I forgot he was making the same exact mistakes on his Honda.
Holeshot.
"To be continued" lol
He definitely has severe ADHD
He hasn’t made nearly as many mistakes/crashes on the ktm though, it seemed he tucked the front every race on the honda.
I'm a Sexton fan and I don't particularly like Ricky in the booth, but you can't blame Ricky for being hard on Sexton after watching that video. I didn't count, but he must have thrown away at least 15 wins since his move to the 450 class.
His KTM crashes are worse IMO. On the Honda it looked like he was just tip toeing the line of what he was capable of on the bike and washed out on occasion.
On the KTM he doesn’t look like he is even pushing that hard. Neither bike is at fault. Its 100% the riders mistakes. Even when his bike had issue, it was a result of him crashing and bikes not being indestructible.

And if you want to make a montage of Tomac's crashes during that time they're going to be much more exciting than Sexton's. Chase is doing fine. If he had all of those crashes riding around in 8th nobody would even notice. They're only noteworthy because he's so good and they mostly happen when he's in the spotlight up front.
Good thing tomac kept racing. Lot of years left in Chase's career too.
Also, if you want to talk about gifted championships, in 17 Eli beat musquin by 17 points and marv had mechanical DNF in a moto. Anderson was also in it but got hurt and didn't finish season. Baggett, Wilson, Seely were 3-5 in points in what was their best 450 season finish of their career for all 3 of them. Weak field I guess?
Excellent post, Truck.
Chase has elite level talent and speed.
Cruel.
It's even better than Brandon's first race.
altho factual , chase is also in a position where he still gotta deal with the vets in coop , Eli & Kenny , also with who suppose to be the next MC & RC in Jett & u still got the next gen coming with deegs & errybody below deegs
I've seen that movie before, it's called Groundhog day!
His speed puts him on the edge too much. Just like James Stewart did.
There’s no better spot to be in all of racing than second place with under 5 minutes left and Sexton leading. Thats a nearly guaranteed W.
I've noticed in his interviews he often has a "look it's a squirrel!" moment. I watched an interview that Stewie Griffin err I mean Lewis did with him and he is rubbing the microphone foam all around his mouth. Found that really odd. Other times he's just looking around like he's on shrooms or something. Incredibly talented, fit and fast but it seems his brain just goes off on its own sometimes.
Someone get Ryno on the horn to figure this all out.
I get downvoted for saying it, but that's ADHD.
To your point I think you wouldn't have a crash video of Eli that compares to Chase year by year. Eli had more of a comfort limitation and a few mechanicals at the wrong time.
Which actually speaks to how fast Chase is. With all of these crashes he keeps coming back as a threat to win in most races. Cooper or Eli will back and down and take what the race gives them if they aren't feeling it.
As much as Chase was hated on for winning 2023 SX championship with an asterisk because Eli went out with an injury, I believe he won because he kept getting up from those crashes and making his bad nights - not that bad. If he had pulled off or not rode through the pain maybe someone else would be SX champ that year instead of him.
Exactly. You can say anything about every championship pretty much. If Kenny didn’t crash in 17 , if Eli didn’t tear his Achilles in 23, if Villopoto didn’t crash in 2010, etc. the list goes on forever.
You gotta be in it to win it regardless. Chase is always there and fighting no matter what. He doesn’t get the respect he deserves. Imo
Pit Row
I don't want to really speculate on someones medical history, it doesn't feel appropriate. I will say though I have severe ADHD, I know I put a massive amount of pressure on myself to be perfect and extremely goal driven, if I fail a goal set ahead even if its impossible to achieve, even more so if its something hyper focused on. It cans lead impulsive, and potentially self destructive rage, or horrifically deep depression. Even if I recognize it as irrational. Not an excuse but a reasoning. Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria which tends to accompany ADHD and other neuro divergency is a hard thing to regulate even if your logical side tells you to be calm. Even while taking medication.
Theres times where that impulsive side can get you in deep trouble, or bring success. Another thing with ADHD people don't realize is as an adult it becomes much more internalized over the outward craziness as a child.
I'm putting this out there to let it be applied where you see fit.
Great analysis. I can relate. I'm not trying to be mean to Chase.
True. He’s maturing, growing, and learning… just not at the rate we expected!
Typical ADD. Lots of regular people turn to drugs to cure the itch. His focus is motocross but yeah when he’s not riding or surfing or working out, he looks bored.
He lost credibility to me when he said Levi Kitchen will never be an elite rider. Yet slurping down Forkner
James in 2023 outdoors was way more harsh on Chase than Ricky and the SX crew. I find it interesting Sexton has been crashing for half a decade in 450, it’s a great highlight reel to hear all 5 announcers. 😃
The amount of win and championship bonus $ forfeited from that 4 minutes of footage boggles the mind.
It's also amazing how few injuries Chase has had vs his competition, especially with all these crashes. The guy is durable.
Ricky probably likes him too. When someone crashes I don't care about, I analyze and wrote (write) about, if it was someone who I liked and knew he could be so much better it was a race coverage text with already an angle in it and sometimes I threw a column on it. Sometimes you just want them to realize that it isn't the bike, it isn't the showa, kyb, solva, ohlins suspension... It are them who make those damn faults.
Sexton is down!
He ain't learning, this is the fourth season he dirt samples.
I didn’t even realize… This is Chase’s 5th season on a 450. Feels like year 3 for some reason!
It was a great highlight reel to compare commentary announcers ala Ricky vs Daniel Blair
