I like Cole Davies and all ...but his replies to the press conference questions are less than informative, lol.
Question: Cole you've been riding great , have you been doing anything different when it comes to training. What can you tell us about your training program?
Cole : Yeah, I train a lot and I think it's paying off.

It truly is insane. I drive a modestly lifted truck (like many on here do I'm sure) plus I drive about 50,000 miles a year for work. Everyone is on their damn phone while driving, many are face timing or watching videos of some sort. Anytime you see a car in the passing (left lane) with a big space cushion and a little bit of drift right to left, rest assured they are on their fucking phone face timing or watching videos. It's an epidemic. Amazing how much cool technology is out there, but the phone companies haven't figured out a way to get people off their phones while driving.

But what I found to be just as annoying is the Deegs way of giving flippant snarky replies and thinking he's being funny. Top that off with him making that weird high pitched Michael Jackson chirpy noise after he makes a snarky reply. Almost sounds like Tourette's noise... WTF is that?
Have really tried to be a fan , but he keeps reminding me why I'm not.

Just talking to my friends in Moto, the ones that were fans of Deegan are slowly becoming unimpressed with how he acts. I don’t think he’s very entitled, as to be as fast as anyone in the main event you have to put in a SERIOUS amount of work and dedication but they take his actions as entitlement and it rubs them the wrong the way.
I’m also of the opinion you don’t need to peep your phone during the PC but be honest, that was an 8 second moment. Still not ultra classy, but that’s far different from what Deegan was doing

If sponsors and teams truly wanted to grow the sport, they would spend a few hours a week sitting these riders down with some professionals and train on interview techniques. Most of these young men give terrible interviews along with having terrible habits and would greatly benefit from some training. The teams spend major amounts on on-track training and bike costs but seem unwillingly to spend on something that would make their organization look more professional that might help bring in new sponsors. What company wants to spend money sponsoring some organization that has employees that don't exemplify professionalism? I guess the answer is Monster, what happens when they leave?

That’s great and all but let’s place some light on this a bit and see if you feel the same. 17 year old rookie from a small country, on a large stage. He was able to accomplish the action instead of just talking about doing it.
His ability to not overthink and simply do, is a strength right now. As he matures and becomes more comfortable, no doubt you will see him speak more candidly about the ins and outs.
One would think he is just pumped to be there, and is told to workout a certain way, do X laps, so on so forth. He is still figuring it all out. So in a in depth answer may not be available.
It's not just about the press conference. I think it's unprofessional/disrespectful. It doesn't matter if it's a business meeting, having dinner, out on a date, having a conversation, etc.; put your phone away for the time being.
It's not hard.
Deegan could take a shit on your front door step and you would still defend him.
I agree Mav. To me it comes down to respect for your situation and class. Now they could both be late because the team de brief what have not. Not sure.
But when it comes down to handling yourself in a professional manner, different story altogether.

Correct. I saw the pic of Deegan on his phone so I was critical of him. Any rider, 250 or 450, should be able to stay off their damn phone for a whole 15min press conference. Instagram ain't going nowhere.
It's funny when everyone is like "Haiden is just a kid, what you never did something stupid when you were a kid??" Davies and Drew Adams are two years younger than Haiden, Juju is a year younger, and those three are WAY more mature. And yeah, I did stupid stuff when I was a kid, but I consider my "kid" years to be when I was 15. Anyways, Deegan's probably just pissy because Cole has half his amount of career SX wins in less than a third of the gate drops.
I too scroll on my phone during the press conference because it’s the same damn questions by the same damn people every week.

For the record...I hate the phone "pacifier" thing too. It's a societal pandemic now. Look in the mirror and look at your own kids.
The immaturity showed mostly when Haiden gave props to Cole, then later in the post-race conference said the race should be red flagged for rider safety and wished his teammate well.

Outdoors Deegan is a beast and one of my favorite riders to watch. But as soon as the helmet is off, I’m looking for something else.
If Cole steps up outdoors and can run with Deegan a bit, the Deeg Bro’s are going to lose their collective minds.

Lots of talk about Deegan on his phone. But Davies was on his too quite a bit. Maybe they were texting each other? At one point they were both on their phones while RJ was answering a question. I think this an age thing and unfortunately don’t see it going away.
When I'm driving my RV, its big rig level and I'm able to see a lot of what's going on in cars. Years ago it used to be a lot of people pleasuring themselves, now there is a scary amount of people that are on their phones while on the highway. And even in front of my house. I'm at the base of a small hill, speed limit is 45mph. So people are sometimes going faster. But its one of those roads that the speed limit makes sense and Your not really wishing it was higher. Well anyway, there is a road across from me. And so many accidents have happened that I've been able to see. I'll be looking at the road, and a line of cars is coming , one stops to take the left. The one right behind stops short , but most often stops intime. Then the third vehicle inline is also not paying attention like the #2 . But they have even less time to react than the #2 car. So by the time they realize they have to stop. They are slamming into the #2 car, often pushing it into the # 3 car. Cell phones flying as they crash.
I agree they should put the phones away , unless relevant to the press question somehow. Or some sort of family emergency type situation .. The being late part, since both riders that were late are on the same team, it could have been a team thing that delayed them. If it was for no reason at all, than that is bad. But without knowing why they were late, I think they should get the benefit of the doubt. How funny would it be if we found out the reason for being late was that they were in a team meeting with the PR person going over talking points for the press conference?
I know that in the recent past, teams did send guys to PR people to teach them how to speak and act. I think that the result was the robot interview's with a list of sponsors and no real answers to questions asked while they were on the podiums. Then fans asking for more "real personalities " perhaps has made the teams rethink that. And what we have now is the result. Or perhaps they have PR people helping the racers amplify their true personalities , and not trying to polish them into robots ? I think its a good idea to have them get help with public speaking .
my 19y old doesn't own a phone. Is it cause I won't give him one? Nope - must have given him 10. He simply hates it. Loses 'em everywhere and is more satisfied to just bum a friend's phone to call when he needs to. Yes, he's crazy smart and not "abnormal" in any way other than this. I have said for years that if I can keep him out of prison, he'll be President. Kids are all super diff. That said, I'd have smacked my kid upside the head for sitting in a press conference looking at his stupid ass phone.

cole and haiden were both late,
multiple top guys have been late in the past
both looked at their phones at some point
haiden straight up passed him in the heat and dropped it from 5.2 to 1.2sec gap with less then 3 mins left in the main, seems reasonable to think he might have passed him had 5 more mins been on the clock.

I'm not saying this is why they were late but guys have said more than once they were late because they had to pee for a drug test and it took a minute.....
