I love energy drinks. I love the money they bring to the sport. But I do not love how we do not get to see custom (or even OEM) helmets on so many of the pros these days. I wish that the contracts were written such that they could run something besides the Red Bull a certain number of times a year. I get that the helmet is a status symbol and they wear it with pride, but I miss the old custom helmet days. Now we get Jett in the same helmet all year long.
I like the old custom painted helmets and thought that was as cool as it gets growing up. I shared your sentiment.. but the energy drink helmets have grown on me now tbh - they’re pretty simple and clean
I get what you’re saying but that was a standard paint job offered on the V3 with some stickers added to it.

Maybe not as prevalent these days but they do still exist. These features GuyB did a few years ago are some of my favorites!

Yeah...never see any dingle balls or mohawks on the helmets anymore....that was cool shit...

Doubt that Jett's helmets being unchanged throughout the season is an energy drink contract issue.
Example: Musquin's customized-per-event Red Bull helmets have always been on point:
Tomac to come out with the dingle balls at A1! haha.
I think the most custom helmets you will see anymore are the Redbull and monster helmets. Tim gajser has worn plain Jane fox helmets all year and looks like Shimoda will as well. The days of custom helmets are long gone.
Shimoda lost his Monster deal, that’s why there’s plain helmets.
You guys make some great points. What I was really trying to get at, is that most of the time, an athlete is in the same helmet every weekend. Alpinestars makes some sweet colorways in the SM10, but we really only see the Red Bull one or a black one with a Monster claw. In the image I posted of James, it was the actual Bell helmet, and you put the Red Bull logo on there, which makes swapping out the colorway easier. The Deegan custom one is sweet, and it's rad you can buy it. But It would be cool to see the athletes mix up the helmets more. I think having the Red Bull and Monster branding on there makes that more difficult. So not even really about custom paint, just about mixing it up more and seeing what the companies have to offer. I can't imagine Alpinestars is stoked that their top two guys never run what you can buy...
Monster at least allows for some individuality with its helmets, Deegan's replica is pretty badass.
The Red Bull helmets were okay at first but now to me they are tired and kind of lame.
I'd love to see Shimoda or someone show up at A1 with custom old school Tagger paint, but obviously Fox would have something to say about that.
How about Unbound Energy?
MC wore the same helmet on different teams.
Hopefully we see him with some sick custom lids like Hunter a few years back. We don’t get to see that often from the top guys
To my knowledge, Red Bull athletes can slightly customize their helmets as Marv did but there are strict guidelines and approvals.
Tony Cairoli was a RedBull athlete during his MXGP career, and he had a custom RedBull helmet with the corporate logos only on his chin, I guess he had to take a paycut in order to run that custom livery, but Airoh used to sell a "Cairoli Replica" (Without the RB logos but with Tony design) I guess that there was a royalty deal between Airoh and Tony.
The reason we don't see it in motocross is beacuse riders/ managers don't see the bigger picture and don't ask RedBull or Monster for it, they just see the amount of zeros in the contract, Cool to see Haiden having his own custom helmet that he sells, it can be a profitable business, ask Valentino Rossi, who was able to buy AGV shares with his custom helmets design.
The question is why does Monster let helmet companies sell helmets with their logo (Astars Deegan Edition and past One Industries lids for example) but Redbull doesn't?
Because they use different marketing strategies.
Erm, that's not a moto 5 in that last photo but it has a custom paint job and tld visor. Did you accidentally buy the wrong model?
Pit Row
More importantly, what is that rig in his nose?
Luke Kalaitzians helmet 2024, this helmet only lived two weeks and was broken on lap two of the main at anaheim 2
Yea I was going to say that red bull would allow riders to just have the red bull logo over the mouth piece area and the rest of the helmet could be custom and thats exactly what they did with most of those custom helmets. Looks great.
Some examples of how it looks:
Anyone else still think of this when they see a Red Bull helmet?
