You don't have to be the fastest, you just have to get it done.

I think Webb would be in a totally different place mentally (worse) if Tomac and Jett were still out there, but they aren't and Webb is taking advantage of it.

I want Sexton to win but my money would be on Webb if I was a gambling man...until chase can reel some wins off and stop the bleeding.

Think about Webbs competition, no disrespect but Roczen is somewhat inconsistent, Mookie and Anderson are the definition of inconsistent. His competition is Sexton, who can't stay out of his own way.

It's just math. Tomac and Jett has been showing more speed in races than Chase. Caught up, passed. Chase was 0.5sec faster than Webb and shawing of the time to leaders, passing 19 riders. Tomac and specially Jett would have been even faster on this track if they ran upfront.

Probably Chase would have been a second faster than Webb if he was upfront without traffic.

Webb winning on gritt, always has in 450 class. He is looking good. But ain't nothing different from before. Just as AP went back to being himself after winning one, Mookie back to his normal today. Anderson not getting another championship. RJ doing RJ stuff, Mcaddo doing his stuff. Riders rarely change, but circumstances does.

All I have said is, this one is Chase to lose because Webb ain't beating him straight up heads to head on speed.

I get what you’re saying. I’m just objecting to the “straight up” comment. Yes, all things being equal, Sexton beats Webb. But all things are not equal, and the world as it is is the world that matters - not one where Sexton doesn’t fuck up and Tomac and Jett aren’t injured. Webb looks like a guy riding smooth, efficient , and relatively safe (supercross is never exactly safe) and in control. Tonight, that made him the guy who got around the track the fastest. If he can keep doing that, he’s a problem for the rest of the field.

Sure, if things were different, then maybe someone else would have won. After a while all the “but if…” comments start to sound like sour grapes. I’m not Webb’ biggest fan but fuck, that was a damn good ride - give the man his moment and a little credit.

Exactly you kind of made my point. If they would have started at the same position, Chase would have won based on that. That is including he having to pass 19 riders getting that time. It was 19-20 sec when he started. Was down to 11 or 12 sec when he backed off and did some 51, 54 etc cruising it in. He would have had a 7-8 sec lead.

Unfortunately, just as Tomac can't start good consistently, Chase is making these mistakes. I still think it's Chase to lose.

It's always hilarious to see people's reactions to Webb winning.

If Roczen wins a race, it's always "wow, he's so incredible, he might actually pull off this title!".

If Webb wins a race, it's always "well, actually, he wouldn't have won if x, y, and z didn't happen, and if this guy wasn't injured".

Oh stop it. Everyone says how great Webb is. His race craft and heart is second to none. We just don't make shit up and say he has the top end speed of Jett, Eli, or Chase. That's not the only thing that wins titles as Webb has shown

Dude, take 10 sec and look at the last couple pages of this thread. It's nothing but people feeling bad for Roczen, blaming lappers, and talking about how much faster Sexton is. Barely any compliments to Webb for a relentless victory. I mean, come on. We have a guy trying to mathematically prove to us how many seconds Sexton would've won by if he didn't make two braindead mistakes within the first 20 seconds of the race.

What? Was the starting gate somewhere else for Sexton? They started at the same place at the same time. Starting is part of the race and Sexton made a mistake. Then he made another. Those mistakes added to the time it took him to cover the distance of the race. This is becoming rather strange.

It's in reference to speed. You got to be damn lucky to win a championship when there is 3-4 riders that in general are faster. That's all.

I think it will be same this year. Speed will win over consistency unless we get start crashes and more freak injuries.

People got upset because I said (all things equally), Webb ain't winning titles because he doesn't have the speed. Chase is throwing it away, it's on him and that you could say defines him. Tomac last Injuries and Jett, you can't really say "in it to win it" apply and give creds to Webb. Freak accidents took them out. Tomac suffers from poor starts of course.

If 12-15 whoops was still an option, Webb would have it even harder. But I agree Webb and bike is looking good, maybe best it has since he went blue.

I still think Chase gets it done, going from 22 to 3rd, you can make a lot of mistakes if you assume you also don't do mistakes and win like half the races. Webb will have a throw away or two also.

They are tied in points. Shows there two ways to get to the top. This title is completely up in the air.

If I had to put down money I'd take Webb. Chase still does so many weird boneheaded things it amazes me. In reality Chase is THE class of this field at this point but I won't be surprised at all if he makes more unforced errors while Webb just does his thing.

It's Chase championship to lose i have said. Unfortunately, he might be doing just that.

But there is no way Webb beats Sexton straight up on this track. Chase wins with 10 sec easilly.

I get what you're saying but they just had a race and Webb won with 10 secs easy..

I do agree that Sexton should be considered the favourite. I in no way mean to take anything away from his talent. He’s plenty fast - when he’s not slowing himself down with crashes and other mistakes. Clean those up and yeah, it’s his to lose. I’m sure looking forward to seeing how it plays out! But damn, one more injury to a top rider and I will literally cry.

To add to you guys argument. Here were the total fastest times by sector of the 450 main Webb vs Sexton.

Sexton - 2 of 8

Webb - 4 of 8

To add to that, of 2 sectors where neither Sexton nor Webb were the fastest, Webb was faster then Sexton in both. Data is data and Webb had Sexton covered on speed tonight.

This race and series is such a rorschach test.

I'm still going to take the guy with the clear speed advantage but everyone is free to interpret events however they want. The funny thing to me is that the webb fan's entire argument is that webb will win the title because the other guy will make mistakes. Nobody even tries to argue that webb will beat him if they're both at their best. Backhanded compliment there if I've ever heard one.

Has chase said if he was just guessing on the gate? I'm assuming so because I felt like they were holding them a little longer than usual all day today, but just curious if he admitted it.

I also think someone needs to tell chase his goal is to lap the field. He seems to ride so much better when he's not worried about position and is just sending it forward. Need to find a way to get him to approach every race that way. Try to lap the field. RC used to try to do it outdoors.
