KTM may just be a symptom if giants like Honda and Nissan have to possibly merge. How this impacts Honda motorcycles nobody knows.
Honda, Nissan in talks to set up holding company, source says | Reuters
Nissan was in trouble. I think Honda is just in a good position to absorb them.
One theory I have heard is that Honda was instructed to not let Nissan get sold to the Chinese/Indians.

I believe they are teaming up to combine EV forces. Think it will be similar to when Kawi/Suzuki joined up when 4 strokes came out to compete against Yamaha and Honda.
Note, I started a thread in Non-moto on this topic before I saw this thread.
Honda had teamed up with GM on EV battery development, but GM recently announced they are pulling out of the Chinese market due to Chinese EVs taking over the Chinese domestic market, and GM not being able to compete.
The whole automotive market is under thread from Chinese EV's, even Tesla. Chinese EV manufacturers are developing at a faster pace than western companies EV's and at a lower cost, this is an existential thread to the entire western automotive industry.
Honda is looking to team up with Nissan and Mitsubishi, who are 25% owned by Nissan, to compete with Chinese manufacturers.
Unlikely it will have any effect on the moto market.
Chinese EVs are very competitive. No wonder why GM pulled out and we have big tariffs on em...
No tariffs on EVs in Australia, we don't manufacture cars here anymore, so nothing to protect, Tesla, GM and BYD sold here are all manufactured in China...
Yep. I love my Model Y. I always wondered how the models differed being made in the US vs China
There's one major difference you may notice...
Just a little bit
LOL
There are something like 40 Chinese EV manufacturers. Most of them won't survive. I am curious if they have to meet crash test requirements in China or if it is as I expect a free for all.
China car manufacturers have to pass CATARC...

crash tests, standards are modeled after the European standards.
FIGURES ARE ALL OFF
My understanding is the Japanese government has a hand in putting this merger together. They don't want to lose Nissan and the Japanese jobs.
What dumbass puts the steering wheel on the woman’s side?
A smart dude who realizes his wife needs to drive to the supermarket, so she can cook his dinner.
Pit Row
Not our fault you guys aren’t coordinated enough to shift with your left hand.
The weak yen is not helping NISSAN. Should change their name back to Datsun.
Its for looks. Not like she is gonna use the damn thing.
A smart dude would realize a woman should not be allowed to drive or vote. Sandwich makers is their primary job. 👍🙃
They mounted steering wheel on wrong side.
Doesn't Renault have a stake in Nissan? Wonder how that plays into this.
Correct, Renault is looking to sell it's shares of the company.
Just one opinion but an interesting one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IT9WX3VLkho
Honda uses motorcycle racing to promote all its products and create brand awareness. I see no obstacles to a Nissan pickup sponsored SX/MX team. It might be a good fit, I think Datsun actually may have been a sponsor of SX or some of the races back in the day.
Nissan shit the bed, Honda (and Jap government) see an opportunity.
I recall they sponsored some USGP S at Carlsbad.
In 1992 there was rumors of a hostile takeover of Honda by Mitsubishi, if Mitsubishi joins Nissan and Honda it may still happen.
Post a reply to: Honda/Nissan, could it effect moto?
