It’s all about the start

Webb needs speed but got the start from 24th so our gate tomorrow is decent. We’ll have 9 and 27? Or 29 or 30? (Corrected from what others have said - which isn’t bad since roczen got a good start from last)

We definitely need starts and to stay ahead of the major contenders. Speed is decent for USA. Hopefully we have luck and all of them perform well. Note that some countries qualified higher but they have to take one score from their worst performer.

To me, Webb’s results at his first 250 race in a long, long, long time and racing among the worlds best 250 riders…

Was the best qualifying performance from our guys.

Britain out qualifying Team USA! We could sneak a podium if the stars align tomorrow?😜

Haha. Hell yeah...Oi oi. !!

It's definitely looking to be a podium war tomorrow with France cruising to another win. I mean shit. Their throwaway race today was Febre's 3rd

The only thing that matters is Saint Roger remains the manager.

It's not doom and gloom. It's this odd strategy of riding so safe on Sat that you have almost no chance of winning on Sunday.  Qualifying 9th gives them horrible gate picks on Sunday. The start is half the race.  When your best result is a 6th and your country sends 3 factory guys it's a pretty underwhelming performance.  Especially when guys they have beat and raced with all year are running in front of them.

You don't genuinely believe it's strategy, do you? Perhaps the other riders are better.

I'm kinda glad AP got your best result though.

If Östlund isn't injured after his DNF, Sweden should get through B Final pretty easily.

I’m not sure why people think the three riders we sent would go out and smoke qualifying today. ET bad start to 7th. Pushed right to herlings fender and seemed content with that. Webb great start and faded to right where I’d expect him to finish. Hasn’t raced a 250 in 7 years lol. AP so-so start and was 7th until he got gifted a 6th with a mechanical from Coldenhoff. So they all go out and ride like their hair is on fire to potentially crash out and really screw tomorrow? Yep totally makes sense. They’ll be fine tomorrow and know what they’re doing. Calm down people.

Hopefully the track will be better, this gnarly rutty nasty stuff doesn't suit American riders as much, the mxgp guys are used to shit tracks. We have gotten a bit spoiled I think.

But I am proud of our guys for standing up and trying, and I'll be pulling for them no matter what. Go USA! Cya guys and galls at what, 5am Texas time tomorrow...

Come on AP. HE DOESNT RACE FORWARD. Don’t tell me +2 positions is acceptable when Tomac came from 19th to 7th in a stacked class.

I don’t have hero expectations from Webb. He’s on a bike that he hasn’t raced in 8 years.

100%. 9th doesn't sound great, but there are a bunch of teams ahead of them that won't be a threat tomorrow because they only have two top level riders.

Tomac pushed up to Herlings rear fender, then Jeffrey lit the afterburners, dropped him like a stone and went after Roczen.

Funny thing. He actually wanted to finish the race in a relaxed manner. When he saw Tomac on the back wheel, he didn't let anyone steal the cheese from the bread.

The Americans look solid imo, not spectacular but then there were no disasters with this or that guy dropping the ball either. They're just there around the top 5-7, looking stable but conservative. Not a bad place to be for the time being.

What will tell the story for them (along with the usual dose of lady luck obviously) is how the track develops. If it dries out more and takes on a more AMA-like surface then of course, 1 2 3, the guys will probably find a setup and be right there in the top 3 imo. Tomac especially. Suddenly they're a real threat.

All that said the days of this being some big panic and 'qustions need to be asked' etc is (should be) over. This isn't 2011. Everyone knows at this point that getting a team together somewhat last minute and going to a foreign track is always going to be tough going. At the moment they're in it, observing things and finding their feet, stable with no disasters currently. Again not a bad place to be.

No matter what happens tomorrow, we have 3 guys who love their country and made a bunch of sacrifices to get there.  Whatever result they get is fine with me.  I’m proud of this years team.  They are up against the best the world has to offer.  Realistically they’re probably the 4th or 5th best team.

The drop score is an interesting part of the analysis in qualifying.  Need all 3 of your guys to put up a score on Sunday, and 2 of them to put up 2 scores.  A lot of teams qualified ahead of USA are going to have scores in the teens or worse with one of their riders.  Thats how USA gets a decent result…

USA will get somewhat better gate picks tomorrow 9th & 29th . Should help some.

AP has had mixed results on rutted tracks this year. 6th at Thunder Valley behind Barcia and Sexton. Better 4th at Hi Point. Hope he got the feel of this track today.  Disadvantaged compared to GP guys that see this every year.
I hope he gets redemption from last year. Go USA !

Who do you think will give their mx2 rider first gate pick in the first race. I think most teams will give it to the the mx2 guy in the first race.

Especially Spain!! That's a no brainer. Spain has a legit shot at this. Give the first spot to Olivia

We’re all just watching on tv man. No idea what goes on behind the scenes. It’s possible his settings were off a bit, not comfy, who knows. But if he wasn’t 100% comfy why ride over your head and wad it in a qualifying race?  Take what the circumstances give you and take what you can improve on for tomorrow when it actually counts.

Here’s what 3rd place points ended up being over the past 10 years…

43, 26, 39, 58, 41, 32, 33, 56, 33, 33

There’s some really strong teams this year so I’m guessing the podium scores will lean on the smaller side but I think if all our guys stay consistent we can be around that 30 point mark which gives the US a solid shot at the podium. Excited for tomorrow regardless!
