Why can’t they post the race order ahead of time? They essentially post it during practice, and if where they post it is a 20 minute walk how are you supposed to get there during all the chaos?

Seems like such a dumb set up. Especially at big events where you know each class will have good turnouts what’s the actual thought of having to wait till after signups to post the order?

Any insight is appreciated

Because its a fine line seeing who signs up and trying to keep them from back to back motos.

Some events, like Daytona, do in fact post it way ahead of time, so you have to choose. Its a little smaller class list than most regular races and qualifiers tho.

They should be broadcasting on radio and loud speaker the second the race order is confirmed tho.

Why not just post the race order online..most races have live timing, so why not just add the race order.

I just don’t see how it’s so tricky.

Here’s the list from yesterday.

I put it in an order just with a dumb dirtbike racers idea of what wouldn’t conflict

25+
85 10-12
College boy 18-24
Schoolboy

30+
Minisr 13-15

65 7-9

40+
Open pro sport

450c

450b

50+
Supermini 13-16

250c

250b

65 10-11

45+

125jr 12-17

I put it in that order someone take a look, what could possibly conflict with that order?

This was also a Loretta’s qualifier so you are absolutely sure you’ll have reasonable turnout in each moto.

Worst case you combine some or tweak some but wouldn’t 99.99999999% this work for every Sunday qualifier schedule? None of those conflict to my small dumb brain.

It also depends on how many riders show up for which classes. If you have 20 show up for both college and schoolboy, that grouping now doesn't work and you have to re-org everything. It probably makes sense to have a loose framework like you posted, but until they get the final numbers they can't lock anything in.

The larger events that have field caps or are pre-reg only obviously solve this meaning they can do it all in advance.

Those are all individual motos idk why the spacing got like that, each line is its own moto, posting from a phone trying to solve problems nobody cares about lol

Dude thanks for the open mindedness and the feedback.

Just frustrating that everything has to be so complicated and at times like zero intelligence with local racing.

Smaller races or "local" races are harder than the larger events.  We make it even harder to build a schedule racing two tracks at the same time with 50 classes...  We have been running races for 10+ years so you would think we would have a sort of template that we could just re use, but I can promise you that is not the case.  There are millions of variables and every race depends on those variables that you don't have until registration closes.

The best solution would be to have everyone pre register.  We offer discounts to incentivize, but especially at some tracks people just sign up day of...  I wish it easier for promoters.  It's the single most complicated process of race day.

We’ve done the pre registration a few times, there’s a few cons to that unfortunately as well with extra fees, injury beforehand on practice day, or the fact the weather goes to shit and you decide to change your plans also. Yes I realize you can get refunds but that’s also a pain. I do think tracks posting up race order on their social is super helpful if they would.

Choose your pain.  Pay less/pre reg and get a refund or rain check if something comes up or wait until practice to get the race schedule...  The power is in the numbers of the racers and as promoters we try to do the best with what we are dealt.

Most of the time they don’t post the race order because they have to see who’s racing multiple classes. What ones have a smaller turnout that they can stager with another class and sometimes a dad could be racing one class and have his son racing one and they try not to have them back to back. But they don’t know if it would be like 30a and 4-6 50cc or plus 40 and 250c. That’s at least what the Disterect I race in does. And they figure all that out during practice. They just try to accommodate the best they can within reason. Also they can see what classes they can combine with two gate drops to save everyone time during the day. I get it’s frustrating not knowing the order. Some tracks I race have three schedules “a”, “b” and “c” so you can sign up accordingly.

NESC in New England does a pretty good job with a schedule of known race orders that rotates weekly…they might make some small adjustments but it pretty much runs true to what they have posted. If the regional is at Unadilla , just think of your experience as good practice for a bigger clown show…the one thing they are very proficient at is collecting your cash….

I raced the AMA arenacross in Prescott Az last month. By far the most organized moto list. They changed the order around a bit prior to racing but they utilized a live moto list on the AMA website. I know we’re talking local races here, but gosh darn it would be nice if AMA made the website/app they use available to local races organizations. It was super easy to watch the app and see what race was on and know when to head to staging.

