GNCC Opener Big Buck

It blows my mind that people actually pay money to do this.

Show up, get ready, race, leave.

And spend the next week cleaning mud and rebuilding the bike.

A dry event would be most awesome.😀

You guys take your bikes to bike shows or something? Detail them? When did cleaning mud off a bike become a big deal? Feel like some of you guys might catch the vapors if you walked into my barn and saw some of my equipment.

They did so well because only 6 XC1 guys even finished the race.  Baylor DNFed.  Unless he’s hurt and didn’t show up, it looks like defending champ Johnny Girrior must have DNFed, too.  All the experts here on Vital believe that it is impossible for a factory bike to DNF a horrible mud race, apparently.  Radiator fans don’t work if the radiator is so packed with mud that air can’t pass through it.

Who said it was impossible?

You're basically saying it was impossible to finish just cause your buddies couldn't keep themselves from blowing their bikes up.  Maybe let them know that after the 3rd-4th time boiling over it might be time for a new battle plan, maybe stop and pour some water in the radiators?

Shit happens that is out of our control but I don't have a lot of sympathy for someone who blows their bike up over clogged radiators, that's operator error.  Especially if you gotta pay for your own parts.

Gotta replace plastics and graphics after they get a little muddy bro! Can’t load our bikes up in the back of our truck and sit down the local gas station looking cool with beat up plastics!

I signed up for the hare scramble series this year in Arkansas. Gonna be on a Honda 450. Don’t know how it will shake out for me.  I see a lot of Yamaha and ktm 250s on the roster.

I get the appeal of off road in general, but I just don’t understand the appeal of racing in conditions like that.  I have two friends that were there that both blew up bikes.  Now they’re in a panic to secure the thousands of dollars worth of parts and labor they need to get ready for the next race.  With the exception of a national, most motocross promoters would cancel and reschedule the event for another day if the conditions were that bad.  I guarantee the industry loves the popularity of a sport that requires a full engine rebuild every weekend.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and hazard a guess that the Blackwater 100 wasn't on your bucket list? 😄

Cue the photos, guys.

Looks to me like only 6 XC1 riders even finished the race, and an XC2 rider won the overall.  That is just straight abusive to a bike.

You’re looking at points not race results. Only top 20 overall score points. Seven XC1 riders finished. Overall 31 riders finished on the lead lap.IMG 2230 2

Yeah I thought that was the coolest race too. Where was it WV. ?  I think gncc has a race in WV.  All the steep big hills & steep mountains , big creeks running threw them

You don’t know until you try one of these. Seriously fun.

Hard on bikes, sure.

The race was won on a Pirelli mud/sand tire. Might be a first for that.

Yeah they were on their scoop tire I also noticed Pirelli just came out with an updated MX32 soft terrain tire that looks like a great combo of a scoop and a normal knobby but only list 19" rears for now so we will see what they actually end up manufacturing when they release them.

The Snowshoe WV round is probably closest thing to the BW.  It’s a great weekend event GNCC puts on and track is pretty tough especially if they get any rain.  If you get the chance, make the trip in June to check it out.  You can check find plenty of footage of the races on YouTube. I take my dual sport bike and ride the surrounding areas on Friday.

GNCC crew goes back and restores all the terrain after every race I’m told. 👍

Man it was rough last weekend but our crew had a great time getting “bangers”.

Here’s sizzle reel if you didn’t see it.
