I was watching San Diego press day footage and noticed guys jumping the rhythm and lifting a foot off the peg about 8-10 inches and then swinging it back towards the back of the bike a little. It's nothing new (and not a Bogle leg swag move), but at my last race I also realized I was doing this over a big table (generally the outside foot if the bike is turned or whipping) and not really thinking about it consciously. Why are they/we doing this - does unweighting the peg bring the front down? Changing the center of mass? I also realize there's a distinct possibility for me it might even be monkey-see-monkey-do, but somehow it feels like it makes sense and keeps me locked in. I'm sure we have plenty of riding coaches in here who can offer opinions, what says the group?

Its just a fidget, I have seen it at all levels since the 90s
Post a photo of yourself hitting the big tabletop
Josh Hansen said it will drop nose of bike.
Always thought it was a weight transfer thing

They've been doing it 30+ years. I typically do it if I need to pivot the front forward a touch but dont have enough body English and don't want to brake tap. Sometimes I catch my self doing it just because of how I hit the jump but not using it to lift.
I think it just comes down to maintaining balance and getting desired influence over the motorcycle.
I’m waiting for a single to table…
It can if you do it right.
Maybe it just looks “Tasty” 🤣
Hansen kept his feet on the pegs a lot of the time he would do that trademark front end down maneuver too (from my memory anyway). It’s fun to play with, keep feet on the pegs and try to pull your feet backwards (the feeling is like your pulling your feet behind yourself) and feel how much influence that has over the pitch of the motorcycle.
My avatar pic is over the jump I was talking about, you can see it up a little but I don't think it's as much as the other week. In the pic below it's out more, not the same jump but in a rhythm at the old Moto 40 track that Reed used to be involved with. Not sure why I have it out, but wasn't consciously doing it.
Yea I’d say your doing this for balance and a little style. With your body in the same overall position If you kept your foot on that peg it could bring your hips to the outside of the bike and create a scenario where you would start to feel a high side scenario. There’s so many different variables though.
Gravity boots
Looks like everytime Bogles bike would get a crazy kick his foot would come off for balance ☺️☺️☺️
Admit it bro, you started this thread to show your sick leg swag off.
Cos McGrath did it !!
Honest opinion bro you got rizz
I really enjoy watching the evil kenevil form with the jujitsu lightening kick.

Haha no I promise I didn’t, I was just trying to figure it out. I think moving the leg may actually cause upper body to shift forward a little, maybe even to front load to get on the gas again after landing. I really didn’t plan or want to post a pic but someone asked.
I do it occasionally. Not sure what the function is. More of a feeing than anything.
Works well with a seat bounce coming out of turns.
Perfect picture. I noticed that I do this also. Like someone else said earlier, I believe I do it when I am trying to level the bike out (in a minor way where I wouldn't be brake tapping.) I don't even know if the leg drifting back like that even does anything but it's just a reaction. When I had a Husky, I noticed a bunch of curved markings on the sidepanel, behind the peg, from my boot.
I’m dead sailor, four points of contact at all times, until I’m not. But I’m old.
Ever heard of the Doctor Dangle ?
Rossi started it & the rest followed
It’s subconscious weight transfer.

The downvotes are cracking me up. God forbid we discuss riding technique on a motocross forum...
I do it all the time. I think it just keeps you active in the air so you don't turn into a dead sailor. Or, subconsciously, I think it looks cool. Who knows?
I have noticed a lot of riders kick their leg forward and out over short/abrupt jumps. Wonder if this has the opposite effect?
I’m a chronic leg kicker, two reasons:
1. Because 199 walked on water in my eyes
2. It feels cool as fuck
This is normally while seat bouncing out of a corner with your leg already out.
