Julian and Alessandro were walking to the starting line, trying their best not to look at each other. They wore child-size racing uniforms and tiny driving gloves. Behind them, mechanics pushed their 160-pound cars with a list of corporate sponsors on the hood. The team’s name was emblazoned on the side: Baby Race.
The two boys were Baby Race’s star drivers, among the favorites to win the World Series of Karting championship that was minutes away. In theory, they could work together to secure a team victory. But Alessandro Truchot and Julian Frasnelli had been fierce competitors since they were 9 and 10. Now they were 11 and 12, respectively, and the rivalry had grown violent, culminating in high-speed crashes that caused a roaring crowd to hold its breath.

Just east of Indy on i70 there’s a high level track. The kids r flying they Really push it smoke coming off the brakes diving into corners. . That’s where our top car racers come from.
Moto is awesome but karting is also a really cool sport. I dont think there's the need to feel glad your kid isn't karting. I would encourage people to take their kids karting and even drive karts yourself. It's really fun.
I have watched a race before and was shocked at both the speeds they were traveling and how vulnerable their chassis appeared. Hell no.
GO KARTS. People have no ideal what top go karting is like. Cash is king and politics run ramped. Brother in law had a small kart shop and had our kids race for about 5 or 6 years. Raced 4-strokes and 2-strokes, non shifting stuff. At one point, with three kids, we had 10 karts and around 65 motors. From karting tried to go dirt racing and then started to build asphalt oval car, which ended with the 2009 crash. Karting is fun, but you must have the right people to make it work. Aren't there spec class karts that are more affordable?
We have had super karts at some of our road race meetings this past season, the things are absolutely wild and the grids are massive. Still prefer 2 wheels though.
Yes, and the top guys by 20 motors, dyno them all and keep the best and sell the rest.
Even the hire race karts, they dyno all the engines to the same power, at a race we were at this year, the guy was there 2 days just levelling up motors.

Most kids and families looking to have fun ran kt100's back in the day and predator's today. That's all pretty cheap. It's only when you get reeeaaally into it does it become silly, like the equivalent of kids chasing loretta's and ponca, but just like moto there's still a big chunk of people out there doing things the fun and inexpensive way.
Yep, Motorsports - of Any kind - can be quite expensive, as you / if you choose to progress upwards through it.
I looked at Karting many years ago, as something within Motorsports that did not require functioning Knees as much as Dirt Bikes do.
Went to a fair amount of events, to have a squizz at it all, and, eventually, helped friends with their racing.
The thing that put me off the most, was the Carnage out on the track, caused by idiots with No sense / No Race Craft / No Skills. Seriously, I reckon I saw more people carted off in Ambos than I ever saw at Bike races. Stupidity ran rampant.
And then, CTIs came out, and kept me on Dirt Bikes, and, back on Bicycles .......... got my first set in around '86, I think.
SBS has had a fair amount of Karting in their weekly Speed Week show - it is, somewhat berserko to watch. Last week the youngsters (World Championships of some class(es), I think?) were flying off the track in the rain.
There a big Kart business in my little suburb, I might just go in when I take the old AU in for it's yearly Rust Repairs to the Body Shop across the road..
I think Super Karts, hold a Lot of Outright Lap Records at a fair few Road Race circuits - those things absolutely haul arse - and yes, they are Big, BIG Bucks !
Yeah it’s popular who hasn’t raced at a amusement park they always hv tracks. Bay beach rt on the bay has super cheap rides .50. A go kart track with mini golf, batting cages r across the street. I think it’s 5 or 7 bucks. I always heard Jeff Gordon was a dominant kart racer. Back when he raced nascar.
Karting at an amusement park is a little more novice than the karts I was referring to. Those ones generally aren’t up to the standards of what someone would desire, those are for the less serious group.
I would try a K1Speed location to give you an idea of what real karting is like. It’s not as high speed as an outdoor course but they have good lateral grip and fairly quick acceleration once you graduate to the faster map. Most places try to keep the karts fairly consistent when it comes to maintenance, tires and handling characteristics.
A few of my old MX freinds went long circuit karting after MX.
Serious money, tyres, engines and travel.
In the UK, they even charge you to park in the pits, its nuts.
I got a kart for my oldest son after he stopped riding. We had a track up by the airport back then that had races several times a year and it seemed like it would be something worth trying. Took him to a vacant warehouse parking lot a few times and it just seemed a bit insane how fast they were. These were huge parking lots and the kart would go 150 yards in the blink of an eye. He never ended up actually racing it and I sold it for more than I paid for it, but I kind of wish he would have tried a couple of races.
