When something bad like this happens to a moto guy do any of the former moto guys that have been through this reach out (Button, Fonseca, Nelson, Bailey for example)? It seems like it would be something mentally helpful to have someone that's had the same experience of racer to chair for some support and how they've gotten through as not everyone can really understand what they're going through.

Thankfully lots of old pros in this situation do reach out. I shattered my C5 and was paralyzed from the neck down. One of the first people to reach out to me was a hero of mine, Doug Henry. He also reached out to two other paralyzed Wisconsin MXers who are buddies of mine and really helped them. Mike Young goes above and beyond in this regard as well. If it wasn’t for him and road 2 recovery I’m not sure if I’d still be around. I also got a call from Ken Roczen while laid up in the ICU and it was extremely motivating. He talked about his gnarly arm injures and shared some podcasts that help him stay positive and focused. As with any struggle in life, sometimes having someone to talk to who has been in your shoes can be life changing. I’ve reached out to Jerry if he ever needed to talk or anything. But from my experience it takes a while to process before you’re even ready to talk. With my situation I had a miraculous turn of events and I’m back on my feet so when he’s ready I hope Jerry and I can talk and if nothing else, my situation can give him some hope. We all know this is one of the worst parts about this sport but I’ve been in lots of SCI groups and it seems about 95% of SCIs happen in auto accidents. Not that it changes anything or helps currently, but at least this happened to Jerry doing what he loves, and at the highest level also. Keep praying and commenting on his socials. Every day after therapy and before I could move my arms or use a phone my wife would read me the comments from the day on IG and it gave me some light in otherwise dark days.

Great point Phil and I'll mention that to him.

Matt Buyten also reached out and I'm sure they'll talk soon too.

We've only texted a little bit since the incident and I know he's exhausted, in pain and overwhelmed and we'll chat when he's ready.

The amount of support has been unreal. The R2R is now up to 116k as of this post!

I'm seeing JR77 t-shirts and hoodies for sale all over IG and plenty of one off fundraisers as well.

ML512 has a huge auction coming up soon too and there will be some amazing items to bid on. (wait till you see this one!)

Keep praying for Jerry, Chad Saultz, Buyten, Adler Caudle and all the recent injuries that I may be forgetting.

Many of you know I love this sport more than anything, but man this is getting old and it's also making me sick to my stomach.

im not sure if you guys know or play the video game MX Simulator but the pro race for Pittsburgh was yesterday and Kellen Brauer is the person streams and commentates it. Kellen is close to Jerry and during the stream we raised around 4000 USD that will go directly to him today.

Kellen wanted to do it because Go Fund Me and Road 2 Recovery doesn’t immediately get the money to Jerry, so it helped him pay for hospital food, bills and other things since they cant work.

Jerry called in just before the 450 Main and talked to the stream. (he used to be a pro around 2015) its pretty cool to see such a small MX Simulator community come together and help a old friend out.

Per usual the moto community becomes a huge family and helps one another out. Love to see it.  Keep going Jerry

I hope some are in his ear slowly about moving the needle to what to do next for income. It’s a ton on his plate right now but it does need to be thought about. Took me 2 years to recover and find something that would work (trading). Stay strong 💪🏻

Did they mention Jerry at all on the broadcast yesterday, or give a QR code/link to his R2R? Would be sucky if they didn’t and couldn’t imagine if a NFL player got paralyzed at a game that the tv crew wouldn’t mention him at the next game.

If I heard it correctly believe Leigh Diffey said he visited Jerry Robin at the hospital. If that's the case pretty standup by the guy.

That’s pretty cool of him, glad his name got out there on the broadcast.

Jerry, I hope you read this. You’ve been one of my favorite riders for a couple of years now. You always will be. Hang tough. I know you have it in you. We all love you very much.

So Mathes and JT said his spinal cord is intact. Does that mean eventually he'll get feeling back? Can you be paralyzed if your spinal cord is intact?

He has some of the bone fragments from his spine in his spinal cord, some were able to be removed, some weren’t. I’ve been praying that he can walk again eventually.

It’s possible, but the odds may not be that high. Some posters on here with similar injuries never got movement or feeling back. Sorry I can’t recall which ones and I don’t want to get it wrong.

My buddy got paralyzed from chest down and he had fractures that had to be fused but doctors said they can’t see anywhere the cord is damaged. That was three years ago. I just don’t think doctors know yet about if or when someone will get the feeling back. We were really excited and hopefully when the  doctors said the spinal cord appeared to be good.

The spinal cord being "intact" just means it wasn't severed. The only real difference is being what's called a "complete" or "incomplete" paralysis.  "Complete" where the cord is severed is like taking an electrical wire and cutting it in half. The bottom end receives no signals from the brain whatsoever. Your legs go fully limp, no muscle spasms or feeling of any kind.  "Incomplete" typically means the cord hasn't been cut in half but can still be damaged. For example in my case my injury is almost identical to Jerry's where my cord is fully intact but bone fragments from the broken vertebra made tiny little cuts against the spinal cord and became embedded in the cord.  This causes the nerves to be permanently damaged (the spinal cord is not able to heal itself like most other areas of the body) and causes the paralysis.  Since my cord wasn't severed, signals are still able to go from my brain to my legs which is why I have constant leg spasms, bladder spasms, and I can feel extreme temperature changes.  Technically, I'm considered an "incomplete" SCI since my cord wasn't severed, however I'm not able to walk at all or feel anything below the waist like normal.

If it was only swelling that put pressure on his spinal cord causing the paralysis then he would have a much better chance of regaining feeling & movement once the swelling went away & as long as the swelling itself didn't cause any damage to the cord. This is what happens when you hear about someone who was paralyzed but began to walk again months or a year later. The swelling went away taking pressure off the cord and no damage was done to the cord. However, since he had bone fragments that made tiny cuts into his spinal cord and some are apparently still embedded in his spinal cord, I hate to say this but his chances of ever walking or feeling again are virtually zero. Without somehow "healing" the spinal cord it will never heal on it's own. This is where things like Stem Cells come into play as they have the ability to manufacture that healing process, however there has been very little actual research & practice into that. Much of if is politics (the moral issue of using human stem cells & where they come from) as well as funding. The sad truth is that SCI's are not top of mind as things like Cancer, Autism, AIDS, HIV, etc. There is no "SCI awareness month". Once Christopher Reeves passed everyone seems to have forgotten about SCI's in the public light.  I have tried every experimental treatment & surgery available, almost all out of pocket since insurance won't touch anything that isn't FDA approved, and 24 yrs later I'm still where I started.  The only real hope we have going forward is Neurolink with what Elon Musk is doing. That actually shows some real promise for the future but currently they're only accepting people with severe quadriplegia cases.

I stinking hate this happened. It's been on my mind a lot. I watched the crash a few times yesterday just wishing he would have gotten kicked and hit the ground any other way. It was such a strange wreck. Sad

I'm no doctor and I know nothing about spinal cord injuries but I feel pretty encouraged with his progress he's been sharing. Am I wrong or is he making gains that many thought would be unlikely at best?
