What a fantastic interview! I think it's great how much he appreciates his current situation. With ET, Jet and Hunter out he's adding an exciting storyline to the races. How does he do at Daytona? Glad to see Hills and Matthes getting along.
Interesting interview. He wouldn’t say exactly what habits he had to break but reading between the lines sounds like he might have been enjoying the hot leaf a little too much. Purely speculating.
I don't think Justin is into that or ever has been. I think he's talking about lacking focus and being immature. Not drugs.
Yes. He spoke of him & Monte (his dad) working hard together at the track in regards to those habits. I never took him for a 420 type guy,he even worked in law enforcement for a while.
What in that interview made you speculate he was smoking weed 🤣

I would have to go back and listen to pull exact quotes but he said something to the effect of having habits that started to effect his well being/ health and there were other quotes that got me thinking. And he would never say exactly what his bad habits were. And to me it sounded like off the bike stuff not riding related. I might be 100% wrong here. But it seemed like he was dancing around it a bit.
If you listen to his gypsy tales one, you would know he’s not into that at all. Think habits were more to do with his lifestyle patterns and mental heath. He apparently never used to sleep, had bad eating issues etc. He would be awake for days at a time I think he mentioned, but has managed to overcome all that. He’s actually sounds like a really down to earth decent guy.
Could have been playing video games, drinking too much coffee, watching porn, who knows or cares. The important thing is he realizes his errors.
He was into music too. Played guitar and sang.
Great interview and a wiser more mature Justin Hill, good on him.
He said Justin Brayton told him his best years were from 30-34 for something like ability and mental game, don't quote me. Something to that effect.
Nope. I can say firsthand he has had EVERY opportunity to go the party/substance route, and was never interested. Never participated, ever.
He was simply distracted with innocent stuff that kept him from being the full package. I love to see this motivated, mature version of Justin.
You can say what you want about the Hill's lack of focus at times, but they are really nice dudes whose "bad reputation" has been extremely exaggerated. They love dirt bikes and riding just as much or more than every member on this site. Much more than most pro racers.
There's a good chance Josh is building some custom tracks on a video game as we speak.
I think they've "suffered" because all they want to do is ride. Josh's racing career obviously took a turn when he got wrecked doing a backflip, and it seems like Justin is just always on the go riding and doing whatever without narrowing in on just racing. Super cool to see him do well, maybe he can sneak in a win ala Mookie before the season is over.
I have to say this season I've gained a lot of respect for Justin, in the past I had a much more negative view of him esp after the whole "I can't ride nashville SX but I can bar hop and sing karaoke" ordeal from a few years ago. Him and Josh both are very naturally talented on a dirt bike.
Word. I’m clearly wrong. I retract my take
I've been lucky enough to get to know the Hills and no bs they are really just the best people. If anyone has the opportunity to go to a Hill Jam I strongly recommend it.
I thought that was cool that he shared what Brayton told him but more so what Dungey told him about diet. How it can have such positive effect on everything including mood.

Law enforcement angle doesn't really factor. Cannabis has been legal in Oregon for a decade.
Federal law regarding the purchase, ownership, and carry of firearms prohibits the use of cannabis. Since carrying a firearm is a requirement for police officers they are prohibited from using cannabis in all states.
Pit Row
But that wouldn’t have been in effect while he was riding. He wasn't a police officer. He was a dirt bike rider. I have no clue if dude was smoking or not, but if he was legally partaking while he was riding, I don't see how later becoming a cop is a factor.
My my main point was he became a deputy... I highly doubt he was ever a pothead. I don't know that there's many potheads out there wanting to become cops. I think him working in law enforcement shows his character - he's a good clean guy.
But that's the point. In Oregon, somebody who partakes in cannabis is just as good/clean a guy in eyes of the law as a dude who drinks a beer. And it has been that way for longer than Justin Hill has been of age.
None of my business....
Why is it so many people care about the specifics of why a potentially top ten rider isn't top five? All the speculation is just that, speculation. To all those with the nefarious reasons he failed in the past, fuck you. It is in the past, I do not care of his past failures or the reasons why. The past is just that, past. This is a young man going forward, I applaud him, and do not give a shit of his past. It is not how you fall, it is how you rise again. Give them hell, Hill.
The whole point is Justin Hill was never a weed smoker. Good for you for knowing Oregon law, nobody cares.
Was a really good interview, he was always funny and down to earth, so nice to hear him back on the show after so many years.
That was solid. Good character.
I REMBER THAT THIS GUY GET IN BIG TROUBEL WHEN HE RIDED SUSZUKI FOR EATING GUMMY BEARS IN THE SEMI TRUCK AND THAT PEOPLE THINKED HE DIDND HAVE THE FOCUS
You have no clue how the police interview process works, do you?
If it makes you feel any better I kinda thought that’s what he was talking about as well.
Excellent point Tyler, we'll have to look into this further. Always appreciate your input.
