But what is “it.” Most of us aren’t complaining about them taking their time developing the bike. We’re annoyed because we don’t even know what it is. We’re waiting for a smidge of information because lots of us are in the market for a new bike. We’re waiting for an announcement of what it actually is, and it may not even be what some of us are in the market for. For me personally, if it’s a 125 I won’t want to buy it. If it’s a 250/300 I probably will because that’s what I’m in the market for. If they just come out and say it’s gonna be a 125 MX bike then great, I’ll be happy for those who want that bike and I’ll be excited to ride one but I won’t want to buy it. If they come out and say it’s gonna be a 250/300, then I have absolutely no problem waiting another year to buy a bike. I’ll wait for it and be excited for it. Some of us are just waiting in limbo on what to do. I planned on having a new 300 late winter/early spring but have put that on hold waiting to see what Kawi was going to do.

if your timeframe for new bike is a year- why not buy 1 of the great choices already available now instead of denying yourself the riding fun all that time? If it turns out the Kawi is something you wanted, trade/sell the placeholder bike for the new Kawi. If it's not a model you wanted no massive disappointment you wasted a year waiting on it. Not dirtbike specific, but that's approach I took buying a new small truck couple years ago. Bought a new 2022 Ford Maverick from local dealer when they 1st came out (Knowing I really wanted a new Ranger in extended cab + long bed config) and sales guy said they would gladly take it back in trade for new Ranger if I wanted. I ordered the Ranger and after a year waiting it was clear they only offered Crew cab + short bed I didn't want so cancelled the order and went and bought Frontier King cab instead. Same Ford dealer bought back the Maverick for just a couple hundred $ less than I paid so it worked out great overall. My 2 cents...

My timeframe isn’t really a year. I planned on buying one late winter/early spring this year. I put that on hold because of the Kawi “announcement”.

I don’t want to buy a new bike now then trade it in if/when Kawi decides to release their bike. To spend $11k+ on a new bike right now, sell it in say 6 months- a year for $7k, buy a new Kawi for another $11k (presumably of course) would be a complete waste of money.

2022 was a totally different time as far as resale values on about anything. You got a great return value on your truck because the Maverick was highly sought after and hard to find. Just like KTMs were at that same time, hard to find new, dealers asking crazy prices for them and used bike prices were through the roof. The market isn’t nearly as comparable right now.

I personally find companies that do this “teaser” marketing strategy annoying. If you are going to build it just announce it when it is ready. Don’t waste people’s time. It’s lame to do so imo.

I will say in my experience it’s rare to find someone that’s good at marketing. Steve Jobs was great at it. He was also smart enough not to come out and say “maybe we build a phone”…. He just did it and showed it. Hyped it when he did show it…. But didn’t tease months before showing it. Just do it for gods sakes.

Kawasaki just took that approach with their new category of vehicle the new NAV. No one, not even the Kawasaki sales force new about the NAV until about 30 days before the Global launch in February.  Right after that event dealers were able to order and they are now on showroom floors. They started working on the NAV project in 2021.

They are not creating a new category with the 2 stroke. It's a total different marketing plan obviously.

I know it's frustrating for some of you, but with the 2 stroke it's going to be worth the wait. It's been close to 20 years since they offered an adult sized 2 stroke. A few more months is just a blip of the throttle. It will be here before you know it.

If I was a betting man, I would bet its a 300 electric start fuel injected woods racer, that will work very well on a MX track too.

I'm not saying that I think Kawi is killing it with their strategy on this one but... most engineers don't have a damn clue how and why marketing works and they should stay in their lane as well.

I tend to agree with @agn5008 that they are costing themselves future sales by not at least saying what the bike is.

Awful marketing 101:

1.Promise something but don't define it -get everyone hoping it is what they think they personally want. By definition, most will end up disappointed because it's something else, Irrespective of whether  the product is actually any good.

2. Take so long between announcement and product availability that people lose interest and move on to the next big thing.

