Great actually.  Knee was a mess for a long time so getting range of motion back will take a while.   But it feels amazing with how stable it is, not popping out of joint whenever I twist.

And I can sleep! It’s been about a year since I could do that.

If he's forcefully removed, the US can say goodbye to foreign investment, US shares, bonds and the dollar will dive.

If the private sector actually could help those in need, cool. They can’t though. It’s not feasible. Food drives sure. But housing. Groceries. Transportation to school. Etc. That just isn’t sustainable to do through private charities. Nor should it be. Because it could dry up at any moment. Taxpayer funded systems in place to make sure lower income people have the means to improve their lives is essential to any society. And yes that means going beyond just local taxes.

Under 18 I think would be an amazing start. Let’s at least take care of the children and make sure parents don’t have to decide whether their child should go get medical care or not because they can’t afford it.

He unfortunately does not bring strength. He gives childish nick names to every Republican who tried to primary him and every Democrat he’s faced in the general. He did the same for many of our allies and their leaders. But never has done so for Putin or Orban. Strange. Wonder why. He claimed he could end the war with one phone call but now is supposedly powerless to bring back a wrongfully deported person from one of the worst prisons in the world. He’s not a good leader in any way. That has nothing to do with any political policy.

In your opinion, is the current government implementation of welfare going well? If not, how many decades will it take to get there, and how many taxpayer dollars?

Let's take Habitat for Humanity as an example. Only ¼ of their funding comes from the government. The rest is private sector. The average American has to work 90 days just to pay their taxes. Reduce that tax burden by ⅓ and the average American gets 30 days of their pay added to discretionary income. That could go a long way in benefiting the economy, charity, etc. Local organizations could far better serve the local needs than a large government entity. The percentage of people on welfare has increased over time, which goes against the inherent promise that welfare would improve the lives of those on it. It seems instead all it does is keep them at a certain level. Local organizations also provide more models that would help forge a better understanding of what elements of those models work well and can be implemented by others. This is not an option for the megalithic structure currently in place. Government welfare also dilutes the local economic impact of haphazard, irresponsible politics. Take Seattle for example, where possession of drugs was largely decriminalized. This led to a big homeless problem, and accompanying rises in crime. If the local citizens were responsible for the welfare of those people, how long would they have tolerated a huge increase in local taxes? That did not happen, because the money came from all taxpayers. To your point about funding drying up, that is a danger of all types of funding. I prefer we move from “someone should do something” to “I (or we) should do something”.

There is also the matter of the Democrat party continually using welfare as the carrot to keep those votes coming to their party, but hopefully we have begun to see that change.

I prefer your limitation of taxpayer funded healthcare for children under 18 better than what I stated, which was 18 and under. However, adults (18 and over) should be responsible for their health and healthcare.

I'll hold off on responding to your third paragraph for now due to the length of my response for the first. In Wankernomics speak - “Let's put a pin in that and circle back to it at a later time” 🙂

Good time to buy for future generations. Sucks for anyone with a 401k trying to retire in the next few years.

Gold is has done really well since December.

Aren't 401k's long term investments that are not usually cashed out at once, but periodically over time?

Not that it really matters. Russia flexing over Iran has totally fucked them…even in the Ukraine. Donald offered a handshake and they flexed.

Hey, Russia? Good luck with that.

Hey Manny,  With all your posts on this subject, you must be a leading economist or an international trade expert, since you so boldly contradict the consensus among the leading economists and business leaders in this country. Either that or you’re just a self-appointed apologist for DJT.

Having sanctions on a country does not mean all trade has stopped between countries. The US has had sanctions on both Russia and Iran for a while, but at the end of last year I approved shipments of cancer drugs to both countries. They were expensive and not free, so trade with Russia still exists  So if you had done your homework, you would have seen your argument about sanctions as the reason for Russia not being list in DJT’s tariff list doesn’t hold because they listed tariffs against Iran, where we also have sanctions. So yes, Russia is glaringly excluded from the list.

