I couldn’t watch the race…but I see Tomac finished 17th! What happened to Eli? Does this mean he might’ve been hurt more seriously than originally thought?

If you saw the incident and his reaction, you know he wasn’t fine.

"Fine" as in nothing broken is different than "Fine" as in 100%. He got pinched off at the start and it was point salvage time from there.

I feel like they don’t even know if he has ligament damage. They did an x ray and said he had a bruise

MRI will reveal something.

I was hopeful it was/is something minor after qualifying…but he’s no wimp, and was definitely way off his normal pace in both the heat and the main. I’m not optimistic.

Yeah, I mean between seeing how far his foot got pulled back in the replay, the way he was babying his left leg all night, and pointing his foot outward, it didn't look good to me. I really hope it's a really bad stinger too but I feel like it's gonna be like Jett's with ligament damage.. real shame, he was in maybe his best form of riding. Fingers crossed I'm wrong. 🤞

Seeing him get lapped by guys that would never dream of running his pace was tough to watch.

This sucks, I thought for sure he was out when he pulled off in pain.  I hope he’s able to keep racing but it doesn’t look good.

Calf bruising is the most ridiculous statement for the team to put out. We aren't stupid.

ET3 was clearly in pain as he limped up to the line for the start of the main. I reckon it was worth the effort as the 5 points he scored are way better than a "0"

Eli was 3 seconds of his Q1 time in his heat and around 4.5 seconds off Q1 time in the main.

Hopefully he heals up enough this week to go in Detroit

Same here.

Gutted for him.

I can only hope he's back to form next week....

Looked like it a tib/fib from the slow mo and his reaction (non-displaced)... coming from a totally unqualified source.

No way he races the heat and main on a broken tib/fib.

Plus they announced x rays were negative for breaks.

And calf bruises can be brutal! I’ve had some goodies, couldn’t walk for days.

That was hard to watch... Seeing him staying behind Starling for laps on end and just babying it through the whoops. I hope that somehow he makes a miraculous recovery but I feel like an MRI is coming and he's going to be out of it. I hope he is at least able to make a healthy run at the MX title. This would be a horrendous way to see him go out.

On the Pulp review pod, steve says he took the foot peg to the calf, i just hope he survives the season and gets healthy, survives denver, and give outdoors one last send.

Where did you find the review pod? It's not up on the podcast page.

Sorry - off topic I know, but have been waiting to listen to the review. Smile

I just listened to Matthes’ review on Spotify on my way into work.

Deep calf bruise…. Going to take all the therapy he can get to be able to ride on Saturday.  I think he’ll be there, but not 100%.

The downward toe-point impact he had on the face of the jump is how you tear your Lisfranc ligament in your foot as well, which is a gnarly recovery. I assume we'll get some PR this week.

Just released. Check vital or racerx. Says sprained ankle and lower leg bruise. Going to do everything he can to race in Detroit.

I honestly can’t decipher what is true. The teams and riders are so weird about this shit. It’s a professional sport with fans and media and now gambling.

It’s beyond stupid. Chance told Lewis that he made a big bike change before the heat and when Lewis asked what it was he just said it was secret. Like wtf dude (and team) just tell us what it is. Do you think some privateer will hear you say we yup I went up 2 spring rates and copy that and all of a sudden beat you.

So much of what guys at Tomac level do to control the bike is gripping with the legs knees on down.  That kind of injury doesn't just hurt, but impairs strength.  Just weighting the outside peg likely was compromised.  Good for him salvaging some points.

Such a bummer. If he can’t race at 100% I think he should take a few weeks off and come back for wins

So I wrote this in the qualifying thread on Saturday...

"This reminded me of something that happened to me in similar fashion about 20 years ago out in the desert. I dropped off a trail into a sand wash that was whooped out and my left foot slipped forward into the sand. Footpeg jammed right into my calf and I thought I broke my leg... I still have hardened scar tissue in my calf muscle that is easily felt just below the skin."

What I didn't mention (because I didn't want to get too deep into speculation) was I could barely put weight on my leg for about 2 weeks. Do I think Tomac will have it THAT bad? No. He's fit, he's got the best trainers and docs yadda yadda yadda... I have a feeling the bigger issue will be the ankle. It'll be interesting to see how much better he is this weekend.
