I've never understood it. If you start in a straight line with everyone ekse and then cross the finish line first, you were the fastest guy. There's no other way to get there before everyone else.

It's like when Emig labeled Dunge the diesel as he lazily fumbled around for something to talk about, saying he was consisten  but not fast. How in the fuck are you on the podium every race and one of the winningest riders of all time if you don't have insane speed?

It was never a real myth. Nobody has ever thought Webb isn't insanely fast.

He looked real fast last night!

Well   RC keeps saying it....so it must be true.   😉

It seems Coop is just getting better with age.         Really liked hearing that he went to bat to keep Justin Cooper on the team and that he's learning from Justin Cooper how to have that early intensity.     ...and vice-versa, JC is learning from Coop

Coop being at the top of the fast lap sheet... not something I'd have expected before the race. After watching it, yeah, he was the fastest. I kept waiting for Chase to find his pace, and run down Coop. Didn't happen.

What's really surprising to me about this list is Justin Cooper. How he was only 6th fastest, but turned it into a 2nd place finish.

Also surprising (a bit) is how much faster Webb and Sexton are over everyone else.

Edit: Actually, I misread the times. I thought the top two were over a second clear of everyone else.

Seems to me it's not the first time Coop has set the fastest lap time during a race this year.

Also....to note.    That laptime is pretty damn close to what they were setting in practice/qualifying....  but on a torched/rutted out track.

Insane.

Cooper’s speed is relative and on display due to attrition. If Jett or Eli were still out there, we wouldn’t be talking about speed with Cooper only getting 3rds-5ths. But, gotta be in it to win it, props to CW2.

Except Coop beat Jett straight up this year....

If all 17 rounds were on west coast tracks, your argument might be more valid.

But this is pretty much always the case on gnarly tracks and Webb involved. Shortening the track, no whoops. Ruts and slow.

Speed wasn't a huge factor yesterday. Consistency was.

There is no difference from before. Speed shows even more so outdoors, it's amplified. That's why Webb is not a outdoor guy.

It's still good, Webb is crushing it. But please don't say he found a lot of speed lately and are now known for that.

It's like saying Malcolm and Roczen changed because of a win or being in it, until they are not. Riders rarely change their true self this late.

While I still don't agree Webb has the top end speed of Jett, Eli, and Chase, he is looking the fastest I've seen him. He's in much better shape and looks sharper and more aggressive. Props to him for actually showing up in shape for once.

What more does he have to do? He dropped sexton by 10 seconds BEFORE he tipped over

This post nails it. All this nonsense about how “he doesn’t have raw speed”, as if putting an adjective in italics makes what you’re saying mean something, is just silly. Sounds like some people are just looking for a way to shit on him. He got to the finish line first but, so and so could have beat him if he wasn’t injured or didn’t fall over. Then don’t get injured or don’t fall over and actually fucking beat him. Turns out, getting injured or falling over slows you down. Who knew? I don’t even particularly like Webb - nor do I dislike him - but he deserves some respect for what he’s doing.

If he does that consistently to Sexton - provided the latter has no problems - things will be different. I still think that of the current field Sexton has more top end speed than anyone - provided he's 'feeling' it.  Of those out injured, only Jett can beat Sexton's top end.

Everyone has some reason to throw out why  he's not the real deal....this is just another one.  ^^^^

The guy can't get any credit for being one of the, if not THE greatest SX tacticians in the history of this sport.

When is speed not a factor in ANY of these races?     Of course the sand and the ruts slowed things down.   Coop put nearly 10 seconds on the supposed fastest guy.   People that were at the race are saying the dude was flying....  it shows on the broadcast.

Come on man.....    credit where credit is due.