We’ve got 6 AMA members in my house and we get 1 lame magazine a month. It would be great if AMA could support grassroots race organizations with a simple app, or offer better insurance rates for these grassroots organizations.

If you post the order prior, a lot of people won’t sign up for the late classes. I for sure wouldn’t sign my kid up for the late classes. At local races if my kid does 3 classes and is like moto 2, moto 5, then moto 22, we’ll skip the second round of moto 22.

On pre registration, I rarely ever do it unless it’s a race that might sell out. I’ll do Saturday practice, then not sign up for the Sunday race until practice is over just to make sure my kid is good

Was stupid and signed up for spring a ding when they opened this year, even though they never sell out. 5 classes for my kid, Probaly over $500. Of course my kid got hurt and they don’t do refunds……( they only allow to roll it over to next year)

A bike with peddles will get you anywhere you need to go in the pits. Bonus too, it’s a great way to loosen up before a moto!

You have to wait until you have all your signups to make a race order, as said above to try to keep riders from having back to back motos.   I have seen the race order set and one racer come up last minute before sign up closes, and enters two different classes and we have to completely remake the race order again.

Yeah I get that but look at the order I posted, there’s no way you’d be back to back…

Run the Masters of MX series. They have 3 set Race Orders for the year and rotate them for different rounds… But I do get what you are saying. And at a big event where you are guaranteed to have plenty of racers in each class, you could probably create one ahead of time. The really tricky one is when you have a small, little series and maybe a handful of riders in some classes. I help out at a track and I have done moto orders before. As soon as you start combining classes into a moto, things end up going sideways somewhere.

Masters has got to be the best series on the east coast  no doubt about it.

I’ve done the masters last few years. Main downside is the class turnouts are shameful many times. They should consolidate the classes but everyone wants their own age group class to themselves. I think classes with 5-10 guys is pretty lame but other than that it is the best format.

If pre-entries outnumber the post entries then the race schedule should be built around the pre-entries. Will you lose entries by doing it this way? It seems like it would be one less headache on race day.

Eh.... A lot of these guys that race this series don't like 40 riders going into the first turn. I get what you're saying but there's a good bit of people that like smaller classes

Your race order would be great in a perfect world where x number of riders show up every race in each class.

otherwise, it ties the hands of the promoter to tighten it up and combine classes.

Considering the biggest complaint we see on here vital is the race day dragging on too long, there needs to be flexibility.

You have 18 motos, and that is without any 50cc or unlimited classes (50cc, 65cc, C, amateur).

That order could be combined with stagger starts and pared down to 12 or 13, plus the classes mentioned above and get around17 or 18 motos.

If your biggest problem is having to go look at the order, simply find the promoter when he is not in the middle of something and ask him to please have somebody post it on the track facebook page. He can get any teenager to do it.

Regardless of entries, or how a promoter determines a race order, if there is no effective way to communicate that order in a timely manner it is a bad plan. PA systems are not a solution, at least none at an MX track that I’ve heard. Many can’t hear them and there is sure to be someone running their bike making it impossible to hear.

It just doesn't work that way.  The percentages change from race to race but at worst it's 50/50 pre reg to on site.  We really make the effort to accomodate as many racers as we can.  That makes it harder for some but it's our job.

Ive said it to tracks for decades now. The 1st 4 motos should always be the same thay way there's no rush or mad dash and everything will just flow better. For example  moto 1-4.

250b or 450b to cut the track back backin +25,30,40 or a C class                                                 65cc Sr or jr

Then a 85, 125, school boy, A class or womens.

No back to backs this way

We mix it up every round so that riders don't get left being late int he schedule every time.

Thats still not an issue with having the first 2- motos always being set. You can mix up the next 10-14 classes.

Here

450b to cut in the track then 85sr.

It sets the 1st 2 motos in stone so that everyone's not rushing around like a whack job some days. Both of those classes can handle a damper track if it was groomed and cut in lines for the rest of the day
