I am surprised they have not landed a season as of yet. Who’s holding that show up?

First time I've heard of this. Is it going to be something like Drive to Survive?

A Netflix series on Supercross/Motocross, similar to Drive to Survive, would be an absolute game-changer for the sport. Bringing SX/MX into the mainstream, right into people’s living rooms, would massively boost exposure—not just for the riders and teams, but for the entire industry.

Think about what Drive to Survive did for Formula 1. It turned casual viewers into hardcore fans, attracted new sponsors, and helped the sport explode in markets where it previously struggled. The same thing could happen with SX/MX. More eyes on the sport mean bigger sponsorship deals, increased manufacturer interest, and—most importantly—more kids wanting to get into riding.

The drama, the rivalries, the behind-the-scenes grind—it’s all there in motocross and supercross, just waiting to be told in a compelling way. If Netflix (or any major streaming platform) pulls this off, it could elevate SX/MX to a whole new level.

Sx on Netflix like drive to survive will send the sport mainstream. I have no idea why it has not yet been done.

One word why it hasn’t/won’t happen: Feld. Unlike Liberty Media’s (F1) hunger ti dominate the world, IMO Feld is very happy with the status quo, and probably don’t want to draw too much attention from bigger sharks.

Is it just me or does it feel like this show is criminally underrated?

wow, what an obvious chatgpt text. Do people seriously need AI to generate ‘their own’ thoughts on a topic nowadays? lol

I’d be fine with that!! Then maybe the. Broadcast could realize they can actually show the racing and not try to make a drama documentary out of every race too!

With Unchained unfortunately being cancelled/discontinued I wonder if that opens up the opportunity for a replacement show [SX/MX] to fill in. Stays in the bike racing lane, and likely has a lot more storytelling to work off of with both seasons vs a single event.

Troy Adamitis has made a number of films and series in the same fashion in the last ten years or so. MX nation, Supercross: Behind the Dream, The Year of Jubilee, etc. Him and Bruce Brown have to be the top two filmmakers in the sport.

Though I don’t think having a show on Netflix will instantly launch our sport into the mainstream. People know motocross exists, they just don’t care about it.

How many average people scroll right past SX on peacock every Saturday?

I believe Prater has said in an interview they’re more than open to having this type of show happen and have been in some discussions about it but convincing the teams to allow cameras/microphones full access will be the biggest hurdle.

They currently don’t think they’re obligated to tell the media about riders’ injuries so I don’t know how we convince them that being mic’d up 24/7 is a good idea 😂

Am I the only one who DOESN'T want our sport to become mainstream.      Look at the shitshow other sports have become when big money gets involved.

Hard pass.

That's a good point.  As a fan, what benefit would there be for a more mainstream SX?  Yeah, for the riders it could lead to more money.  But would it be livable money to the privateers, or would it just be more money to the stars?

If it's done right, it could be great for the sport and bringing new eyes and exposure.

I've been a F1 fan since a child in the 80s, and when Drive to Survive first launched it was a great behind the scenes doco, especially for diehards like myself that love new info and the nitty gritty. I think I got 2 episodes into season 2 and turned it off. It went from a documentary to manufactured drama where the producers would cut and splice scenes and audio from different races and moments to create a false narrative. If you followed the sport closely, you knew it was garbage and fake, but new viewers were none the wiser.

It would be cool to have a behind the scenes doco series like the red bull YouTube series from a few years ago, just keep it authentic. If I see "co produced by Brian Deegan" , I'm out.

As someone mentioned previously, this series is grossly underrated. I was not familiar with it, but I’m very impressed.

A Netflix show doesn't inherently equate to mainstream success. Wouldn't the better perspective be that fans could get a major boost in behind the scenes access on a regular basis? If you wouldn't want the latter, that seems like a different discussion.

I should have bene more clear, I'm not against a show.    It's the calls for becoming "mainstream" I am against.         Look at the NFL, MLB, NBA, NASCAR....etc etc etc.         Big money ruins sports.

Also,  like other sports, it will drive the little guy/families on budgets out.....  bikes are already unaffordable, ticket prices are through the roof.

If you are afraid of SX/MX becoming as mainstream as the NFL, NBA, MLB etc. etc. you are even more out of touch with reality than I thought.

The sky isn't falling old man, it'll all be ok.

I don't necessarily care about growing the sport, but I wouldn't mind someone putting a nice polish on the perception of the sport.

I’m willing to believe Prater is a nice guy, but I don’t believe this. Blaming the teams is a red herring. The F1 teams don’t allow full access for DtS, so expecting it for SMX is unnecessary. I’m sure they talked about it at Feld, just as I’m sure if they felt it would benefit them, they would be pushing for it already.

Not going to push “our” sport mainstream. Seasons are too long, both for the athletes and general viewers. Having both Lawerence bros, Tomas and Prado out is along the lines of having Mahomes and Brady out at the same time. Sure it’s possible to have cool comeback stories about their grit and riding through injury, etc, etc but what does it do to casual viewership? I’m not shitting on the sport but we have 1/3-1/2 of our expected top 10 guys injured almost every year. Plus, very little in the realm of this is my home team to root for. I’d love to see the series if we could get it made and I’d love for our sport to grow but I don’t see it either happening or lasting if it does.

Tomac, sorry, missed that mistake

Having the Lawrences and Prado (and Tomac) out - is much worse than having Brady and Mahomes out.  When Brady and Mahomes are out, those teams keep playing.  They might even win some games.  Those fans still have something to root for.  If you are a Jett Lawrence fan, you have nothing to root for right now.
