But yeah, he's going up against a stacked field, including probably the fastest kid on the planet, in a completely new series, on a new bike, coming back from injury, and he's never been amazing at riding out of his comfort zone (2024 MXDN for example, he wasn't competitive at all).I still think he'll come good and be a podium guy at some point this year, and a threat for moto wins next year
Did you watch MXGP last year? Or when he just got into the 450s class he was probably the fastest guy out there before getting covid, which was a huge setback. Last year he was the fastest MXGP rider we have seen since Herlings 2018 imo. Last year he literally came from behind multiple times and then dropped everyone. But it's a new challenge now, specially with a new bike, that's for sure

I just think he's a few % off of peak Cairoli and Herlings, even at his best, and that he isn't the sort of guy to risk eating shit and ruining his season if he isn't comfortable in the first moto of the season. Again, I still think he's a podium guy by the midway point of the season

Yes, people think he because was winning supercross that he was gelling well with the bike and would be crazy to leave, when it was obvious he was never happy with it and was just that much better than the competition.
