Youth Motorcycle Sales Banned

Last couple days to be able to purchase youth Motorcycles and ATV's in Minnesota.  Can't make this crap up.  I think it is so absurd people don't believe it.  This is a link to a dealer, Moon Motorsports explaining it.

Surely if this was real the AMA would be all hands on deck to help right?

Sounds similar to how the lead law impacted  kids bicycles and dirtbikes before they changed it to make sense.

Looks like Maine has a similar law that will be enacted in 2030 that bans the sale of products with PFAS.  There was an article  a couple years ago that talked about it.  Colorado has a law on PFAS that exempts Youth off road vehicles when the item with PFAS is in an area that the use and abuse of the vehicle will not come in contact with the users mouth or skin.

They are chemicals that are known as forever chemicals. They take a really longtime to breakdown and are linked to a lot of health issues.  In powersports, PFAS chemicals can be found in or used to produce products, such as:

Riding gear with sweat-wicking properties and water resistance

A wide variety of plastic and rubber parts

Gaskets and o-rings

Components resistant to heat, fuel, and chemicals

Evaporation-resistant hoses and tubing

Semiconductors and chrome plating.

Looks like they have been working on this law since around 2022. That's not really enough time for manufacturers to make big changes to products.

Gavin Newsom vetoed a law that was proposed in Cali to require manufactures to register products by 2026 .

I'm all for identifying the products that contain dangerous compounds in them. But not in the way that California has done with the Proposition 65 law. Just about everything has to have that warning on it . It would help if they limited it to products that would expose the end user to risk when using the item as intended.  Like how will a plastic fender give me cancer by me having it bolted onto my dirtbike that never comes in contact with my skin?

Meanwhile,  nearly every kitchen in the country has these chemicals and we unwittingly consume it every single day, so ad usual, it's about control and leverage of power and not our health.

Exactly. As I said with the lead law shenanigans…if your kid eats their dirt bike, lead is the least of your worries.

Yeah, I can see a SWAT team of the AMA's finest jumping on this.

How can people in power be so fucking dumb?  A dirtbike, for real, something that is climbed upon 1x a week for the average Joe. We don’t eat, or lick the damn thing but hey lets go after them first, before we go after all the other hundreds of ways that we actually ingest PFAS. Bizarre that we are heading back to glass and paper products, until…

This goes well beyond dirt bikes. This law impacts anything targeted for children under 12 years of age with only a few exceptions.

Its absurd to go after PFAS in youth dirt bikes.  I'm a red blooded conservative, and still I do know PFAS is a real issue in the environment.  Thinking that small dirtbikes for little kids is going to do anything with respect to PFAS is possibly one of the most moronic thought processes imaginable. Ultimately, we need to stop putting the compounds into the environment - yet again, small dirt bikes isn't a squirt of piss in the ocean for addressing PFAS in the environment. All about control.

The people creating these laws don't understand the problem if they think these laws are going to lower human risk of exposure to PFAS.

The whole PFAS thing is about to blow up as you can't buy any apparel products with it starting Jan 1 in CA and NY.

Items can contain it at levels below 100 ppm for 2025 and 2026 then it’s reduced to 50 ppm, but yeah get your banana leaves ready, shits getting cray cray.

Chairman Mao understood first you control the youth then the parents by default. Only officially approved uniforms will be permitted.

McDonald's, KFC, CocaCola and many others make more harm than children than dirt bikes, but I guess having active kids is detrimental for the medical industrial complex...

So catching up, kind of looks like that dealer is blowing things out of proportion to try to make a buck? Or is it a legit thing happening in MN?

The Vital forum is slowly becoming a dumping ground for fake news, conspiracy theories, and bullshit drama. Or maybe it's always been like this and I'm just tired of it.

I've seen similar posts from multiple dealers.  Guess I'll go visit a few Thursday and find out.

I'm certainly not an expert on this, but just gleaming from what I've read, the law has a flaw in it that would effectively ban youth bikes, but that part of the law doesn't take effect for quite a few years, giving time for either manufacturers to change a part, or for lawmakers to make amendments to any oversight.

Am I close, anyone?

From Minnesota here - it sounds companies have several years to become compliant, similar to what’s happening elsewhere. Not sure what this dealer was attempting to accomplish.

These companies will pivot. It will be fine.

Now if we can just look into this whole PFAS where it actually matters - farming & water supplies.

Seems like it is unclear, because if you google it there are quite a few sites saying what the dealer is saying, that sales end to youth on January 1st.  I have no idea who is right, but this is crazy regardless.  I have never seen one of my kids chewing on the fender of his motorcycle....

This is real. Language has to be added to exclude youth Motorsport products which Maine had added. Obstructionists gonna obstruct tho.

Only applies to “new” sales.

So, this ban is to keep people/children from eating dirt bike plastics and parts that contain pfas?
