They're stupid.
I'm convinced they only exist so lap times aren't 45 seconds
Only logical explanation.
No lie detected here. Honestly every couple races is fine but I can do without them 90% of the time.

I think they are awesome. With them getting rid of certain things, its at least somewhat of a seperator.
I hate em.
Every SX track should have a righteous sand section.
It throws a wrench in the works because it's always changing. Repeat-o-cross, practiced to death tracks suck.
How can anyone NOT be a proponent for this?
I love seeing the sand sections on the tracks. I grew up riding a lot of sand along the Columbia river and even along the Oregon coast. We had some pretty cool sand SX practice tracks back in the day. It rained so much up that way - that sand was usually a good go to choice especially in the winter to avoid mud riding. It was hard on the bikes though - I went through a lot of clutches on my 125's.
100% agree with this. The Oregon coast dunes are epic. Pine trees and big ass sand hills.
Don't mistake my comment for disliking sand. I love sand. They just always turn into a 2 line section and dont create the good kind of drama. I dont mind the straight sand sections as much as the ones in corners, even tho they go a bit excessive sometimes even on straights (the cause of the roczen/hand incident).
Spent a lot of time in the sand out at Indian Dunes in Gran Prix races or just play riding back in the day. Sand is definitely an equalizer.
Sand skills on small bikes don't translate real well to big top heavy ADV bikes. 🤣
Awesome! Indian Dunes! Dan Lamb used to post a lot on here. @DanDunes818
His dad Gary posted a few times too - before he passed in 2014.

Tons of passing and crashes in it last night and no one got hurt, best thing for SX
Some great memories in that thread.....
To me, those were the best of moto times in my book.
Sand adds unpredictability, and takes rider skill and bike setup compromises. What's not to like (as a spectator)?
Sand sections are never cookie cutter they are always different and very challenging
Whaaat? I'm agreeing 100% with Magoofan for once!
There cannot be anything worse in supercross than cookie-cutter basic tracks. This year the tracks have been better than last year I think or was it two years ago, some really awful basic boring tracks, maybe 'safe' for the rider, but very boring racing.
2025 is great! (except that I really miss Eli and Jett)
Bring the mud pits back!
Pit Row
I'm all for it. Gimme a good sand section to mix it up a little.
The sand sections at Daytona and Indy were awesome!
Yes to sand sections!
Reminds me, can't wait to watch Southwick.
Did you ride at Rainier Beach outside of Longview?
I dislike most sand sections. They have put an end to many battles by a rider washing out. I would like to see something more creative done to be a separator that's not going to result in random crashes .
I do like sand when an entire track is mostly sand. Some of my most memorable/fun races have been at Southwick. I just hate how it ruins the flow of the track in Supercross. I can understand the thought of it being a disrupting thing and making the tracks different. But Supercross is all about being precise and having jumps that are consistent. Chad Reed talks about bein " Inch perfect" and saying how with SX You need to be able to be that precise.
Technical sections require skill, Sand sections have a mix of skill and often more luck. I would rather see some kind of difficult rhythm or another way to separate riders. I guess a sand section is a really safe and easy way of adding a difficult section to a track. Even with many crashes that happen in them, it seems like injuries are not common . I just hate how they can throw much more random luck into the results of a race. I started disliking them after multiple battles ended with a racer crashing or making a big mistake in sand.
I would love to see a set of sand whoops like Cocoa Beach in Fla had back in the day. Only thing it would probably be just one rut through it at the end of the night because unlike Cocoa Beach, the stadium has a bottom.
I don't know pretty sure Tomac made a killer outside pass earlier this season in the sand. That was BA.
Yes, that was jaw dropping!
Yep - There were great sand whoops at Rainier beach (oregon side of river). Back around 1988 - I had just gotten Eric Halls CR125 he rode in SX a few weeks earlier.. It had a custom cut nickle plated pipe on it. I was revving it so hard in the sand that the weld on the top of the pipe cracked. It melted a hole through the gas tank. Lucikly I didnt catch on fire. Probably my most memorable moment at that place. Other than watching Grayson Hart blitz those 4ft sand whoops on a kx 125.
Also on the Longview side of the river we had a little track too - but nothing special.
But really my fav spot - before Vancouver waterfront was built up by Alcoa.lower river road area...We had a handful of hidden tracks in that area along the river. Also some fun sand cliff jumps.
I remember going to SX races that had mud pits....
I am not opposed.
However, sponsors will complain that their logos aren't readable.... blah, blah blah....
"Whaaat? I'm agreeing 100% with Magoofan for once!"
Who knew! LOL
That was freakishly fast. Was still just two lines through it though.
