Bobby benched him. And he’s not fired, he just got benched that round. Anderson got benched and he turned out just fine.

Seems like a very petty move and not sure what purpose it serves but definitely on brand for star.

Why's it petty? Happens in stick and ball sports all the time.

In stick and ball sports you have a finite amount of players that can see the field at any one time to help your team win. Not so much in moto. If you think someone is underperforming, wouldn’t you want to give them more experience and time to improve?

Was said on Pulp show that he wasn’t allowed to race unless he qualified top 10.

Yikes 😬

What would be more motivating for you, your employer letting you motor around outside of points paying positions, or your employer letting you know that actions (or lack thereof) have consequences and parking your ass on the bench for a race?

You've spent the money to get him and his mechanic and bike there already. Benching him doesn't give some bench warmer a chance to prove themselves like stick and ball. Do they really think he isn't trying in qualifying? Making this threat going to make him give it that extra effort? No value in letting him continue to get experience racing. It's just meat head thinking that has zero chance at achieving the desired goal unless your goal is to get him to quit the two year contract you signed him to. Again, par for the course for star.

The stick and ball analogy of a bench warmer getting an opportunity to ride makes sense to me.

Practically speaking, If he usually qualifies (but not in the top 10) it opens up a spot on the gate for someone else to fill it.

I got brought up due to another guy getting benched.

I was just trying to ride out my final few months of my senior year skipping class for JV tournaments!

My scores were never used 😂

“On brand for star”? If by this you mean turning kids into winners then I agree… sometimes a bit of tough love is necessary. Can’t argue with star Yamahas record.

I wonder what Star's record is when it comes to converting first time winners? I feel like if Star didn't have Deegan, this year would've looked rough for them in the 250 class. What's Bennick been doing? Romano? Mosiman? Robertson? Thrasher? Lopes? Smith was practically invisible all summer, too... That's a lot of dudes.

Exactly. Vastly superior bIkes for years and that's no longer the case. If it weren't for Deegan it would be full on panic mode and consistently getting beat by club Yamaha guys. You get away with doing business like an asshole when you've got a bike people are desperate to get on and deep pockets, but we'll see how that works going forward now that bikes are caught up and they want us to believe they can't send guys to mxon because of the budget.

Yeah you’re right about this year, I was speaking in a broader sense.

Bennick has straight up finished without points at multiple motos this year. They are at a point where something like benching him is not that drastic to be honest.

Perhaps the meat grinder style at star is not for him, he's better than that.

That is pretty heavy-handed if it is strictly a performance issue, I wonder if there was some attitude adjustment intended as well.

Do we even know why he hasn't been riding as well as some expect? Maybe he's just not a consistent top 10 rider yet

Not knowing fuck all, I tend to agree. If he’s trying like hell you’d think he lines up.
Smells like attitude adjustment or they want him to quit

Can anybody recall a MX rider getting literally benched from a factory team for poor performance?  I can't, honest question.
