buddies and won't ask tough uncomfortable questions.
Also Vital member: Hopper is a jackass, he shouldn't be asking these questions the riders can't answer.
I liked the way both of them handled the question, he wouldn't answer, Hopper pushed him a little and got a bit of an answer. He almost gave Prado a little bit to be happy about in a rough season.
I like it. If I hear one more week of Lewis asking people about bike changes I'm going to lose it.
In the grand scheme - WFC?
Anxious to see Eli on a KTM
Vital: “We want to know where Eli is going!”
Hopper basically asks.
Vital: “How dare he!!!”
I love this forum
Its not the question is the problem. Its the time and place.... THIS WAS NOT THE TIME AND PLACE.
That’s his thing he’s consistent though. Watch Vitals Pre race show with Prado the other riders interviewed too. I know how bad he wants his 1st question to be on bike setup & progress . But he throws a decoy question out 1st . Then he gets all excited asking about the process & setup . Haha

"press conference"
I feel like the continued “bike setup questions” are because the riders are answering in a vague way so Big Lew counters their answer with more or less the same question just worded in a different way. It’s actually worked out several times now where the rider reveals something more specific about a change they made during that follow up question.
Yea that was weird. Steve’s take made no sense. It’s not the media’s job to protect the riders. Ask the questions and it won’t be so taboo to not ask those questions.
I’m for it. Let the media ask whatever the hell they want! It’s on the highly paid professional that is being asked the question to formulate a response that aligns with whatever they can or cannot say. That’s why they are paid the big bucks. Keep the hard questions coming.
Some one made my favorite rider uncomfortable, waaaaaahhhhhhhh!
I feel like a lot of fans act like it’s the riders that want this all to be secret but I don’t think they have a say at all. I think asking these types of questions when you know their hands are tied and they aren’t supposed to talk about it is kind of a shitty position to put them in.
Ya but nobody says anything of substance. The deepest I’ve heard anyone go recently is “shock change” and in the past I’ve heard “softer” maybe but never much more.
I’d love it if the riders would say like “yeah actually we are experimenting with different shock shafts because I’m not getting the rebound feel I like. What I want is _____ but currently it’s _____”
I can guarantee you that 95% of the riders have no idea of specific changes made on their bikes...
Absolutely, it's like common sense skipped a few people on here lol
One difference is that in other sports, the players don't sign contracts with new teams while they are still playing for the old team.
However, what difference does it make for teams/riders to acknowledge that they've signed a contract for the upcoming season? It's already awkward for Tomac to be racing on Yamaha when all signs point to him being on a different team (probably KTM) next year. Would it really be any more awkward if that was publicly confirmed?
I thought it was great. I say ask whatever you want. They can choose to answer or not.
Moto needs to relax and not be so damn stiff! Stick and ball sports media could teach our media A LOT.
Post a reply to: Hopper, you are my hero! Loved this question!
