ap7 deserves to go and would be willing to put it on the line for his country.

So would Tomac, but does AP get the best results and come in clutch when he needs to? This could be Tomacs last nations, and getting 4th after two years off of mx racing isn’t bad at all.

You guys are acting like MXDN is tomorrow and not a month away

I think thats a huge detail. I would probably give the nod to Tomac with another months worth of riding under his belt

I hope everyone starts thinking that Eli did really good first moto, and will only get better. The lap time thing was deep in the pack vs up front, so naturally the pace is going to be faster up front vs being buried in the pack clawing your way past people.

I imagine it will be tomac. Sexton probably has a say in it too and would rather have tomac. Same for Deegan.

Tomac makes no sense unless people are twisting the question into something else in their mind, like "who do you like more?", but that's not the question at all. Tomac has been back for one race and went 4-11. AP has only been outside of the top five 3 times out of 20 motos, and those three motos were in the first half of the season. He's riding the best he's ever been right now. The order in 450 is easy, you'd ask Chase first and AP second, then it gets a little harder between Cooper and Anderson.

Still too early to say which way to go.  Maybe Eli will get back to himself after another race or two,  maybe not?  Right now, I'm leaning towards AP but it's cool that the decision is being pushed back a bit.  Having trouble recalling, do we know at which SMX round the team will be announced?

Will it make more sense in a month? As someone else said, Johnny Ringo I believe, nations isn’t tomorrow, it’s in a month or so. Anderson will never go as long as he’s on a kawi. Does AP have the come in clutch factor and preform when you need to? I don’t think he does. Also, 4th is pretty damn impressive after 2 years of not racing motocross.

No insult meant towards Craig but don't you think comparing Eli to Christian in this situation is a bit much?

It might make more sense in a month, but right now, there's no question. It's not even close. Nobody would take ET's 4-11 following an injury over AP's season, unless they were doing so for fan reasons. There's no factual information to support it. It's not like that 11th place is a clutch performance. Elito Mac sometimes shows up too.

AP and Tomac have the same number of 450 overall wins the last two years. Only difference is AP has raced every round and Eli hasn’t.

Send the shark. Enough of the “he deserves it” shit. To quote William Munny: “deserve ain’t got nothin’ to do with it”.

AP has been absolute garbage at MXON and definitely does not thrive under pressure....

Tomac got badish starts both motos at budds creek and that place is a goat trail. the more he races the better he will get. AP has reached his ceiling.

Frankly, I would send jcoop over ap that's how garbage that cowboy wannabe is at mxon.

Well if nobody is allowed to not be who they were in the past, then doesn't ET have a choke moto at Des Nations?

Tomac is usually up front. if he crashes or something maybe he can recover a better position....

Tomac has also been blazing fast at every mxon besides 2018 - still did better than ap that year.

if ap has a choke moment he's going to get 20th.

He's at the end of his career coming off an injury after not racing outdoors for two years. It makes no sense to choose him over AP at this time. I'm not sure when they have to lock in a choice, but let's see if he makes big gains next weekend.

I’m huge fan of BOTH riders.

The smart data supports picking AP. Furthermore, to a man, he’s earned it.

I’m hoping to get a coupl’a more years outta Eli. So, I’ll be happy just to have him rail the finals, make some WSX $ (already committed)…and go into 2025 healthy and in Full Beast-Mode.

A 4th is great, but it was still a distant 4th. He finished 51 seconds back.

He went 4-11 for 7th overall. In the second moto he finished 1 minute and 42 seconds back. And yes, I understand he's coming back from injury.

If he's the rider for the Open class at MXdN, he'll have less time to recover between the races than if he were to be the MXGP class rider.  Can he close that fitness gap in a month, maybe. He's been on the bike for several weeks, but training and racing are two different things.

We'll see after Ironman and SMX, but at the moment AP looks to be in better shape.

He ate shit battling Ken for the lead in 2013 but other than that he has never been as bad as AP at  MXdN.

I like Plessinger and he's a great rider but can anyone honestly say they'd feel more confident with him on the team over Tomac ?  Think about it .  Tomac was just coming back feeling things out yesterday .

Yeah that’s true. It’s just that we will most likely have to drop one or so of his motos because he isn’t usually known to have the best results. That will just mean haiden or whoever is mx2 and chase will have to do their absolute best. Also i’d rather have a healthy haiden than hymas who has his acl thing, and his ankle. Too bad kawi doesn’t support it because we could have levi on team usa if haiden or chance don’t/xant go.

Obviously Roger and the AMA would rather pick Eli if they are waiting this long. And AP rides for Roger, think about that. If AP was such a “lock” the team would have been picked weeks ago.

His worst performance was when Kawi thought it’d be a good idea to use the race to test the 2019 bike.

They are waiting for ironman also, don’t forget that. The team will be announced after ironman.

I was there and frankly he didn’t look like the Tomac we all know at all…

That said, quite frankly, he hasn’t looked like the Tomac we know a single time since the Achilles tear.

But, if he can show he’s still got it, he’s the man for the job.
