1983 supercross champ is monster energy supercross champion now.

Should it be that way?

They always do weird shit like this. When SMX started and the entire broadcast was about hyping it up, they called RC a 15x SMX champion. Um....no.

You know it’s bullshit, we know it’s bullshit, they know it’s bullshit.
But are they gonna keep doing it? Yup.

As long as they are pumping money into the sport they can call it whatever they want as far as I am concerned.

I know it sounds weird, but IF its in the current contract that on the broadcast when referring to any year of the SX Series it must be mentioned that way, then yes, they should claim every SX event ever.

Just wondering why people downvote without a response. Those are the children.

As far as the topic goes. I think monster would be better off paying homage to what came before them.

If they wanted to add some genuine respect to the sport.

You aren't wrong. There are trolls that downvote everything. They have no life. You just got a laugh about it though.

Camel Supercross brings back such great memories!

Yeah, it's in the contract. Of course. But is it a good contractual clause?

Just a way to simplify things. AMA Wrangler Super Series sounds like a different sport.

The concept of a title sponsor is pretty funny to begin with when it’s an AMA sanctioned event.

you don’t hear about a
Rockstar energy F1 Series

(****Nascar has title sponsors)

Monster energy pours so much money into the sport that I am both thankful and bummed that they’re the first words out of your mouth in reference to the series.  I’d love for them to stay at their current level of involvement but honestly peoples perception of the Monster brand is not great.  The internet is filled with Monster energy memes and they’re not referencing how cool the people who drink them are.

I think the energy drink thing has both helped us immensely and created a ceiling for people’s perception of our sport.  They see us in the same rhealm as monster trucks.

NASCAR had the Winston Cup Series and the Nextel Cup.  It’s been done before. Now they have the Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series.

yeah,

nascar would never call it winston cup, sprint cup, xfinity cup or monster cup.

as far as the smx thing, I doubt mr pibb and wrangler are going to be sending cease and desist letters anytime soon.

Tough question to answer but seems really strange that they could do that.

In sports franchises like NHL for instance, when a team moves to a different city like the Winnepeg Jets did down to Pheonix at the time, along with the team went ALL their records and heritage.  So basically the top player they ever had and is a Jet through and through became a Coyote. Changed ownership but super strange!  Just feel like what you are saying is similar is all.

Yep - the Mr Pibb swag guy was next level! when you rolled your bike thru tech -  t's - towels - sippie cups - n ice etc at the Atl Ga. national. I think they had a bonus too.  King Kelly probably had in the contract...

I feel like monster has been involved with the sport at a high dollar amount for a good 20 years now.   Time flies.

I downvote anyone who says to downvote them in their post because they asked for it. Otherwise, I don't care enough to downvote even if I completely disagree with the comment.

On topic, my earliest memories include being in a Yamaha shop with my dad in the early 80s and a YZ on the floor with a denim seat cover and a Wrangler patch on it. Don't know if Yamaha sold them that way or it was custom made by that shop but I thought it was bad ass and I didn't even know at the time it was the Wrangler SX series.

With that said, i have respect for anyone with a dissenting opinion, not pussies that hide behind a click.

I was just making a general statement on that topic as my morning coffee kicks in. I didn't smash the thumbs down on you since you didn't ask for it. Being a Gen X I remember Wrangler(barely) and Camel, EA Sports, etc, and the trend to call it all "Monster" doesn't sit well with me, but I see it as par for the course from a circus promotion company

People downvote without responding because the topic is stupid. They have been the title sponsor of the series for nearly 20 years. For the sake of simplicity and promotion they call it Monster Energy Supercross. As far as the SMX, once again they are trying to promote the new mini series. I thought we wanted to watch the racing on Saturday and not listen to them explain that RC was EA Sports Supercross Champion, as if it changes anything.

I am befuddled by someone who is letting a number by a thumbs down icon having an effect on their emotional state other than pondering a real reason why.

And there in lies the rub. Should they call the champions from the 80s or whenever the monster energy champions

I think it's an honest question, whether they have been pouring money into the sport or not
