I know 10-99 are earned numbers. And he earned 70 which is of course a legendary # in American motocross because of RC. So he might run 70. But I could definitely see him or Kawi talking to the AMA and Cole Thompson to swap so Prado gets his career number right off the bat.

That can of worms isn't happening....he'll run 70 per the rules...

I don’t have any insider knowledge but I would imagine he’ll run 70 because that’s what he earned and that’s just the way it works. Maybe they will make an exception for him though I have no idea.

You know I've been running the number 70 since the mid nighties, RC runs it for a single year and that's who name always comes up??? WTF

The only exception that’s even feasible is the ama lets him run 111 as he is the reigning World Champion, if that’s even what he wants. Otherwise he has to run 70 which is a cool number too.

As back to back MXGP Champ...he should be granted his career number if it has no significance to the current # holder. But that's just me I guess.

It probably has significance to the guy that earned it.

In F1, Hamilton signs a 100 million dollar per year for the 2025, 26 and 27 season and gets announced officialy by Ferrari and Mercedes before the start of the 2024 season.

In MotoGP, the guy who will probably win the title for Ducati next year will ride an Aprilia on Tuesday, while still being under contract for Ducati until 31st of December, not only that, that test will be BROADCASTED LIVE and will open the sports sección of every TV news or newspaper in Spain, his fellow countryman, who is still under contract for RedBull, Marc Marquez, will ride a Monster Energy supported bike next Tuesday.

Meanwhile at Supercross/Motocross... absolutely speechless about Prado/Kawasaki/KTM/RedBull situation. With things like these it makes you realize why the sport is nowhere near any other Motorsports in terms of popularity, the people who are in the big offices of every brand have so fragile ego and don't know nothing about Marketing.

I will be surprised if Marc Marquez’ bike has a Monster logo on it. That aside, I agree with your comment. No obvious reason we shouldn’t be seeing Prado on his new bike.

Edit: El Hombre beats to a different drum, and the sport is better for it!

I agree with you 100%, but I think the reason rider/team changes are kept hush hush in "our" sport is the brass believes it affects bikes sales.

Exactly. At least the announcers are “allowed” to talk about it on the broadcast now since the SX/MX merge. JT and Malin also spoke about it a couple times during the MXdN broadcast.

This is definitely the reason but it doesn’t mean the media should play along IMO. The more it’s talked about the dumber it will look for the OEM’s to be hush hush. And on the flip side if it’s known that X brand is signing a high profile rider it could help sales.
