Traditionally points per moto 25 x 2 =50 points for first
SMX round 1: 2 motos- 25 points = 50% points payout
SMX round 2: 2 motos- 50 points = 100% points payout ( normal scoring)
SMX round 3: 2 motos- 75 points = 150% points payout ( only 50% increase over traditional MX points payout)
Thought this was an interesting way to look at it vs single, double and triple points.
You took the long way around to tell people that they only pay points for overall positions, not per moto.
I'll have to revisit the rules, but does anyone know if they use "normal," olympic scoring for the overalls? Or do they use the AMA points-per-moto method, where a 1-3 beats a 2-2?
It's olympic scoring as I recall...
Yep they said that during the Charlotte broadcast.
It is Done the same way my AMA district races have always done it for advancement points by overalls.

Could you imagine RC trying to explain that ^^ point system to the audience...LMAO
"Lets say you have 1 wheelbarrow at the first round, and you have to push half at a time.....
"Second round instead of 1 wheelbarrow, you have 2, but this time you push a full wheelbarrow each time....
Single points, double points, triple points is much easier.
RC and his “wheelbarrels”
it’s endearing lol
So in Pro MX a 1-3 wins the overall, beating a 2-2, but in SMX, the 2-2 wins. Interesting.
You can tell which promoter is driving the bus.
Olympic wheelbarrow scoring.
🤣😂🤣
I'm still hoping somebody can explain why it's called "Olympic scoring". I am not aware of any Olympic events that use that scoring method.
Yes....because in MX its pts per moto. 1-3 or 3-1 score 25+20=45 pts. 2-2 scores is 22+22=44...3rd place.
"District Scoring" 2-2 beats a 1-3 because of the tiebreaker Moto-2.
If it's Olympic scoring, I think that 1-3 wins because they had a moto win, not because of points. I may have it wrong, but I think that these finishes would rank this way:
1. 3-1 (4 'points, a moto win AND a better second moto)
2. 1-3 (4 'points', a moto win vs no moto win)
3. 2-2 (4 'points' toward the Olympic score, but no moto win)
At least I THINK it would work like that.
EDIT: It looks like I was wrong about winning a moto, and a 2-2 beats a 1-3.
BMX Racing and I think sailing as well both use a “lowest score wins” points system.
Yes! Somebody finally found an answer for me.
Though it looks like not totally the same as MX. It looks like in Olympic sailing, they have 10 preliminary rounds. You get 1 point for first, etc. and the worst score is thrown out. Then in the medal round you get 2 points for first, 4 points for second, etc. and that score is added to your preliminary round score for your overall medal placement. So, for whatever reason, a first place in the medal round is worth the same as a second place in a preliminary round.

and it should win a 2 2 should beat a 1 3 in my opinion
Post a reply to: SMX Points NOT actually double, triple…
