What do you think, is it still possible for this guy to qualify? I think it's possible given his speed and experience. Key will be getting out early in B.
I hate to be the one but you are late to the party.....

An old thread about Mike Brown with a couple mentions of Tony is not good enough. Tony Larusso deserves his own thread.
Hope he gets in there. Dowd is currently the oldest to qualify when he was 46 or 47 years old.
Is there a maximum age rule for the nationals ? I'm too lazy to look it up . I would think at that level there may be .
Hey bud, you are Colton right? Gave Caleb a hard time at area 51 in 2019...hahaha awesome track and venue which deserves a National.

My understanding is while there is no age rule, you can't just get off the couch and re-apply for your AMA pro-license. If you have seen Tony ride, he still rips has been active. I imagine he had to get approved. I hope he makes it in!
Not Colton. Just a guido from New Jersey.
Good luck tony lorusso multi time nesc champion
I'll bet he gets in!
Thanks , I was just curious. I remember seeing his name in the results in the 90s . I'll be rooting for him .
For sure! I just meant he's stayed active riding and racing and is still in vet moto shape. It will be cool either way. I'm sure Brownie will do it later this year but I'm pumped to see Tony give it a whirl. I know he injured his wrist in March pretty good so he's probably not as prepared as he'd like to be.
It seems like you had to get a letter from a physician if you were over 50 stating you were fit enough. Not sure if that's still the case.
I first saw Tony in 1981 competing in NEMA events, the New England youth series. That was 43 years ago. Just try to put this into perspective. I think he was on a YZ50. This means that he has probably competed in maybe 500 to 1000 events at Southwick alone. How about laps done? This guy has probably done close to a million friggin' laps at MX-338. NO DOUBT about it, this the most amazing statistic MX has ever seen. If the qualifying is done this year as it has in the past, he will cakewalk his way to the motos. If 250B group is first, he could have a highway awaiting him, which could allow him to be top qualifier. Either way, this is just plain unbelivable.
If he's 52 then he would have been 9 in '81. Must have been a big kid - are you sure it was a YZ250 in '81?
He was a small kid so definitely not a 250 lol
Look what Jimmy D the Rippa did last year!
YZ-50 Bro
The post says YZ50, the one they built before the 60, and yes he was just a little kid then, so was I.
Agree! If he gets out early in B practice he should make it no problem.
Pit Row
Good grief... that's what happens when you keep swapping reading glasses between looking at the screen and the desk!
This getting old sucks!
Unfortunately, I wasn't a little kid then - probably why I misread it!
This is so rad that he's even trying, it'll be awesome if he makes it in. I started racing minis in the 90s and watched him battling for wins in NESC with a bunch of other gnarly riders of that era. Seems like so long ago...
That would violate an athlete's constitutional rights.
Besides, I haven't qualified for a national yet. I might not have time to train until I'm 70
.
Race officials have certain discretion. In this case, I believe Rick Johnson (Keith’s father and one of the owners of Southwick) voiced for Tony and an exception was made. But that’s only because it was Tony LoRusso, the legend. He has been riding all winter and spring, and still hauls the mail. His last attempt was pretty good in 2014 or whenever it was and with a 17th overall.
Crazy if half the class in a national are 40+. Yet alone 50+. Pipe dream in 1980.
I don’t care if it takes the LCQ…
If he makes it…that’s simply amazing.
Get Some!
#778 on a YZ250F.
I say he makes it in. Tony my name also I always rooted for him. I saw his name in the cycle news a lot yrs ago . For racing a rm125 & 250 in New England & Florida when it was a big deal. I saw a vid of when Dowd & his son raced Millville yrs ago. Tony was racing too & was in it. He looked pretty muscular & in great shape. Bodies like that hold up ovr time. I,m 58 in Nov compare myself to 52 ah I look very similar. But I,m 2 1/2 in shorter from 2020 driving a 1099 Chicago Russian mob trk 140 hr weeks mostly in the NE. Hip has arthritis basically all my joints r trashed, back is garbage & all disk in neck r blown. I,m worried about his wrist , depending on how bad it is. I broke 2 bones in my wrist 8-6-23 on 287 loop of NYC. I kept working then quit 8-28. My wrist is still real bad it’s throbbing & my fingers r numb. I did ride with the wrist 4 times it didn’t bother me . And I was flying no 250f kids could run me down. The shirtless pic on here is 5 weeks after riding.pissed because the plating co took an extra 3 weeks to get my cylinder done. I was going to hit 2 big races in Pa. Then I had a few back & neck injections. I fought to get my wrist injected last yr & this yr. Tape up the wrist good . Tony owes a track in New Hampshire. I lived there in 88 & the last few yrs I,ve been there trucking . Gnarliest rds in America 40+ % narrow with tight 10mph curves. Tony used to race a RM125 at the nationals.
Bring your bike up to nhmx you'll love it tony runs a great track
Expert class in the 90s for NESC was stacked. Tony, Pat Barton, Scott Carter, Dowd, Treadwell. It was so long ago. Getting old sucks
My main reason to watch the Southwick round. Get some Tony.
