B10’s a solid dude and a buddy of mine. Shit, he’s a buddy to all you guys too. Hopin surgery goes well today. Theres quite a few of us here in Texas ready to help out anyway we can when he gets home. LFG B10!!!

All those years doing freestyle and X Games and to have this happen at a race shows how brutal the sport is. Good luck with your surgery today Matt!

Agreed. I got the text around 4pm yesterday and first thought was freestyle crash. 
He has a huge surgery today, please keep him in your thoughts.

Step up was always my favorite event at X-Games. I remember watching some young dude with “Buy-10” on his shrouds going against Tommy Clowers. I wasn’t a tomcat fan at the time so I was pumped when Buyten won. The next year, that same dude is going against McGrath. I wasn’t an MC fan so I was yelling at the TV for Buyten and again he won. I was an instant fan… Years later I get a Snapchat from my buddy Jacob saying his new neighbor is a 7x X-Games gold medalist. I asked who, and he sends me another snap of a Honda with #195 on it, I was stoked. Ended up meeting Matt at the track a week later, and been friends ever since. When you hear people say Matt is a good dude that would give you the shirt off his back, they mean it. He’s a genuine good guy that just loves riding dirtbikes and being awesome. I absolutely hate this happened to him, and can’t really believe it, but I know Matt can get through it if we all rally around him and remind him no matter what he’s still the most awesome guy we know. 

God damn. Just got word his spinal cord was cut in half and will not walk again. Fuckin gutted. 

Matt’s wife posted he just went back for surgery. Unfortunately she said that his spinal cord was cut in half. Absolutely gutted for him.

This really really bums me out.  He’s got a young son and seemed to have many riding days ahead together. This sport we all love can suck absolute balls some times.

Unreal. This sport sucks sometimes. Matt is a legend. I still remember vividly pacing around my living room watching his showdown with MC at step up in Summer X when he kept having to put his shoulder back in. Core memory of mine. Hope he can maintain some semblance of happiness. 

Brutal, does anyone know what happened? One of his posts mentioned making a mistake on the uphill. I've ridden Thunder Valley before it's awesome, but I've always thought things could go very wrong in some spots.

I was wondering the same thing. Track is quite a bit different this year after the national. There’s a big uphill triple coming out of the bottom by the parking lot now.

Man this is really tragic. Incredibly bummed for he and his family. Crazy how a fun day of racing could be end up being the last time you walk or even breathe. All these horrific injuries and deaths locally here In Socal have been super depressing to hear about and now this happens to a guy who's been in the industry a long time. Really gives me a strange feeling about enjoying riding moving forward
