You all forget Roger Decoster was smooth with 6 inches of suspension not 12 inches like all the other riders, a 500 cc 2 stroke engine ! ! ! Try to ride a bike like that today?

Of who I've seen it would be JMB and Stefan Everts.

I remember watching JMB, but I was only about 10 years old when he was winning his titles. Obviously he was technically very good but I don't recall him being especially smooth...

I was probably more concerned with the crazy paint job he had on his crash helmet at the time.

Marty Tripes.

At the Sears Point National in 78 or 79, Tripes demolished Hannah. The track was a
nearly impossible surface. Best described as millions of chunks of broken pavement covered by a slippery layer of straw. Add off cambers, multi elevation changes, giant whoops and you have a track that is going to separate great riders from good riders.

That track showed everyone just how well Tripes could handle a bike. Hannah's aggressive style didn't work well that day.