Your argument about all the factory jobs coming back to the US is also laughable and the reason why has been discussed for decades. You would understand the reason had you done any true research.  It is the natural evolution of a wealthy economy and the US has one of the highest purchase-power-parity adjusted GDP per capita’s in the world. The economic generators in the US, and essentially all wealthy developed economies, now comes from higher value-added activities and not factory work. Unlike 50-70 years ago, when factory work provided a good income along with perks to support a middle-class lifestyle, today’s US workers will no longer be satisfied with a factory job and certainly can’t compete with workers in low income countries who will work long days, 6 days a week for very low wages and no benefits. It doesn’t make any sense for US workers or US companies. But that is not even the whole story.. automation is increasing at a rapid pace so workers even in low income countries will also soon be out of a factory job. It has been discussed for decades and the progress of automation is increasing quickly. The whole idea of bringing factory jobs back to the US is completely bonkers.

The idea, that you have swallowed hook, line and sinker, that we need to suffer a little now for bigger rewards later is utterly false. We were at the top of the global heap in terms of wealth and influence right up until January, with the main problem that the wealth was not being shared with the other 99.5% of the population, but instead DJT just flushed all that down the toilet in just weeks, and no this not the art of negotiation or 4-D chess as you might claim!

The trade attacks and threats of annexation of sovereign countries has turned the world against us. Our former allies and trading partners have taken US goods off their shelves, their consumers are boycotting US products and huge contracts with US companies like Boeing have just been cancelled. China played DJT just like a fiddle and DJT’s actions have elevated China’s influence in the world, even giving them the moral high ground, which is almost unbelievable. No new deals are being made with the US.  Our trading partners will not suffer like we will from our polies… they are just replacing US trade with trade with other countries. They will be eating more Australian beef instead of US beef. That’s all.  There is only one real loser here, the US. Instead our new allies are Russia and Israel and we made the rest of the world our enemies. On what planet is that a smart move?  This is a lose-lose situation.. our domestic prices will sky rocket, our global trade is diminished significantly, the US dollar will no longer have the strength it has enjoyed for so long, no new jobs are coming to the US and conversely, US companies will have to fire many more people for the reasons I just listed. DJT has also made the US a pariah country.. no one wants to deal with us anymore and we no longer can be trusted or have credibility in this world, so no new deals are coming.

So go ahead, preach the same sound bites that politicians have planted in your brain, contradict the economic and policy experts because you think you are smarter than them, but please also take ownership of what is happening to this country because history will not forget you and all the other sycophants that have supported the amazingly quick destruction of a leading economy.

Very good post, but unfortunately it won't be heard. This discussion shows that expert opinions, facts, rules as well as the truth don't matter anymore.

And it will become worse. Targeting media, deporting people, forcing educational institutions to align with the political agenda is germany 1933.

Exactly what this guy says, no one wants to have much to do with the unstable usa right now. How much is the u.s. taxpayer going to be on the hook for lack of soybean/beef sales. What does China do with its profits? Invest in their country while in the u.s. it’s buy back stocks and give the CEO’s huge bonuses. How delusional do you have to be to think China is going to call after the couch fucker called them peasants ? How many countries have a travel warning about going to the usa? Think about that, travel warnings about going to the usa, a supposedly 1st world country. Manitoba just cancelled renewing a 500 megawatt power deal going into the u.s. Your country is going to be isolated all because you fools want to own the libs.

While I do feel that you shouldn't poke fun at people who lack intelligence or have less knowledge on a subject, but with your complete inability to defend any of your delusional claims and reveling in the fact that we have split off from the rest of the world to join ranks with Russia, with the rest of the developed world now warning it's citizens against even traveling to the US, I just have to say you are a complete ** MORON ** and you are so proud of it.

Because this place is bizzaro land at the moment...as in "unstable".  We used to warn our folks about traveling to unstable places...not sure if that dept is still staffed.

I most certainly tip my hat to your incredible bike build skills TT.

You're also no dummy but imo you lost credibility when you came out as a covid "absolutist" as I recall you were pushing the Vax hard and didn't really leave room for other points of view.

In hindsight you were wrong as the wet market BS, lock everything down and jab infants to the elderly routine is now shown to be an over reaction.

Imo You're doing it again in this thread albeit eloquently and then you resorted to name calling.

We're all here sharing opinion  and  while i welcome yours I would suggest maybe backing off the absolutist thing as it doesn't leave room for civil discourse.

Tell me how other nations tariffs on U.S. goods promoted free trade?
