Never seen this before, very cool. Always interesting to see people invent new things to solve a problem and which route they take to get there. Lets be honest the way theyve been doing it for so long was a bit janky. Plus on practice days where you do a thousand starts itd be nice to have this for sx suspension. There was probably a few different ways you could solve this problem and they chose this way. Every invention has tradeoffs like size, complexity, cost…etc. I expect these or something similar to become ubiquitous very soon. Its not every day you see completely new never before seen inventions and even more so in the sport you love, very exciting. Keep the innovation coming!

I wonder how many of those will be on the gate at A1

Not really new. We been using similar couple years here in Finland(vet riders not Pro teams). Just stick with hook at end that goes to front axle and bike mounting strap tied on stick with end hook goes to handlebar. Even my 8 year old kid can pull because leverage. Dont have photo here but home made cost like 2 euros.

Cool tool, god I wish we could get rid of start hooks. At least for amateur racing, it’s so dumb because it’s just $100 you need to spend and then once everyone has one we’re all back to equal.

…or, we could just eliminate start devices.

Put them into mass production. Every vet rider in America will buy one

You don’t need to buy a start hook…

Damn that fork is really compressed. I wonder if we’ll see more start devices latched beyond first turn.

Last time I bought a start hook was 2009 and I think I used it 5 times, never had anyone to set it for me anyway! I wouldn't consider myself a good starter, but I came out of the 1st turn top 3 a few times after taking a decade off of doing starts last year on some 20+ rider gates.

Full disclosure, last race I did had a muddy start and I got annihilated every single drop. Probably more user error though.

Something else for mechanics and dads to carry up to the line with them.  You could be the only sumbitch at the line with one and lending it out every race or be a dick and say no.

I'd probably just do it in the pits, should be able to ride up without it disengaging

Start maps need to be included in the ban. Regular engine maps are fine, start maps are a no go.

I don't disagree but that would be so hard to police.

The teams could send ama the data, or the company's the teams use could send the ama the data. Having the ama people go to every bike before the motos and the break in between them wouldn't be the best strategy. Other than what I mentioned, I don't think it would work. I do know one thing, that is that h=the Lawrences would still get their good starts.

Bring back concrete starting pads. Do you know the best way to get off of those? Talent.

My kid used to walk up and down the gate at OTMX races and set starting devices for us. I told him he should be charging $2 a set since Vet riders have $$$ to blow. Smile

Give me a long enough lever and I can move the world.

I never set mine at hangtown.  Thanks for admitting it's the only reason you beat me to to first turn every moto!!  😜 Jk.  I just suck.

I lost 6/7 motos to Noah one year at washougal while running faster lap times every lap of every moto except the first lap. He had one I didn’t, I bought a start device Monday.

I enjoyed my brief time in front of you at Hangtown 🤣

Here is one foto. Metal hook welded at end of metal pipe to front axle and other one to handlebar. Distance from axle to strap mounting is between 10-15cm if I remember right.

Others have flat pipe and bolt at the end that goes inside front axle hole.

God I love my Pro Taper SELA.

But if they all went away tomorrow I would be 1000% cool with it.

More gap between the top guys, less chance of one guy winning every time due to the fact how good his electronics and bike setup and other stuff is.