3. Either hype the product so much, (or release so few details that speculation and desire over-hypes it) that the actual product, however good, is inevitably inferior to the hype.

Congrats Kawa, you score 3/3. Stop letting college kids run your marketing campaigns

Whatever this thing is, it will need to be stand out good in it's class to succeed. Chances are high that won't happen. Hope I'm wrong.

Feelings still hurt 'eh?  Maybe try to toughen up just a little bit OR if you can't handle any comments that don't agree with you.... go away.

YOU made yourself look stupid in the case polishing posts.  Every single person here agrees with that, you aren't a victim.  Either get over it or stop posting here cause it's annoying as fuck that you cry like a baby about it every time I respond to one of your posts.

Can we move on now?  Are you capable?

Good buddy of mine ran marketing at JNPR, CISCO, Broadcom (when Henry ran it) and FTNT. He has a Geology Degree.

Highly doubt it, actually I'm going to say flat out "NOT"

Years ago I was told by a Big wig from Honda that they had a formula where they would not invest in new model developement unless they're convinced they could sell 200k units a year.

Now that number may or may not have changed for better or worse, but with what's going on in the global economy today I'm going to bet.... Hell no!

There are too many cost hurdles to get over with epa, euro 5, tooling, materials, supply chain issue, now add tarrifs.

And to add, Fantic is bringing in their 300 which was largely based off the yz.

Prior, Fantic and Yamaha had an agreement that Fantic could not sell in the US, so what has changed?

Has Yamaha given Fantic the green light since that have no plans to develop the X, in any case it's another bike/brand to compete against for sales.

I think Yamaha is happy with the X as is.

If Kawi actually makes a 300 model then Yamaha is going to take a serious hurting on 250x sales.

Very good insight, I’m just thinking about their footprint getting bigger in the off-road market. If plus I would rather have a blue 300 than a green or orange haha

Agreed, I'd expect it to be a heavy Hi-Tech 300. Which is nothing like what true smokers desire. Like with my 300SX, I see this as giving me something that sits between 2t and 4t. Not bueno to jump on the 1st year, it's a mess to wait for Tuners to get up to speed.

In your #2 point, your saying that people will lose interest and move on to the next big thing? I don't think the 2 stroke crowd will lose interest in 2 strokes and move on to the next big thing which is electric. With over 15 million views on this teaser across Kawi platforms, even if the conversion rate is 1% it will be a HUGE success. Time will tell...

I would have bought a Kawi 250 or 300 in a heartbeat. Even if it wasn’t going to be available for another year or whatever I would have been putting a down payment down as soon as allowed. But with the way they’ve handled this whole “release” I highly doubt I’ll wait and buy one. I’ll probably just go buy a beta RE and forget about the Kawi. I don’t think they realize how much damage they’re doing by pissing actual customers off like this. Not dorks who sit behind a keyboard and complain about everything. Actual customers who buy actual dirt bikes every 1-2 years. Me personally, I’ll probably give them til the end of May to release some actual information. If that doesn’t happen then I’m gonna go buy a Beta.

There's probably a "Beta" joke to be made here.

Meanwhile, Beta is quickly becoming the viable alternative. Of course, the YZ125 is the best for smaller guys like me, but I can’t see a reason not to buy a Beta 200RR.

Or bigger guys, a YZ250 (w/ flywheel wt.) or a Beta 300RR.

Pretty sure yall’ve seen this. Fantic bringing the XC300 stateside. The motor sounds over complicated, but it’s still a 300 2-stroke.

Kawi will be playing catch-up

Kind of obvious Kawi is playing catch up after not making a full size 2 stroke for 20 years, no?

Is it just me or did Kawi drop this hint of a new 2smoker reveal and then completely left the world "on hold" for WAY too long about it???   Kinda stupid to stir the pot and then say absolutely nothing for months.  It's like they were testing the waters to see if there was any interest in it...  Which, I've officially lost interest in it now.

Actually, what would be amusing if Kawi did a collaboration with Yamaha and released  a green YZ125 / 250, and that was the bike we've all been anticipating.
