Time to Say Deegan Is Underwhelming Us In 2025?

Old Mate has produced the next 2 superstars of this sport. Kind of wild that an antipodean invasion is happening but you watch Jett ride and nobody else looks the same besides Cole and Hunter. When the American riding schools figure out whatever it is that is making these guys look so fluid, central and poised, America will have its superstar. Deegan ain’t it. Sexton right now is the only hope.

This isn't the 500 two stroke days.

Really!!! Did the guy think that a star Yamaha was going to make him a star….wtf the guy was an ahole. I have been beaten more times  by guys on stock bikes with purebred talent than I can count. He has talent, get up close and watch it instead of TV couch potato.

You don't know what your talking about. He never said he could beat Degan if he was on a Star Yamaha. He just wanted to ride one(so do I) and he worked  to earn the money to claim the bike. How he was bullied was inexcusable. Not sure how following the rules makes you an ahole.

I'm still pissed about how they cornered a minor kid without his father present.

Watch the interview before you start spouting b++++++t

Which has nothing to do with Haiden. Yet, some people have hated him since (and many before) claimgate.

Having said that, you are correct. It is inexcusable to corner a minor, and he should have, per the rules, gotten the bike.

Old Mate has been teaching the fundamentals for decades, but he still gets excited when a kid gets it. That’s pretty cool imo.

I can absolutely see him not doing jack in 450 indoors or out as long as Sexton, Webb, Tomac + Roczen (as long they want to be around), Prado, and the Hunter brother’s anuses all point to the ground. Then you have Juju, Vialle, Davies, Hymas and others that are going to surpass him. His fans have been deluded by his results in a feeder class. Madly (self) overhyped kid who at best will be the new Barcia. With a good start he will “dangerbam” people trying to pass him to try score a podium. With a bad start…. lol.

This will not age well.

Yeah unless some new blood steps up Deegs will be entering the 450s as Eli, Anderson, Mookie, Kenny and probably Coop are all leaving. Not sure how long Sexton will continue so he will only need to contend with Jett and Hunta. Hopefully some other 250 guys step up as they move to 450s or it’s going to be a pretty weak field.

I’ve said this many times, but the “aggressive style doesn’t work on a 450” thing has been demonstrably false for the last 20 years

And Haiden hasn't shown anywhere near the potential as any of those guys in sx.

Deegz is a beast outdoors. I'm plenty critical of his SX skills but a spade is a spade. He's going to be a problem every summer for everyone. Even Jett.

RV lost his first sx series, won his second, and lost the third season to Canard (1 for 3). RC lost his first season, won his second (1 for two), and Eli lost his first, won his second and lost his third (1 for 3).

If Haiden wins the title this season, he's not far off the mark from any of those guys.

Speaking of SX only - Deegs was being touted as the second coming of MC since he was about 10 - then here comes the Lawrence’s from seemingly nowhere - it sure seemed convenient to slow roll 250s because they know Jett is superior.  Now some new talent has slipped in behind them and the pressure is on.

I would love to see nothing more than JuJu be the spoiler.   It sucks because I originally liked Deegs and my kid and watched the YT show but ever since the ClaimGate it seems like his punk attitude has taken over and he has shown he is no role model.  And yes I believe in that stuff for my kid.

He had a real chance to be a great young man and carry the US SX torch but IMO the greatest dirt bike marketing guy of all time (according to @jWeege)  underestimated the voice of guys actually buying dirtbikes who value class and humbleness - and instead marketed to teens and those in a social media  comatose.

Claimgate was a huge black eye for Deegans, Star Racing, the AMA, and national amateur racing.

Deegan was supposed to be America's generational talent and although he has had more success than almost any other guy starting their career in the last decade I'm having a harder time believing the hype the more I see him.

Claimgate was mostly two black eyes for both Haiden and Bryan...

There’s some really weird stuff in this thread. Actually a bit disturbing.

The kid looks like he’s pushing too hard at times. He’s just needs to relax and do his thing and he’ll be fine. I’m not entirely sure I understand what “overriding the track” means but I think that may be the expression I’m looking for.

He rides on the back tire and likes a light front feel. That tends to look over aggressive at times. As far as the star bike claim imo it’s a stupid rule that stunts technology growth. Challenge an illegal bike I’m ok with that., claim a bike…..BS imo.

How long did it take eli to win a national title?

Not really fair to look at what they became later,  but give deegan crap this early in his career.

I remember reading the online race reports when RC went pro with extremely heightened interest. There was huge expectation from day 1 for him to clean up. He was the guy. He was turning faster lap times on superminis than the amateur nats pro classes.

Absolutely.... Reynard was even more hyped than RC was.

Only point was , early on the 250, nobody thought he's be what he turned into.

The talk before 01 sx was MC vs DV, with RC winning some races.

Deggan gets a lot of flack.  He's won indoors and out,  sx is just taking more time.
