Someone always has to ruin it for everyone…
Obviously at least one guy in here missed the point of insurance being a big problem for the tracks. Michael was pointing out what a dumb move this was and it turns into a thread about not wearing a helmet while riding.
As long as we’ve gotten here, I’ll put my 2 cents in about riding without a helmet. My brother got on a friends dirt bike and rode it up his street no more than 500’, before crashing and crushing his skull on the curb and dying. A few of his friends were there and ran up the street to see if he was ok and had to watch their buddy (my brother) die in front of them. Just put a helmet on and be safe, it is an easy thing to do.
But back to Michael’s point, anyone riding a dirt bike at a public track, should be banned, IMO. There won’t be public tracks, if they can’t get insurance.
Every time we vacation in South Carolina I’m freaked out watching people ride Harleys and sportbikes without helmets. It is so crazy and the riders seem to love it. People trailer their bikes there from other states so they can be free. Effin nuts.
4 pages and still no name drop haha
I've had friends who have ridden a bike down their driveway testing it without gear and eaten shit big time

I lost a family friend last year because he foolishly tried to ride his xr650 to my dad’s without a helmet. My gfs coworkers saw the whole thing and it was a small, slow crash. They thought he was just going to get up and ride away, but he hit his head on the curb.
The one bozo in this thread obviously missed MLs point about insurance and tracks
The footage goes out in the public for all to see, so what’s the difference? It’s idiotic to do. He even does it in front of young kids. It’s not a good example.
Chad Red thinks it's OK..... public track.... Stupid.
Cocaine is a hell of a drug
One thing is for certain, if this stuff keeps happening the narrative will quickly go from “grow the sport” to “save the sport!” Society is on the gas headed towards idiocracy and unfortunately the sport we love is in the back yelling “Hell yeah!”
I was at a race in 1981 on my 80, and on the second lap my dad pulled me over and stopped me. I hadn't done my helmet up and the straps were flapping. I was fuming and yelled at him for losing places but he soon put me right with a quick cuff round my (now safe) head 😄
Karens as far as the eye can see.
1. I never said it wasn't stupid. It is.
2. It's not Kevin's job to parent other people's kids. People do stupid shit everyday.
3. I'll let you research what the difference is.
I will absolutely disagree with you on #2. If you are a paid trainer, you are going to be in a major position of influence on a young person's life. Hell, some kids spend more time with their trainer than their parent! So, yes, I expect them to treat and think of MY kid as a parent would - help them learn the right way to do things so they AVOID doing stupid shit every day. I have 5 kids, 3 exchange students, and classrooms of kids that I taught over the years. I take great pride in the influence I've had on their lives, and some still let me know 40 years later how much they appreciate it. In many ways they are all "my kids". IMHO the value of your life is measured by the quality of the people you've influenced
You're still responsible. If you don't like what you see or what your kids are being taught in school, sports, etc., it's your job to address the situation. Whether that's calling and talking to the person in charge or pulling them out of school and sending them to a different school, that's your job.
Edit: Typo
It was Vince Friese
I think you both have points and both right to a degree. If your kid is being coached by a trainer that is doing things you think are a bad influence it’s your job as the parent to rectify the situation in the way you see fit.
It’s phenomenal that you take such pride in teaching younger generations, but not everyone is this way. And sometimes seeing someone do something stupid is a great teacher. I’ve learned more from mistakes then successes that’s for sure.
Interesting, I think JW's have a similar philosophy. "IMHO the value of your life is measured by the quality of the people you've influenced"
How does your view work for kids you've influenced that end up doing stupid stuff? Do you take credit for those outcomes as well?
Windham is getting paid to set an example for young riders. People do dumbs things everyday, but they usually aren’t being paid set an example. I’ll let you figure what the difference is.
Pit Row
One time growing up my dad just wearing shorts and no helmet hopped on my RM85 and said “This is how you hit a corner” and proceeded to high side and eat the most shit I’d ever seen. It sucked because that was the end of riding that day
Some mum's have a 6th sense with that shit!
I'm not religious in any way. Since I'm reaching the end of my working career, about the most important task I have is to pass on what I've learned over 40 years of leading tactical Ops teams to my replacements. I try to do that at work, at the track, and at home. I'm proud I've had good results with most of the kids I've worked with.
I have one kid I took under my wing when he was 11 or so. Got him into moto and taught him how to maintain his bike. He did pretty good until 16 when he got a girlfriend. Then he drifted away and made some stupid decisions. Pot, crashed his truck, struggled in school. I'm confident that if he'd stayed at the track and in the shop with us he'd not have made the same decisions. But you can't force anything on them. Sometimes they have to learn the hard way. He's straightened it back out, and he's doing pretty good now. I don't take responsibility for his decisions nor the outcome. He knew better, and he did it anyway, and he paid the price. He learned too.
Most vital users should be wearing helmets all day...
It takes a teaspoon of shit to spoil a tub of strawberries.
All it takes is one dude doing something stupid and a track can get shut down. This dude at Glen Helen is a effing idiot.
We have lost two tracks here in my city and we only have one left.
Cant remember, think this is a sister if a famous ex-racer…?
Moral of the story: woman will destroy your life 🤣
RJ Hampshire’s sister if I remember correctly, might be wrong on that
It was Rich Taylor.
Holy shit this sport has gotten so fucking soft the last few years. Go watch a professional street snowboard, skateboard, or bmx vid see a lot of helmets? But when one guy rides a couple corners or across the track at a MX track let’s shut everything down. What’s the point of signing waivers upon entry Karens?
