Best Aftermarket Clutch for 2-Stroke

I have a 1997 RM125 I'm rebuilding and the clutch is smoked. I usually just go with stock fibers and plates, but the fibers are too expensive for me to justify going with stock ones. What aftermarket companies have good clutch products out there?

If you want a stock like product see if Pro-X makes a kit for your bike. If you want something that could possibly be more durable try Hinson, Barnett, EBC, etc.

The Pro-X baskets are nice. Stay away from the chicom springs.

Buy a quality, brand name clutch.  I had a 97 RM125 the previous owner put in a cheap clutch, springs were too long, plates too thick.

That’s what I’m concerned about. Plates being a little different and not working very well.

Stock is a no brainer.  But as noted, Hinson, Barnett, EBC will be good.  I believe the cheap brands try to make a "one size fits most" with alot of models so its a gamble.

Those are great bikes, I loved mine.  Had a 96 and this was my 97.  If I didnt bleed green Id have 96-98 RMs.

Have had good luck with Hinson, DP, and ProX clutches/parts. Stock Suzuki pricing basically makes you look elsewhere for certain consumables like these!

Ya fibers are $22 each for stock ones……stupid expensive

I’ve had incredible luck with DP clutches, great for the money. I’m using a Pro-X currently with a good amount of hours and no complaints, just not a fan of the aluminum clutch plates instead of steel.

Plates and disc

75hours ktm 125

Well within height spec still.

Did you feel an actual difference in the overall drive/traction? I’ve thought about throwing one of those stacks in my 125

Isn't that just 25% more torque capacity of the clutch? I know in the automotive side they like to rate clutches to the amount of torque they can handle.

Yes, that's the clutch's torque capacity, with the OP's RM125 the clutch's torque capacity might only be reached when the rear wheel suddenly accelerates or decelerates the motor landing off a jump. The clutch slipping at this time can be a good thing, reducing loads on the piston and crank.

IIRC KTM had a clutch spring recall on some 125s because the gearboxes were shredding, apparently they were just spec’ing a softer spring to take the load off the gearbox.

It doesn't make any difference, if the inner hub is not worn, there is nothing for them to catch on.

Yes, most people do it that way as a matter of practice.  This is a debatable topic, but IMO it makes a difference in the engagement of the clutch.  I have never owned a bike where the manual calls out which way to install them.

@Last2Stroke is proven to have some very inaccurate info, and is not understanding what you're actually asking.

IMO I’d think you want the rolled edge in the same direction as the clutch engagement for a smoother pull.
