From shifting in the air, to his epic Southwick ride in 2011, from last almost a lap down, to 7th (and landed on the podium), to a year later, again at Southwick, again the second moto. Crashed, spilt gas, pulled a 13 second lead, pulled in for a pitstop to refuel, and still won the overall after all that!

Incredible racer.

Every time it gets mentioned, I always say if Dungey rode his whole career as aggressively as he did in moto 2 at Southwick 2011, RV probably wouldn't have quite so many titles.

Sort of off topic, but, I never knew that daily motion had all the races from 2022, this is awesome, i can watch mxgp without paying a fortune, same for all the other races on there.

Just finding that out myself. Lots of older races.

Most underappreciated all time great ever. You’d go out there and win 4 races in a row and only gain 12 points on him. Then one bad race and he gains 10 on you to essentially negate it all. I think he’s remembered a lot differently if his chain doesn’t derail in 2011 SX and he doesn’t run out of gas with two laps left in 2011 MX.

Anyone who beat him in a championship had to sell their soul for it.  Must have been a PITA to race the diesel.

I remember seeing a vid of RV after THAT moto at Southwick, where it looked like he was expecting to be told he'd gotten a lot of points on him then he was told what Dungey had done and I swear you could see him say 'Oh for fuck sake' in his head haha I really wish I remembered where I saw it..

I think part of the lack of appreciation comes from the fact Dunge didn't look fast. RV was so aggressive on the bike that he looked fast, but Dunge was so smooth and calculated that he really didn't look like he was going as fast as he was.

I’m convinced Ryan Villopoto doesn’t feel pain. That makes the fact Dungey could even rise to his level completely brain breaking to think about

And let's not forget his, I think it's 32 straight podium streak in SX. That's almost 2 full seasons! Streak broke with a 4th, riding conservative so he could wrap up a title. Guy was a machine.

Couple DNFs away from both 2011 titles! He was close

The ktm held him back a couple years.   I think the later model ktm helped more than Aldon 2015 on

I would say he ranks up there with Carmicheal for outdoors.

Big Dungey fan, not a big RC fan... That's not true. He may be 2nd all time in bike bike wins outdoors, but RC is in a different league, sorry not sorry.

Don't forget that he retired for like half a decade and came back and was still fast as heck...

I think the perception of him is skewed because he was such a nice and polite guy but as soon as he was away from the camera, that dude was an absolute animal on the track.

RD5 was a great racer and even a nicer person off the bike. Just a real down to earth dude!

I am not a fan boy of any rider but I do appreciate and understand the work it takes. As badass as RD was, and there should be zero doubt how great he is, he is no where near RC for outdoors. RC's outdoor stats make no sense. 10 straight years undefeated for championships. 2 perfect seasons, another season winning all the overalls. Would have won his last 450 title when he retired halfway through with the points lead.

I remember FOX did an ad for him of his stats and his laps lead % was crazy. From memory he lead like 90+% of the laps i think.

To come back after several years off and run in the top five is quite an accomplishment also. No one else has ever done that.

Focus on the term "up there", not better, as good or close.

It was the only reason I took the long drive to go to a National. To see Dungey race one last time.

My first ever race as a fan was the last race of 2022, I knew he came out of retirement to race, kind of knew about him, sucks I still haven’t gotten to meet him.

I'm a big Dungey fan. I'd liked his smooth riding style and clean cut image.

I liked the relationship he had with DeCoster. Those two seemed to really respect each other. It was a  long fruitful relationship.

I would say ranks right there with anyone, except for RC. RC is truly in a  league of his own when it comes to outdoors. Not really close in my opinion. Saying anyone is "as good, or close" is just not correct based on the data. RCs out door numbers are like MC's indoors numbers. No one is even close.

RD5 went up against some stiff competition and held his own.Even though Alessi got the better of RV, you could tell from 85s that RV was going to do good, Dung came out of nowhere. He never gave up that’s for sure.

He's right there in the top 5-6-7 all timer list, just off moto rushmore.

Minni 13' is still the loudest race i've ever been to.
