Great idea. And someone that has been there, done that event.
Names that come to mind: obviously RC, RV has one of the most all time MXoN rides in 07, Dungey, Stew, Ferry, etc...
Pretty sure he’s an American. People do come here and become citizens.
...Vuillemin is probably the most savvy and qualified potential manager, with no apparent brand bias.
but if he was "The Guy", a lot of egos could be heavily damaged in the process...😜
Anyway, it will never happen, mostly because AMA Pro racing has to keep their perfect record of poor decision making - why start doing the right thing now?
i knew some one would comment like this thinking i blasting Decosta or USA for it... But it was a general question.
Has any other team had a foreigner born leading another country's team? AGAIN... a general question, not being a d**k

missing the point of my question... why does every one think its an attack to ask a question.
Not sure what your point is then?
That would be awesome. Vote DV.
It’s not just that he manages a competing team, it’s how disjointed we seem to be year after year. 2018 was a comedy of errors for example between tires used gates left open without even mentioning radios. Matthes has mentioned before how little he had to do with him and Ferry when they went in 2003 as well. We need a team manger that will live and breath this event. Roger is far to accomplished and perhaps old for this to be the case. We need a revamp. I understand that we will still have issues and we will get our asses kicked in the mud no matter what but a team manger and system improvement would do wonders.
I'd love it! https://youtu.be/1zmcJnkPOdQ?si=XtHYXHZuo-k57MDk&t=597
Im simply asking, what other teams at nations has had some one born in another country representing another? yes im aware of citizenship's.
again, im simply asking out of curiosity and nothing against Team USA..
How about Dave Osterman?
As the chief architect of Team USA since that historic day in 1981, Roger would earn a lifetime pass from me to do this as long as he is willing.
There have been plenty of head-scratcher moves and rider choices along the way, rest assured this is the case with every team.
For every case that you can dunk on him picking one of his team's riders, there is an example of him fielding one of his guys because no one else was willing.
Picking your favorite retired racer's name from a hat and thinking "they'd be perfect!" is not an answer, IMO. There is a lot that goes into this.
My bet is it will be Christina Denny who takes over .
Only if Larry Brooks gets to be co-manager (listen to Dave O's Whiskey Throttle episode for context).
I'm thinking we'll see where Roger's ego is by the way he treats Webb during the race.
Why does it matter he’s lived here for over 40 years and has been a US citizen for most of that….
Tony Alessi
We were disjointed in 2018 because of Kawi….it’s hard to communicate the availability of an open gate when you refuse to be on the same radio frequency as the rest of the team…don’t forget that Kawi used that race as a test for the new 2019 bike but yet none of the Kawi GP riders rode the new bike…Roger is not the problem here it’s Bruce Stjernstrom and team Kawi…
BS, he can’t lead the team to make basic decisions like common sense gate selection and can’t lead the teams to work together for a common cause. He’s a manager not a leader.
Pit Row
What about Wil Christien? 😀
Really don't understand the down votes you got.....lots of KTM staff must post on vital!
the perception of "conflict of interest" with roger as MXON TM has been around for years?
NOT too hard to understand IMHO...........
Dean Wilson has raced MXdN for both Canada and Great Britain.
Guys, that unpaid job is maybe one of the worst in the industry. If the team wins, riders did amazing. If the team sucks, the team manager sucks and should've picked better guys. Just like coaches or trainers (other than Aldon)... The rider wins, everyone says "it's the rider on the bike". The rider loses, "his coach and his program suck". I think there's a lot of stuff going on behind the scene for a MXDN team that we don't know, rider availability, their will to go, teams not supporting the race, riders having to nurse injuries before the SX season and last but not least, money. Way more headaches than rewards because for a big nation like ours (yes, ours, Merica!), if "we" don't win, we automatically got our a**es whooped...
Honda was more than willing to go. Now it turns out Yamaha has no issues going. The real question is why won’t Kawasaki? They seem to be the only ones with a problem, which generally means they’re the problem.
I’m good with Roger as long as he VOLUNTEERS to be captain.
If Roger Decoster truly cares about team USA, he would recognize the conflict of interest his position creates, and would step aside for the best interest of the team.
Set aside your emotions or nostalgia and know when it’s time to let go.
I think the tribes have spoken....
If the regular mismanagement of the selection process is anything to go by either DeCoster is incompetent or he can't be arsed doing anything. Seems like it might be an ego deal at this point.
One of his sons was wounded by an IED while in the US Army and the other served in the State Department. He's managed more champions than probably anyone ever.
He'll be my choice til HE says had enough. That's all I have to say about that.
AMA have tried other MXoN managers since Decoster first did the job, Bevo Forte in 1994 and Paul Lindsey in 1999. They didn't win on both occasions.
While ex pros like Trey Canard might be a good pick from a rider/fan perspective, AMA would want someone who is experienced in handling team budgets and have existing relationships with domestic team managers. While their might be a conflict in Roger being one of those domestic managers, he ticks the boxes in all other respects in my view and would be tough to replace.
Regardless of his relationship with other teams, 1 win in 10 for Team USA is nowhere near good enough. I know there’s not a lot the team manager can do on race day, but I think normally those results should prompt a change of some kind
Sexton said it best. It’s a LOT of egos.
It won’t matter who you put on that seat when ypu have teams and riders that try to strong-hold their way to the race.
Little Deegan demanding that he would only go last year if Sexton did it and if Tomac did it this year.
Star saying that they would only support it if they get to send two riders.
Kawasakis history from 2018
Mitch being sour that he not got a larger part at the Des Nations crew. Etc.
you guys have a way bigger problem with the general attitude towards the race now days from teams and riders than your manager.
Sure, the manager need to be able to gather all the teams and riders, but at this point he should just say: Cut the crap guy’s, do YOU as a rider want to go and do you have the backing from the team?.
As soon as a rider say: ”yes but only if”
The response from Roger and the guys should be: your out.
Post a reply to: Roger DeCoster needs to go
