This has been on my mind since the first race at Pala, and I hear others asking about it.
I can't help but notice that Brian Deegan is behind the gate with Haiden and his mechanic before every moto.
I also notice that Pro Circuit has more mechanics than riders with them prepping behind the gate before the motos, and the AMAPro officials supervising behind the gate see them and say nothing.
AMA Pro Racing rules state that the only person allowed behind the gate for the main motos is the racer's signal pass mechanic.
Meanwhile, I get yelled at and threatened with ejection for handing my rider a set of goggles, even though I have a visible mechanic's pass and my rider is on the gate with his race mechanic.
I know this is nit picky, but why are the rules seemingly enforced selectively? Anyone from AMA Pro racing feel free to answer...
I don't think this is being nit picky. If it's a rule it should be enforced for all riders, plain and simple.
You would think with 8 of the AMA guys walking around the start they would enforce the rules.
Nevermind the 16 staff members that crowd around a rider as soon as he gets off the track and into the podium tents behind the podium. Do guys really need that many people to tend to them post race? I imagine a mechanic can hold your bike and hand you a cold water.
Just look for the television camera man at the starting gate, there you will find Starling’s dad. He may can help.

I noticed this during the Millville broadcast; I like Deegan and his dad, but I too was like why is he the only father on the gate. I get it, my kid races 50s and I can't imagine not being on gate with him, but it must be a rule because no other dads on gate. I don't even know what Kitchen's mom or dad even look like, I would say idk what 99% of the other parents look like, I assume they too are at the track. Only thing I could figure was maybe you're allowed a mechanic and team manager and Brian takes the team managers place?
They do to the privateers🤷♂️
MX Sports should hire Vince Friese to police the gate, he's pretty effective removing superfluous family members
It was the same in the ''70's and its still the same. They ain't gonna hold the gate for that local dude that squeaked it in with a 39th quali cause he has the track memorized.
It used to piss me off when i was young. Nowadays I've realized a reality...that "special" treatment is really just an incentive. If you want that "consideration" then win. Winners get it...so you know what you have to do.
They don’t want to deal with the bed bugs
Brian Deegan should definitely not be behind the gate.
Just like you need a collared shirt to be behind the gate. I know someone that got denied and couldn't go. Meanwhile brians attire.
Why was Masterpools dad on the track in the first corner at Millville during the crash with Ty ? They have a team appointed helper there.
Rules for the factory teams and rules for the privateers is what it all boils down to.
Post race tent area should be mechanic and 2 helpers at most. 2 helpers in case the mechanic didn't get to the tent with the rider.
Good point about the collared team shirt rule.
If I was dressed like Brian and tried to get into the secured gate area, I would be tossed for sure even with my credential - in fact, that happed to us in 2021 when Elzinga raced here.
We all know this is a small sport and the officials are going to be more lenient with factory team people, because they have to deal with them every week.
I just wish that they would pretend once in a while to apply their rule book evenly. This is kind of like letting a star NFL player’s dad sit on the bench during a game, it makes moto look a little amateurish…
i dont get why people here are still surprised when ama chooses who or when they apply their rules......
The same reason HRC (as memory serves) was allowed to “put the part that fell off” back on when their bike was underweight. Same reason RC’s gas penalty disappeared.
The AMA isn’t about to touch one of the “chosen ones” while simultaneously shitting all over everyone else.
The AMA is an absolutely useless organization unless you want your right to ride a Harley with loud pipes and no helmet protected.
And I own a Harley and still think they’re useless.
Soo funny this year hangtown I was tossed during a practice when I arrived early for b practice. I made sure of it that I pulled the golf cart out of everyone’s way since I wouldn’t be pulling out the same time. Also didn’t pull where all the other guys did since I’m disabled and can’t move the quick on my feet like they do. I know my place and the reason I was up there early is the same reason, I’m not quick on my feet and can’t get in and out quick. So went in when things settled. Parked way away. And I was told to leave and come back in 4 minutes and try again then. I do believe this is the same guy parking us in the pro pits where I had ruts that were 2 feet deep three feet wide approx. I waited ALL DAY for the bob cat to come over and flatten it for me as they told me it would 930am or so. My girlfriend had to borrow a shovel and half ass knock it down so I could get in and out of the rv and set up the ez up etc. These guys run a loose program.
But do not get me wrong. DC can not oversee everyone. I think DC does an amazing job at what he does and I have zero complaints against him. There is also a lady in MXS that does such a great job and goes above and beyond anytime i contact her.
I’m a nobody so for the level of respect Dv and most of his crew show me I feel bad when anyone talks down on them. There is always a bad egg!!!
AMA is a joke for not enforcing rules. This is a professional sport that has a rule book that may as well be written in dry erase pen.
Pit Row
Wouldn't that require being the team manager not some ex-FMX douche?
The whole situation is a form of corruption but is logical. The sport at the professional level is only kept going because the factories choose to participate as part of their marketing budget. To avoid being accused of blatant bias the AMA could just make it that larger teams are allowed proportionally more people behind the gate and post race.
Was wondering when you’d show up. Like a moth to a flame…
You're not wrong there. Any opportunity to take a shot at Brian Deegan, Twitch, Anal Hodges and anyone else from FMX, I'll take it. They do nothing for the sport and are a large part of why the general public still don't see MX/SX as serious sports. The other guilty party is Feld who insists on presenting SX as a 'daredevil's circus'.
Can someone tell Brian he's not 13-years-old anymore.
It’s funny that people can’t stand the way Gypsy talk but are fine with Brian that sound even worse.
It's because a lot of Americans can't understand or tolerate different forms of English - even though English is native to the English. The clue's in the name of the language. Brian Deegan sounds like a moron on helium.
as a father of a factory racer , Brian Deegan is just like any other, and should have the same treatment and credit as all others get.....
even if, by having a camera on all the time, i could see that Haiden as had riding coaches, mechanics, and other staff to make him grow as a racer, never knew that Brian did much more than pay the bills....
you can see that he is living the dream......through his son's hart and grit, that he never had.......
and that is just another reason why its hard for me to watch Brian Deegan playing the racing star persona, specially him, that ran way from it when the going got tough, and stood against it !!!!!!
You guys are gnarly
Didn't he burn ama tech and the factory teams by running over sized pistons in the 125 class? Now he is an insider. Hah!
pokes DC
Also, why does Brian wear a headset and get to ride the star tracks whenever he feels like it? Is he on the payroll?
